What is the difference between the clear and the blue solar blanket?
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/8/2007 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

First, the clear solar blanket is thicker than the blue; the clear is 14 mil thick while the blue is 12 mil. Secondly, the clear allows the sun to pass through the blanket thus heating the water better.  The blue blanket tends to absorb the heat itself so the blanket gets hot, not the water.  Lastly, the clear blanket has a 6 year warranty as opposed to the 5 year warranty for the blue.

No, the manufacturer does not finish or heat seal the edges on custom sized solar blankets.

Does the solar cover come with an overlap like a winter cover does?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/30/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

No, the solar cover does not come with an overlap. A solar cover is designed to sit on top of the water's surface and fits on the inside perimeter of the pool wall.

Is there a striking difference "heat-wise" in the 8 mil thick solar cover and the 12 mil thick solar cover? Which would you recommend for ultimate pool heating?
 Reply

Debbie, "Heat-Wise"  The thicker the solar blanket the better. Also if you wanting to make it hotter you will want to go with the clear 14-16 mil cover as it allows the sunlight to pass through and not escape. Also it will cut down on evaporation.

The clear solar blankets are the more thicker/durable covers that we would recommend that you could view here.

What are the terms of the warranty? Is it prorated? Are there fees or handling costs for replacement under warranty?
 Reply

Hi Bob L, The terms will vary because we have couple different manufacture. However the warranty is prorated and shipping and handling fees are not covered under the warranty. Whatever that cost is you will have to pay that cost.

I have a 16 x 40 L shaped in-ground pool. Being L shaped, the smaller portion is 10 x 10. From the excess of the 20 x 40 cover is there a tape, or glue I can use that would allow me to attach or patch in the 10 x 10 area to the larger segment? any thoughts? Thank you.

We have customers try a lot of different things over the years. Sew it with fish line, use carpet tape, use winter cover repair tape but nothing seems to hold for a very long time. Heat, water chemicals break down the adhesive. Maybe think about just keeping it in two pieces.
