How to Replace an Aqua Rite Flow Switch

The Flow Switch (GLX-FLO-RP) for the Hayward Aqua Rite will occasionally fail. When the Flow Switch fails the chlorinator will stop generating chlorine. The following steps will provide a guide on how to replace the GLX-FLO-RP.

Step 1

TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE TIMER BOX. There should be a circuit breaker before the timer box where the power can be turned off. This is important because you do not want the pump running when you remove the existing sensor.

Unplug the flow switch cable from the Hayward Aqua Rite control box. The cable has a phone style plug which makes it very easy to remove.

Step 3

Using an udjustable wrench, remove the black flow sitch from the flow switch tee. The switch will need to be turned counter clockwise.

Step 4

Place the new Hayward flow switch (GLX-FLO-RP) into the flow switch tee by pressing the two posts together and slipping it into the small opening.

Step 5

Tighten the GLX-FLO-RP onto the flow switch tee.

Step 6

Make sure the arrows on the Hayward Aqua Rite flow switch are pointing in the direction of the water flow. If you are not sure of the direction of flow, there are arrows on the flow switch tee that point in the direction of the water flow.

Step 7

Plug the flow switch cable back into the Hayward Aqua Rite control box.

Step 8

Turn on the power at the circuit breaker.

Step 9

Inspect the lights on the Hayward Aqua Rite control box. If everything is working correctly, the "Power" light and the "Generating" light will be illuminated. Note: Once the system is running, it may take a minute or so before the "No Flow" light to stops flashing.

The Hayward AquaRite flow switch will replace the Circupool SI and 3rd Gen flow switches.

Is either the Hayward or the AquaRite flow switch a compatible replacement for a CircuPool flow switch? Thanks

Darrin - If you held the switch contacts closed for 60 seconds and the No Flow LED did not go off, your new switch may be bad. That test bypasses tests for low flow and arrows installed wrong. Check that the flow line is plugged all the way into the control box. Then give Hayward a call at 866-772-2100 to see what they say.

I have a constant "No Flow"light. I replaced the flow switch and the arrow is pointing correctly but problem not resolved. Tried troubleshooting suggestion from manual to hold the switch closed and test. Still no flow light remains constantly on. Flow through the system is unchanged for eight years. Is there some other issue to consider?

Robby- It should be alright to reconnect the flow switch wires as long as they are color coded and you don't switch them. I don't know what would happen if they are switched. Put some electricians tape between and around them to keep them from shorting out.
