Blue Wave water balance chemicals
The first, most important step to proper pool care is to keep your pool water in balance. This will ensure that you are getting the most effective use of your chemicals. Test daily to ensure that pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and cyanuric acid (stabilizer) are within the correct levels.
Use as needed to raise total alkalinity levels to the safe (non-corrosive) zone. Stops eye irritation, equipment corrosion, and plater etching caused by low alkalinity. Stabilizes pH balance in pool water and eliminates the demand for unusually large amounts of pH adjusters. Enables chlorine to work more effectively. Recommended Dosage: Use 1-1/2 lbs. of Alkalinity Increaser to raise the alkalinity approximately 10 ppm.

Following chemical treatment, how long do I have to wait before I use my pool?
With the exception of superchlorinating (which requires waiting until the chlorine level drops to recommended levels), you can generally use your pool when the chemical is dispersed throughout the pool. Fifteen minutes to one hour is a good rule of thumb.
(4 out of 5 stars) Alkalinity Increaser - Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate

Pros: Inexpensive bulk quantity
Cons: Plastic recloseable bag might not be desirable for everyone.
Product is probably intended for swimming pools, but I purchased as a bulk quantity for longer term hot tub water balancing. Product packaging is not a "pail" as listed/pictured, but a substituted heavy duty reclosable plastic bag with ziplock closure. Smartly cutting the bag corner works well as funnel to refill my smaller hot tub alkalinity increaser plastic bottle.
