I have inherited a pool and found two of these in the pool shed. What is their function?

They are flow control adapters that are part of your skimmer. Adjusting the flow control will help with adjusting how a pool cleaner will operate.

Hi Mike, You can use this valve to adjust the suction to your pool cleaner, for example you can set this valve so there is more or less suction going to the pool cleaner based on your needs.

Pool was installed 1979. Plastic hold down for valve has cracked and not holding valve in place. I have a threaded valve however threads in supply line are worn and can't help. Valve floats and makes vacuuming very difficult. Vacuuming directly without valve does not always provide sufficient flow. I tried weighting the valve with large washers without success. Is it possible to repair/replace the plastic hold down? I hope skimmer replacement is not my only solution.

We are not aware of a fix but you may want to try a product like "plast-aid" if it is cracked, otherwise you are looking at a new skimmer.
