what type of wrench is used to loosen the collar on the back up valve?

I have used a strap wrench in the past. You pick them up at any hardware store.

people find using a strap like oil filter wrench works well

I would suggest if you cant do it by hand, use channel locks with a towel between the teeth and the collar

Should be able to tighten & loosen by hand, if not we recommend a strap style wrench (example 99-350-1000 )

Lesson learned. Thought these parts were submerged and would not freeze during the winter. Broke this part and the pressure valve fitting at the pool wall. Simple solution, remove your Polaris by taking the hose off the wall mount. Move everything to a dry heated location and plug it back in next spring and you won't need to buy these parts.

Pros: Easy part search with large image diagram
Having had the collar fail before and had to replace entire back flow valve for $100 I was very pleased to find inyo pools had just the part which failed. Found part search easy to use and delivery was shorter than expected. 30 secs after arrival back flow back in use.
