David, Yes, unless you have working knowledge of pool heaters, we recommend that you have a heater professional install and adjust this heat exchanger assembly. Gas heater can explode if installed incorrectly.

Hello Dave, I would have a professional install these units unless you have working knowledge of pool heaters, we recommend that you have a heater professional install and adjust this heat exchanger assembly. Gas heater can explode if installed incorrectly.

Hi Dave, It all depends on your level of experience if you have never replaced one the difficulty level would be 4 out of 5. Hayward does recommend that this part be installed by a pool professional.

Heat exchanger leaking

Disassemble all side panels. Remove old heat exchanger. Lifts right out. Reattach all wires. Reinstall all side panels. Pretty simple. Keep screws separated and take pictures before removal

Heat exchanger went bad because of incorrect pool chemistry

Unscrew top of heater. Keep screws together because there are a lot of them. Pretty easy except two screws were hidden underneath. Took old exchanger out and dropped new one in. Put all screws back. Time consuming but not too difficult but time consuming.
