Hello Bob, this is not the correct heat exchanger for the H400IDL model; the correct heat exchanger is the IDXLHXA1400 400K BTU Exchanger

Hi Jim, This heat exchanger is the correct one for the H400ED2BH unit. The HAXHXA1403 is the current replacement for the HAXHXA1400.

1. Is this the proper replacement heat exchanger for a Hayword H400ID?
2. What about replacements for the rusted out V-spreaders? I don't see a replacement part for that.

Hi Andy, This heat exchanger is not compatible with the H400ID unit, yu will need p/n HAXHXA1401. You can see all available parts via the H-Series Induced Draft Heater Parts.

Does the Hayward heat exchanger part #6223-40E work on our Hayward 400 ID CAL pool heater that is about 16 years old?

That would not be the correct heat exchanger, the correct one is part number IDXLHXA1400. We do not carry that heat exchanger so I would contact Hayward to see if they are aware of one of their vendors that still has that in stock.
