Is there any way for me to check if this item is causing the IF error on my Hayward H400.

Hello Rene- According to the Owner's manual for the Universal H- series that error code is due to ignition failure. It states: "If the control exceeds the maximum number of ignition retries or recycles the heater will shut down and go into lockout. Automatic reset is 60 minutes."
