Hello Thomas- Have sand or media going back into the pool is an indicator of one of two things: either the laterals are damaged or when the valve was reassembled it wasn't set on the standpipe snug and is allowing media back in.

Hi, I currently have a Cooper Ranger sand filter rs-2415 with a Jacuzzi J series, 3500rpm, 1.5 hp pump. My pool is approximately 18000 gallons. Is this hayward filter the right replacement?

Based on Cooper Industries flow filter spec page that you can view here, this Hayward filter should be a good match for what you currently have.

My current pump / filter has 2" intakes and outlets on the pump and cartridge filter that are reduced down to 1.5" pipes connecting between them. For my replacement sand filter will I need the 2" valve or 1.5" valve model? I am thinking I need the 2" valve because the outlet will be 2" that will be reduced down to 1.5" size between the filter and pump. Am I correct or should I use the 1.5" valve model? Thanks for the help.

A     Answered on 4/29/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Mia. You should get the filter with the 2" valve, the S244T2 will fit your needs.

I have a 20K inground pool with a 2hp pump. Will it work with a S244T filter if paired? Or would I need to purchase the next size up 27?

A     Answered on 2/12/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Otto. In order to size a filter correctly, you will need to know the flow rate of your pump. This S244T will suffice if the flow rate of your pump does not exceed 62 GPM. For instructions on how to calculate the flow rate of your pump, refer to our How to Size a Pool Pump guide.

A     Answered on 7/25/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Roland. You will replace the filter sand after 4-6 years of use or when you begin to experience filtration issues like high pressure after backwashing, and poor filtration quality is the top reasons.

It will depend on your flow rate and I can figure that out if you have the distance from your pump to the skimmers.

What size sand filter do i ned for a 10000 gal . pool?

A     Answered on 4/4/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Donald. Sizing a pool filter is based on the flow rate of your pool pump. You can use this S244T filter if you pump flow rate do not exceed 62 GPM.

?     Asked on 2/15/2017 by Gordon Wallace

I have 3/4 hp. Hayward pump (SP2605x7) feeding a existing S200 filter. What is max flow rate for the S244T filter - specs list 62 GPM- my pump will put out 75 GPM against 10 ft. of total head- afraid my pump will over power filter.

A     Answered on 2/16/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Gordon. The S244T filter has a max flow rate of 62 GPM which based on the info you provided the pump is generating more flow than the filter can handle. You will need the S270T filter or convert your pump to a dual or variable speed pump to cut your electricity usage and flow rate down.

Hi, Would this be a good direct replacement for a starite T-240bp-1? Is there anything else that I would need except for the correct sand ? I'm about to pull the trigger and since this site has helped me in the past I'd like to buy from yourselves. My short list is currently this model or the 27" version. Thanks.

A     Answered on 12/8/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Frederick. Yes, this Hayward Sand Filter (S244T) is a great replacement for the Sta-Rite 240BP-1 filter. Other than the sand and plumbing the filter will include everything for installation. The S270T filter will be better because it will offer a higher filtration area which will increase water flow and efficiency.

2 questions on replacement sand. 1. Is #20 sand the same as 20 mesh sand (#30 = 30 mesh)? 2. The specs say 300lb of sand, .018-.021 in (.45 - .55mm) in size. As far as I can determine, this is 30 mesh sand. All the pool sands (silica) seem to be #20, which would be larger diameter (somewhere around .03 in, .8 mm). The larger #20 sand won't filter as small as #30. Is there #30 pool sand available?

A     Answered on 9/30/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Ed- Unfortunately I've never heard of the #30 or 30 Mesh. But all I can tell you is that the MFG states clearly that they only want you to use #20 silica, so using a different size sand could void the warranty.

I have a S244t, it was not filtering, I replaced the valve, the sand with bright light and added 32 gal of liquid chlorine over a week and nothing is happening. The pressure gage shows no increase in pressure, when I back wash the water is not particularly dirty, the pool is deep green and getting greener. What would cause the filter to just recirculate?

A     Answered on 10/4/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

Sounds to me like you have an air leak in either or pump or your plumbing that is not allowing you to get any pressure.

Hi Flor, This filter will be able to filter 25,350 gallons of water in a 8 hour period. You will need a 1 or 1.5hp pump depending on what type of pump you get and or if you have any water features. Here are a few options: Pentair WFE-4, Hayward SP3210EE.

Hi Lolo, There are no specialized hoses that you need to purchase to hook this filter up to a pump. Normally you would just use rigid pvc pipe or flex hoses you can purchase at a local hardware store. The Hayward sp2610x15 1.5 hp is a good fit and I also like the PureLine Pure Water 1.5 HP Pump.

Billy, You will need to replumb but that should be pretty straightforward. Keep in mind that a sand filter will not filter finer particles like a d.e. filter does.

Hi Dan, You would first need to determine the feet of head of your pool, then base of that info determine the gpm the pump have will produce base off of the feet of head. Then compare the gpm to the filter's flow rate capacity. All this info can be found in our How To: Size a Pool Filter guide.

A     Answered on 5/21/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Mike, The flow rate of the Super Pump 1.5hp will be too much for that model sand filter. With everyone wanting to save  money, conserve energy and Utilities Companies offering rebates on energy saving pumps, there is no benefit to increase the hp other that you will circulate the water faster. In doing that you're spending more money to do so.

How often do I have to replace the sand in my filter? What is normal operating pressure?

A     Answered on 3/1/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

On a "fresh start-up" a filter would operate anywhere between 10-20 psi. As a general rule of thumb you only want to backwash when the pressure increases 8-10 psi. You want to make certain that the pump is being turned off whenever you move the handle on the valve. Once backwashing is complete (3-5 minutes), you can switch to the rinse option to re-settle the sand bed. Sand will typically last 5-7 years. Premature backwashing will wear down the size of the sand which will cause difficulties such as cloudy water and higher operating pressures.

When should I change the sand in my filter?

A     Answered on 1/27/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

You should change the sand in your filter every 5-7 years. You can generally tell that it is time if your pool water is not as clear as it normally is or when you notice the interval between backwashes is shorter. You can use > this guide to walk you through it.

.Tank has pihole leaks.

Written on 7/5/2018 by Guest

The Hayward tanh (made in Canada but only 3 years old) developed several pinhole leaks near the seam and near the top by the valve clamp. I first sealed it with JB weld on the outside of the tank. Still leaked. I then covered the JB weld with fiberglass marine repair. Still leaked. I took the head off and did the same on the inside of the tank. Still leaked. I sealed the whole thin inside and out with Bondo. Still leaked.
I gave up and bought a new tank.
Same Hayward but made in USA.
We'll see.
