5 lb Alkalinity Booster
The proper level of alkalinity in pool water helps maintain a stable pH. Acid or alkaline influences from sources such as rainfall, make-up water, and choice of sanitizer will shift the pH if total alkalinity is out of range. Critical to alkalinity control, this product effectively raises alkalinity which might otherwise cause equipment corrosion. This product is a special compound used to increase the total alkalinity in the pool and or spa water.
Principal Functioning Agent:
Sodium Bicarbonate..............100%
Test for total alkalinity with a reliable test kit. The desired range for total alkalinity is 80-120 ppm. This product increases the effectiveness of the disinfectant, and helps prevent scale formation. It also prevents corrosion of metals, etching of pool and spa surfaces, eliminates “bounce,” and maintains pH at the proper level. Easy to use; dissolves quickly. If total alkalinity is too low, pH will fluctuate excessively.
It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
FOR THE BEST RESULTS IN A POOL:
1. Keep the total alkalinity at 80-120 parts per million (ppm).
2. Use a reliable test kit to measure the total alkalinity concentration of your pool water.
3. If the alkalinity is below 80 ppm, add this product. Place in the deep end of the pool.
4. Use charts shown to determine the correct amount of the product to use.
Following chemical treatment, how long do I have to wait before I use my pool?
Reply
With the exception of superchlorinating (which requires waiting until the chlorine level drops to recommended levels), you can generally use your pool when the chemical is dispersed throughout the pool. Fifteen minutes to one hour is a good rule of thumb.

Pros: Inexpensive bulk quantity
Cons: Plastic recloseable bag might not be desirable for everyone.
Product is probably intended for swimming pools, but I purchased as a bulk quantity for longer term hot tub water balancing. Product packaging is not a "pail" as listed/pictured, but a substituted heavy duty reclosable plastic bag with ziplock closure. Smartly cutting the bag corner works well as funnel to refill my smaller hot tub alkalinity increaser plastic bottle.
