Hi, The Equalizer (85015200) is installed with the float facing up and the Equalizer o-ring goes under the float.

which side is up on the equalizer? how do I know how much to open or close the adjustable flap door?

Hi, John. The side with the plate faces down. If you want more suction from the skimmer vs the main drain, the plate is open and less suction it will be closed.
