What are the wires for? My incandescent bulb of course does not have this and I did not see a place inside niche to plug them in.

Hello Tracee - The Amerbrite LED Lamp consists of two pieces; the bulb and base. The wire connects the base to the bulb. You do not have to plug that wire into your existing fixture. LED Lamp manual will illustrate how the bulb is installed.
