How many hours per day should I run my pump?

There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

I have an A.O. Smith K48N2PA105C4, would this be a good replacement? Pool guys have told me the HP is overkill for my pool. Also, is the warranty 2 years for DIY? Thanks

Hi Chad, Yes this pump would be a great replacement for your K48N2PA105C4 you will save a ton your operational costs by going to a variable speed pump, normally 50% - 70% savings or a single speed. We wrote this article on the Savings of a Variable Speed Pump Vs. Single Speed Pump which you may find helpful. Yes, the 2-year warranty applies to DIY installations.

will this variable speed pump, or any others line up the same for the input and output 2 inch water connectors like a Hayward sp3400vsp

Hello Mitchell, currently any of the pumps we carry will not match the unions of the Hayward Ecostar. The waterway does come with swivel unions and risers to make the install pretty easy.

Is this pump able to be installed to a Pentair EasyTouch PL4 Control Panel. If so do I need to order any special cable for communication to the control board?

Hello Craig.  According to the manufacturer the Waterway Power Defender 270 Variable Speed Pump model PD-VSC270 will communicate with the Pentair EasyTouch model PL4.  The V-Green Automation Adapter Kit (Gray) 2517501-001 (2517501-002 is Black) is required.  Unfortunately, the Adapter Kit is not currently in stock.   V-Green Automation Adapter Kit - 2517501-001

Would this be a good replacement for a 2hp Hayward Northstar? The pool is kidney shape, 22,900 gallon

Hello Tim.  The Waterway Power Defender 270 Variable Speed Pool Pump model PD-VSC270 is a good replacement for the Hayward Northstar 2.0 HP Pool Pump.  Cross-referencing the Performance Data for each pump reveals that the two pumps have very similar Flow Rates vs Feet of Head.  Attached please find NorthStar Performance Data Information.  Please reference the model SP4015X20NS for comparison with the Waterway PD-VSC270.   Hayward NorthStar

Will the plumbing for this pump line up with the pipes when replacing a WaterCo SupaTuf 2HP, Part #241200?

good morning Greg, The Waterway Waterway Power Defender 270 Variable Speed Pool Pump 2.7 HP 230V will have the same 2" plumbing as your supa tuf pump but you may have to do a little re plumbing based on the distance between the inlet and outlet ports between the two.

I am needing to replace my Jandy Model SHPM2.0-2 pump. Will this pump replace my pump and work with all of my existing equipment. If it will, will I need to buy a motor or does it come with a motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/21/2022 by InyoPools Product Specialist Craig C.

Hello Sherry.  The Waterway Power Defender 270 Variable Speed Pool Pump model PD-VSC270 will replace the Jandy Stealth Model SHPM 2.0 Pool Pump.  The Performance Data for each pump is very similar at 50 Feet of Head and 3450 Motor RPM.  The Waterway Power Defender VS Pump is a complete motor and pump assembly.  Please note, the lower the Waterway VS Pump's RPMs the slower the water circulates.  A drop in water volume at the return jets, fountain, or spa spillover may be noticeable at slower speeds.  The motor can be programmed to address flow requirements while minimizing energy consumption, maximizing savings.

My jacuzzi variable speed burned out after the warranty was up so I'm stuck trying to replace it before this upcoming summer. Does this model come with a manufacturer warranty and would it be a solid replacement for my jacuzzi? any other recommendations for a replacement besides this one?

Hi Kyle, the Waterway 2.7 HP Power Defender 270 VS Pump comes with a 2-year warranty and would be a great replacement for most larger horsepower pumps.  Let us know the model of your Jacuzzi pump (send pictures or details to us at upload@inyopools.com) so we are sure this is your best option.
