Digital Controls
The Raypak Digital gas heater comes with a microprocessor based thermostat control. This control allows you to set your pool or spa temperature precisely at your favorite setting just by pressing an up or down temperature control button. The Digital display gives you a constant read out of your pool water temperature. Just set it, and forget it! Truly simple.
Troubleshooting a gas heater has never been easier. The Raypak Digital has on-board diagnostic controls that let the user and the service professional know what is going on with the heater at all times. In the event that you would ever have a problem with the heater, the digital display will show where the problem is in the control circuit. It's like having a service technician built into every heater!
The Raypak Digital is compatible with most major pool control and remote systems on the market today. Any two-wire or three-wire remote can connect to the Raypak Digital and be integrated into the pool control system of your choice.
Wind Resistant
The Raypak Digital has the best outdoor design in the market today. With over 50 years in designing and building gas heaters, Raypak has put all that experience into its newest heater design. No need for fans to combat drafting problems, the Raypak Digital was designed for outdoor installations with its exclusive low profile design. It is so thoughtfully and carefully designed it actually protects itself from the things that tend to stifle ordinary pool and spa heaters: falling leaves, wind, airborne debris, rain, downdrafts, updrafts, sleet, snow, etc. In fact it is so efficiently designed it ensures uninterrupted heating performance regardless of all but the most extreme weather conditions. Built Raypak tough. Built to last.
Cabinet
One look will tell you that the Raypak Digital is different! The look is contemporary. The design is advanced. And inside and out it's engineered to last. The attractive forest green and charcoal gray panels complement the latest pool and spa equipment designs. Raypak's original "pagoda top" design will keep the heater operating even in extreme wind conditions and downdrafts.
The Raypak Digital has a polyester coated, non-corrosive cabinet that is more durable than solventborne and waterborne coated metal cabinets. Every piece of sheet metal that gets powder coated goes through a 7-stage wash system making certain the powder paint has a perfect bond. Underneath the tough and beautiful finish you will find galvanized metal that offers superior rust prevention and years of durable service.
Non-Corrosive Waterways
The Raypak Digital incorporates the latest in header design technology. Raypak's state-of-the-art engineering department utilized the latest in 3-D computer aided design to engineer the part for optimal performance. Polymer resin headers prevent rust stains from harming your pools surface giving you years of trouble-free swimming pleasure
This Raypak Digital heater has cupro-nickel fin tube heat exchangers for added protection against aggressive water chemistry. Although rare, there are certain applications, like health club spa's, where copper is just not the best choice. Cupro-nickel offers superior tolerance to bad and fluctuating water chemistry, thanks to a harder surface and thicker walled fin tube.

When installing the cupro nickel heater with a salt pool, is a check valve needed? I don't have a lot of room with the way the pool installer hooked the equipment up. I think it will be extremely difficult to add one.
Reply
Hi, Dave. Yes, a Check Valve is still required.
Reply
do I need to install a by-pass valve with this heater?
Reply
Hi. Yes, I would recommend installing a manual bypass. It will allow you to regulate the water flow for maximum efficiency, and service the heater while running your pool.

Want to make certain this is the correct unit to replace an old Raypak P-R265B for a salt water pool. From the Raypak document archives, looks like the current unit is 265k BTU and that the 266K would be a suitable replacement. Just want to make sure before placing the order.
Reply
Ken, Yes, Raypak heater 014939 is the replacement for your 265k BTU unit and is also compatible with salt pools.

What size gas line is used for this heater with distance over 15' from source to heater?
Reply
Hello, for this specific unit you can use up to 50' of 1" piping, 210' of 1-1/4" piping, or up to 445' of 1-1/2" piping.
Reply
My current heater (Jandy Lxi 400k BTU) burned out the heater box after 9 yrs. The original install has only a 1.25 in gas supply pipe in a 130-140 ft run.
Is that too small for a 400k BTU unit?
Is there a problem with having too big a heater for the gas available?
What size will work?
Thanks,
David - Dallas
Reply
Hello, the maximum length of piping that you can have with this unit using natural gas is 95 feet.

Hello,
We are installing an inground hot tub. The pool installer plans to use this heater. I will have a new gas service installed just for the heater. My question is, the drawings they supplied show this unit mounted INSIDE my new pump house. Ive never seen a pool heater mounted inside, they say that's the only way they have ever installed them. Ideas?

I purchased a Raypak 266000 NG ELE from you on 7/14/15 (installed 10/15). It is dripping water out of the tubing above the burners, saturating the unit with salt water. Is less than 2 years the life expectancy of this unit?

Usually, the units last longer. These are both packaged and stocked directly from Raypak who is one of the leading manufacturers of pool heaters. There are a number of variables that can cause these parts to go bad including chemistry that was not balanced.

I have a thirteen year old 16x 32 ft in ground pool, 15,000 gallons. We need to replace our RayPac 2100 Digital heater. What would be the recommended replacement heater?

Hello, Do you know what size BTU heater you are replacing? You will want to replace it with the same BTU saize unless you are having new gas lines installed.

what does rollout SW open mean ? On the screen of the Raypak heater.

