How do I backwash my Hayward Vertical Grid DE filter?

When the filter pressure rises 8-10 PSI over the clean starting pressure, the filter must be backwashed. Turn off the pool pump. Rotate the multiport valve to backwash position or slide the slide valve up. When the pump is turned on, the dirty DE and water will flow out to waste. Once the water runs clear, turn off the pump. With a slide valve, push the handle down and start the pump. Once the pump is primed, add the required DE. If using a multiport valve, rotate the handle to rinse. Turn on the pump and let water flow for 20-30 seconds, cleaning out the plumbing lines. Turn off the pump and rotate the valve back to filter. Turn on the pump and once primed add required DE.

Will the filter vessel clamp provided for the current DE7220 DE Pro-Grid Filters work on the older DE7220 (S/N 107573) filters. Also has the following number in block near Model Number "330M33". Can Hayward provide legacy T-bolt (5/16" 24 tpi x 5 1/2" long SS material), associated sleeve nut, spring and washers for the older style clamp?

Hi. Yes, the Clamp Assembly Kit - DEX2421JKIT will work with the older DE7220 filter models. Unfortunately, they're unable to provide that bolt.

We would advise you would need to change the filter elements inside the unit you have.

It’s brand new filter 4 weeks old. What I’m saying is it take longer to filter our shock or soda ash like 3 fuss compare to de which is 2 hrs it stays cloudy for awhile until it’s filtered you think it’s better to go with D.E. filter if I’m a picky person like that

Yes, a D.E. filter will clear up the water much quicker and clearer then cartridge filters. It will also depend on the current condition of the water and the brand of cartridges used. Some work a bit differently than others.

My Hayward Pro-Grid Model # DE7220 Filter (72sqft) has to be replaced, however, I see that INYOPools indicates that it is no longer available. I need the entire unit, valve, housing and filters; a new unit. Currently my pool is sized for 72sqft. What alternatives are available?

Hi Cody, Yes unfortunately Hayward is not offering the 72 Sq. Ft. DE for sale on the internet and it would need to be purchased through a local builder or retail store. If you can go smalller then we do have some options by clicking on this page here - DE Swimming Pool Filters
