I've been told that my pool water is high in phosphates. I have used a phosphate remover to lower the levels but they were high again shortly thereafter. Am I doing something wrong?

There are several reasons why the phosphates can increase. Certain pool chemicals contain phosphates. Fertilizers and pollen can add phosphates into your pool too. You may need to drop down the phosphates as low as you can and use a phosphate remover on a weekly basis for maintenance.

Will using Phosfree raise my filter pressure?
 Reply

A  Answered on 11/27/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Phosfree raises the filter pressure because it puts a coating on the filter media (sand, d.e., or cartridge) so it is able to catch the phosphates. After an 8-10 psi increase in the filter pressure, the filter should be cleaned or backwashed.

We currently are using phosfloc to get rid of the phosphates. However, we keep having to repeat the whole process every couple of weeks. Would this be a better product? We have a DE filter. Thanks!

Hello Julie.  Natural Chemistry's products Phosfree Extra Strength and Pool Perfect + Phosfree function as phosphate removers.  Both products remove phosphates in the filter and are not flocculants.  Adding either of these products into the skimmer, weekly, at the dosage of 2 capfuls (8 ounces) per 10,000 gallons of pool water will reduce phosphate levels gradually and continuously.  Normal backwashing will remove the phosphates and debris/particulate captured by the filter.  Phosfree Extra Strength is recommended for phosphate levels above 300ppb.  Pool Perfect + Phosfree is recommended for phosphate levels less than 300ppb.   Pool Perfect PhosFree 3 Liter - 05131
