Every time I attempt to replace our spider gasket it kinks and bunches up in the designated slots. Could I be using the wrong size or just need a stronger dose of patience?Reply

Terry - Try using NON-acetone finger nail polish remover to remove the gasket residue. Pentair rep says it works like a charm. Just make sure it is NON-acetone remover or it will melt the plastic.Reply

sand in pool - If the filter's standpipe is cracked, sand will be coming through that crack into your pool and the pipe assembly will have to be replaced. To do this you will have to remove your filter's sand and I would also replace the sand at this point. I would wait on replacing the spider gasket until you see if replacing the standpipe solves your problem.Reply

john - According to the Pentair tech rep, you pull or scrape the spider gasket out of the bottom plate grooves and then use NON-acetone finger nail polish remover to remove the residue. Be careful not to score the plastic in the groove and make sure the remover is non-acetone or it will dissolve the plastic. To glue the new gasket in, use Adhesive For Valve Seat Gasket.Reply

I have Pentair HighFlow MPV, and the diverter seal (gasket) is glued in tight, unlike the Hayward one in your video. Have you tried to remove the gasket from Pentair HighFlow MPV or talked to a Pentair rep about removing it? What's is the best way?Reply

Terry - Unfortunately, it sounds like someone glued the spider gasket in with the wrong glue. If you can't get the gasket completely out without gouging the plastic and assuming this is a Pentair High Flow MPV, you may have to buy a new Bottom Plate, 2" W/gasket, like the one shown in this link.Reply

I cannot get the old gasket off my Hi-flow valve. It looks like it was put on with silicone perhaps.I believe it is called a seal diverter or a spider gasket? I am scraping it and brushing it with a wire brush and I am getting very few results. Any suggestions?Reply

henleytoo - Colors change. The gasket may not be white any longer. Here is a link to many of our Spider Gaskets. See if you can find a match by number of spokes, manf, and dimensions. I would have guessed your gasket is 4710-10X - 2nd row - 5 over.Reply

spider valve - I've heard this also but I'm sure you are not the only person to turn it the valve both ways. To be safe I would turn the valve clockwise from now on. The more important tips are to make sure the pump is off when you move the handle and to make sure the handle is depressed all the way down before you rotate it. There are no requirements for regularly maintaining the MPV. It may just be stiff from none use.Reply

I did not realize until just recently that I was only supposed to move the multiport valve filter in a clockwise direction!! Have I done long-term harm to the valve? (The pool is almost a year old.) That was never mentioned to me by the builder, so maybe it is common knowledge to everybody but me!!Also, I noticed that the multiport valve seems a little harder to move this year than it did when I closed the pool. I had a tarp over it all winter but it does remain uncovered the rest of the year. Is there any regular maintenance (lubrication of some type, etc.) required to keep the multiport valves working properly?

DJ - I'm not sure I understand your question. The water must be turned off. The Multiport Valve is taken apart and the cover assembly removed to replace the spider gasket.Reply

Koicarer - Unfortunately we do not carry Aquadyne parts and I would not use a gasket that looks like what you need. Generally they are not interchangeable. Try looking on the internet. I see that Aquadyne filters are listed there.Reply

My system is about about 15-20 years old. I have identified the logo as Praher with an information tag that reads 310-3. Does the "3" designate the vavle as a 3" valve if not what identifies this dimension. Is it the ports/plumbing size. The spider gasket needs replacing (leaking from the backwash pipe)during filtration.Reply

Hi, The handle on top of my onga filter will not turn. It has been left standing for quite awhile. Have been advised to take off nuts at the top to soak unit but even after the nuts have been removed I cannot take it off.. Perhaps it needs gentle leverage? ?Any suggestions gratefully received.Reply

One key point the video does not mention, or at least I didn't catch it, is this: The gasket has a flat smooth overall surface on one side, and then a raised half-round rib along each spider leg on the other side. The side with the raised rib needs to be placed into the valve facing upward. These ribs are what helps separate water in the diverter vavle flow. This is correctly shown in the video, though not mentioned. This tip is not mentioned in my Hayward literature nor has it ever benn made clear on replacement gaskets I've bought, but perhaps the most important tip in installing these right! Hope this helps!Reply

Help - Your backwash water looks clearer than the pool water because you aren't seeing the same volume. It has to be the same water. Is all of your pool water going through the filter every day? You might have to leave the pump on longer each day. Also you might need a larger filter.Reply

I have been fighting green water for over a month.I have tried every chemical known and have also replaced the sand.
Now I actually think it is a pump problem.
When I backwashed this morning NOTHING came but clear water?
Why would that be???

gid - Backwashing has nothing to do with your pump failing. It sounds like you have an electrical problem. Make sure your circuit breaker is set on. Then check that your wiring connections to the pump are tight. If you have a timer, check the pump connections there. Sometimes the timer fails. Check that you have power at the timer output terminals when the timer is on. If your pump is humming without turning on, try replacing the motor's capacitor.Reply
