Is this a hard wire unit or plug in?

Electrical code requires that this unit be hard wired so this unit does not come with a cord.

Does this unit come with a power cord? If so how does it get hooked into the unit?

The heater does not come with a cord. There is a wiring diagram that comes with the heater. it is a standard 3 wire 115/120v connection.

Can you tell me about how long this unit will bring a 500 gallon hot tub to about 100 degrees?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/5/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

Hello Richard - The time it takes to heat the spa to 100° depends on what the water temperature is when the heater starts. If the water starts at 70°, it will take the Coates 1.5ILS 24 hours to heat a 500 gallon spa to 100°.

Can this be used to augment a heat pump for a swimspa* during extra cold days? Thanks (*1700 gal large spa/ small pool)

You can add this heater to your system before the heat pump to help increase the temperature of the water as to lessen the work load of the heat pump but whether it would be more cost efficient would depend on your local electrical costs and usage. Also if the air temperature is too cold the heat pump will not work regardless if this heater is working.

my in ground pool is about 7500 gallons. Could I use this heater in line to heat the pool in the spring from 70 deg to 85 deg? About how long would it take to heat the water? Would this be hard wired in to a 110 circuit? Thanks,

Hi Jim, This heater would be too undersized sized to meet your heating objectives. We would suggest a an 11 kW Raypak Electric Heater for your size pool. The Coates 1.44 kW is the only 110V electric heater and the Coates heater is hard wired to a 110V electrical outlet.
