  1. The interesting automation question would be to have the automation system react to the air temperature and opportunistically turn on the heat pump when it would be most efficient. Perhaps overshoot the target temp to move the heat energy into the water.

    To take that even further, an Internet connected automation system that has access to the weather forecast could be even smarter and wait for forthcoming expected warm temperature.
