Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/16/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

Hi Ernest, Heaters are size based on the surface area of the pool or spa not by the volume. You can check out our How To Select a Gas Heater For Your Pool or Spa guide and How Much Does it Cost to Run My Pool Heater? blog for additional info.

My heater is 5 yrs old and is making a horrible, loud noise when heating. It is still heating, but I am hoping it can be repaired so it is more quiet. Any ideas about why it would suddenly sound so loud?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/12/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

Sounds like it might be the heat exchanger. We have RayPak heater models that have cupro-nickel heat exchangers which makes it a lot less corrosive than regular heat exchangers.

I have a 25,000 gallon pool and looking for a pool heater. What are the differences between the 200,000 and the 250,000 btu furnaces. Do I really need the 250,000 furnace?
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/20/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Jim. The BTU's are the difference between the models. The 250,000 BTU will heat faster than the 200,000 BTU heater. Heaters are size based on the surface area of the pool, if your surface are is 500-650 sq.ft then you will need the 250K unit.

How hard is it to switch a Pentair 250 from natural gas to propane
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/14/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

There is usually a conversion kit for do that but I recommend giving Pentair a call first to discuss with one of their techs what all that entails.

Hi, Doyle. It could be a bad wire connection or ignitor module. Review the Pentair Heater Mastertemp Owners Manual to troubleshoot the unit or have a technician take a look at it.

What is the forecast life-expectancy, or real time life, of this heater? Thank you

A  Answered on 8/13/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alex V.

It is difficult to say how long a heater will last. Ultimately, it will depend on how it is maintained. Also, you will want to closely monitor the pH, alkalinity and calcium levels in the pool and ensure that they are always in the proper range.
