This face ring measures 10.5" in outside diameter.

Jackie, The Large Plastic Face Ring (79212100) is for a Pentair Amerilite Pool Light which is larger than 3-1/2" in diameter. If you can provide us with information on what you're needing a 3-1/2" face plate for we can see if one is available.

My light did not have a face ring. Is it needed and exactly where is it placed during the light assembly?

Hi, Don. This Face Plate is not needed, it would have snap over the old S.S. Face Assembly Ring - 79110600.
