Do I need to keep my vac plate in my skimmer at all times or can I remove it when I am not vacuuming my pool?

A vacuum plate is only needed when manually vacuuming your pool or using a suction cleaner. When there is no need for a hose connection to the skimmer the vacuum plate can be removed so the skimmer can have normal water flow.