Does this machine come with a regulator? Or do you have to purchase that separately?
Reply
The heater does come with a gas valve which is inside the heater, however the regulator that is within the gas line is not supplied with the heater that would be supplied by the gas company.

How far must the Raypak 266000 BTU Heater be from a building. No openings doors, vents or windows near the heater. I assume 6 inches would be OK?

Hi William, A clearance of 6" from the building is okay. For additional info you can review the Raypak Owners/Instructions Manual.

What is the high wind stack that goes with this heater? Is it PART# 6238-125 (009835)?

Hi Michael, The Raypak High Wind Stack 266/267 (009835) would be the correct item.

Can I use this Raypak heater (266,000 BTU's) with my existing 3/4" gas line.
I am replacing my old Teledyne Laars 175,000 BTU heater that has worked well with 3/4" gas line.
Reply
Hi Ella, As long as the distance of gas line from your gas valve to the heater did not exceed 15' than a 3/4" gas line would be fine for the Raypak 266K BTU. If your distance is longer than 15' then email me back with the details and I can make a reccomendation.

Is this heater compatible with an above ground 27' round pool? Thanks.

What is the difference between an Electronic and Millivolt ignition?
Reply
The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?
Reply
Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

We previously had a heater so the gas was in-place.
1) Disconnect and move old heater (heavy, but easy)
2) Connect gas, adding coupler and 3-inch nipple. Pipe dope in appropriate places and tightened to seal. Check for leaks with 50/50 soap and water mix. (Easy, required a pipe wrench to get tight enough.)
3) Replace 6' outdoor prewired electrical whip kit (Moderate)
4) Bond heater to pump and primary ground (Easy, needed a split bolt connector)
5) Run plumbing. Dry fit with with too much pvc...don't be like me or else you'll have to redo one or both sides. Also, with only 1 set of the 2" connectors, you need to be sure it's right before glueing. (Hard, low effort but it's easy to do wrong)

Pool heater was delivered without delay or issue. Very easy process from INYO pools. Installed heater electrical and then had a plumber come and install the gas line. Heater was making funny noises and figured out my pressure was too low. Bumped the pressure up by pump speed and it is working flawlessly. Great purchase experience through INYO pools.

Estimates for replacement were staggering. I’m pretty mechanically inclined; have done plumbing, electrical, and gas in the past. New unit arrived on Friday morning, used a 2-wheeler to roll out the old one, moved new one into place. I had it installed and working by the afternoon. My install was probably easier because most everything lined right up. Saved a TON doing it myself.

My friend and I removed the old heater as well as some of the existing piping as the gas pipe was in poor shape as well as the water delivery. Turned out to take about 3-4 hours for a couple of amateurs but it wasn't overly difficult. Runs great and heats really well!

Memorial Day the pool heater would not light. Could hear it sparking, but not firing. Tried cleaning out some spider webs around the igniter and that got it to explosively light sending a huge orange ball of fire up and out of the heater. That was enough for me.
Went inside and checked out Inyo's heaters. I knew I was still going to go with Rapak because of all the research I did they were the heater of choice. At first I ordered the 266,000 but commercial heater with the cast iron header. Being the holiday Inyo was closed so I called them first thing Tuesday morning. They were very helpful and together we decided I didn't need the commercial version and went with the cupro-nickel heat exchanger instead. This saved me a couple hundred off the original order. This was all in Tuesday morning. Thursday the Estes freight company delivered the new heater!! Unbelievable!!
Sine I was basically replacing my old Rapak 206,000 but heater with the new 266,000 on everything lined right up and it only took 15 minutes to hook up the new heater. I paid our local garbage man twenty buck to haul off the old heater (after I stripped it of things like control board, flame rolloff switch etc. that would work on the new one).
I also installed. One-way check valve between the heater outlet and my clorinator to keep the highly chlorinated water from backing up to the heat exchanger and eating it up when the filter turns off.
My experience with Inyo was wonderful and they are the only company I use for pool stuff.

Local dealers wanted around $4,600 to install this Raypak model to replace my 7 year old heater that finally met its maker. Ordered it from Inyo who had the best price online. Received it 5 days later and fully installed it myself within 30 minutes minus the LP gas line. Everything was quick and easy due to the plumbing being plug and play given it was the same as my old model. The gas line I could have attached myself in about 20 minutes or less but had a plumber friend install that for me just to remove any chance of a leak and risk leaking out $400 worth of LP that is currently in my tank. $3,000 saved doing it myself. I'm pretty handy but even if your handyman skills are pretty low you could easily tackle this job and save yourself a bunch of money assuming you are replacing a Raypak where you don't need to re-plumb anything.

(4 out of 5 stars) Good heater

It does a very Good of heating the pool. The only complaint is that it makes a whistling sound when it is on, louder at lower pump speeds than high pump speeds but always whistling. I did not see an efficiency number but do not expect it to be high since the exhaust temperature (stack) is too hot to touch. Installation was not difficult once the heater is placed in position. I did have to switch the side for water inlet and exhaust due to my pool equipment layout. Note to installers, there is a shutoff valve for gas in the regulator that needs to be turned on. Not obvious looking at regulator.
