I think something is missing?

New house to me, the house was made in 1973, so the pool can’t be older than that. I bought a new skimmer, but it just sits on top of these two holes, and doesn’t seal. I looked at a few youtube videos and it seems there should be more housing that the skimmer valvue float thing sits on top of, almost like some sort of cover plate is missing. Is that replaceable, and if so what’s it called, or does the whole housing need to be replaced?

We’d be glad to assist you. When you say a new skimmer, are you referring to a skimmer basket or a complete skimmer? Is there a part number on the item you bought?

I bought a new basket, and and float thing.

Float thing: 8650-39

That’s the part that doesn’t actually block the water from coming in the top, it just rushes around the sides.

the old one did the same thing, water just rushed in from around the outside of it

An o-ring should have been included with the Float Valve Assembly (8650-39). Did an o-ring come with the assembly?

I’m actually having the same problem in finding the right one i recently purchased a float valve but the o ring did not fit correlty and the valve seemed not be the right one for it. Same as the picture above.

My pool skimmer is exactly like the picture above.

Hello Luizamu - We’d be glad to assist you. Is there a part number on the underside of your skimmer lid or on the rim of your basket?

Did you ever find a solution for this?  I have the exact same skimmer with the same problem.

Hi Robert83,

You should be able to find a part # embossed into your skimmer lid, skimmer weir door or skimmer basket. Could you please take a look and supply us with that information. To provide the information simply click the reply link below and then we will be able to make the appropriate recommendation.

Has anyone been able to identify brand and model of his skimmer? I too have exactly the same here in Australia but pool shops here cannot identify it. Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

The skimmer from the beginning of the thread was a Sta-Rite / SwimQuip U-3 skimmer.
