I have a PE5D-181L pump with a 3/4 HP AO smith pump. The bearings on that pump are shot. I want to replace the pump and have one in my shopping cart. Can you verify this is the proper tune-up kit for my pump? Thanks, -Dana

A  Answered on 3/23/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Dana. I'm unable to see what is in your cart, this tune up kit will work with your model pump.

Is this the correct kit for my pump? Picture attached.

A  Answered on 3/11/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Yes, this would be the correct GOKIT  but keep in mind that if you have the seal insert in the seal plate that it will need to be removed. Please click here to view it.

Do you carry motor bearings for a Sta-Rite P2R 1HP?

A  Answered on 12/9/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Steve M.

Phil, due to the liability surrounding replacing motor bearings and other internal parts, the manufacturers do not give us the information to reference which bearings go with these individual motors. For that reason you will need to call them to see if they will offer this information; AO Smith can be reached by calling 866-877-5216. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I own a Sta Rite Maxi-Glass pump. The motor model is K48N2PA105, but the model number printed on a thin metal band is P4E6G-189L. Can you tell me which tune up kit to order from you?

A  Answered on 12/9/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Bob. The Tune Up Kit Sta-Rite P4E & P4EA Max-E-Glas II / DuraGlas II - GOKIT38 is the correct kit for your model pump.

Which way does the shaft seal fit, shiney metal against the seal plate or against the impeller?

A  Answered on 7/9/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Please click here to be directed to one of our how-to guides for replacing the shaft seal. The model pump and seal are different however, the concept between your model and this one is the same.

What is the difference in gokit 6 and gokit 54?

A  Answered on 6/6/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi. The Pump Shaft Seals are different. GOKIT6 requires the Seal Inserts - J3-2SS or J3-2-50 and GOKIT54 does not.

?     Asked on 3/19/2019 by Dallas Williams

Is this the seal kit I would need for my pump?

A  Answered on 3/19/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Dallas. Based on the model number, the Pre-1998 Kit GOKIT6 is the correct tune up kit. However, if the Seal Insert - J3-2-50 was removed, you can use this GOKIT54.

Yes, we carry those parts. Please click here to be directed to the parts diagram for your model pump. From the image with some putty of some sort on the pump that part would be listed at key number 15.

My pump is labeled "StaRite Duraglass 2." No copper. There is no mention of a 2 in "Tune Up Kit Sta-Rite Dura-Glas & Max-E-Glas Pump 1998 To Present - GOKIT54" Is it the correct kit for me? Thank you.

A  Answered on 3/26/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

The correct seal kit for the Duraglass II is the GOKIT38. If you would like you can also view the parts diagram here to visually confirm the design.

recently purchased C1245 pump motor from you. What GOKIT do I need GOKIT6 or GOKIT54?

A  Answered on 7/20/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Stacey M.

Hello Duane, This is depending on if you have a copper cone located in the seal plate of your pump, if you do have a copper cone then you would want a GOKIT6 if you do not have a copper cone you would need the GOKIT54.  If you are not sure, it is best to get the GOKIT54 then if you find out you do have the copper cone you can remove that cone and still use your GOKIT. Please watch this video on tune up kits.

I need a motor to replace my Maxeglas PE-5D-124L 1H94W aosmith K48K2PA105 uak.. What do you suggest and how do I know if it is pre or post 1998?

A  Answered on 6/25/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

The replacement motor for your model motor is the UQC1102 and the pre 98 kit is used for the pump models that have the copper cone in the hole of the seal plate and the after 98 kits are made for the seal plates that do not have that copper cone.

I have a spa sized "pool" and the filter system is not moving as much water as it used to. There is no leaking from the pump housing. The suction valve that determines flow from the bottom pool drain and the top strainer when changed from pulling water from both to one or the other doesn't change the outcome. The motor "runs." What are next steps?

A  Answered on 6/11/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Shaun. If you're getting low flow back to the pool then the issue cold be your filtration system if the pump is staying primed. You can get more in our How to Correct Low Water Pressure in Your Pool System guide.

Is the pump shaft seal included in the GoKit54 suitable for saltwater pools?

A  Answered on 6/2/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

The shaft seal that comes in this kit is going to be the standard one that you can use or you can purchase the salt water version shaft seal separate. That part number would be 5250-200 for the pre 1998 series and 5250-210 for the newer series.

Replaced the Duraglas pump motor and used this kit. The pump housing o-ring is a tubular type (hollow, like most o-rings). The original o-ring was solid rubber. The new o-ring was carefully installed one week ago with silicone lubricant. I now have a slow leak (one drop every 5 seconds). Shouldn't the kit include a solid gasket for the housing? And any ideas on stopping that leak?

A  Answered on 5/21/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Chris. I would recommend inspecting the o-ring again making sure it's seated correctly, lubricated and the clamp assembly is tightly secured.

I am in need of the shaft seal ONLY which is included in the GOKIT54. Is it available as an individual part and what is the ordering information if it is ??

A  Answered on 5/15/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Yes, keys number 8 and 8A on the parts diagram here show your options and versions of the seals that you can use. please keep in mind that if you have the copper cone in the seal plate then you have the older style.

A  Answered on 5/12/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

The GOKIT54 is the correct seal kit if you have a Sta-Rite Dura-Glas so if it is leaking the housing o-ring or shaft seal was not installed properly or you do not have a Sta-Rite Dura-Glas.

A  Answered on 4/10/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, David. The p/n for the tune up kit for the Sta-Rite P4E6E-151L pump is GOKIT38

I have a salt pool, which tune up kit would I order to get the correct kit for salt? The pump model number is P2RA5E-131L, a second box below the model number has 1C03M in it. The motor is a 1hp and now froze up, I would like to go to a 1.5hp dual speed with timer. What motor would you recommend? It is 230v.

A  Answered on 2/9/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

We do not carry a saltwater seal kit for that specific pump, but the saltwater shaft seal, which is the most important seal, is part number 5250-210.

Do I need a GO-KIT54 or a GO-Kit 6? How do I know which to order based on pump tag info?

A  Answered on 11/14/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

That is going to depend on the ceramic part of the shaft seal. Part number 5056-08 is the pre 1998 shaft seal and part number 5056-08A is the post 1998 shaft seal.

?     Asked on 6/8/2016 by

We are not sure if our pump is pre 1998 or post 1998. Which kit would you try first? Is there much deference? Thank you!

A  Answered on 6/8/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

I'd recommend giving Hayward a call at 908-355-7995 and provide them with the serial number so they can tell you if it's pre 1998 or post 1998.

I need to order a go kit for a Sta Rite Dura Glas pump. You have two kits available for pre 1998 and post 1998. How can I tell which one I need? Thank you.

A  Answered on 6/5/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

Besides the age of the pump, there is no discernible way to determine which tune-up kit corresponds with your specific pump style.

I recently purchased a 5A kit for a Sta rite pump. The big black pump housing that the seal goes into... does the ceramic side of the seal go into the housing ? which side of the spring loaded part of the seal touches the ceramic one?

A  Answered on 3/22/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Charlie R.

Steve,To get a better idea of how to install your shaft seal, we recommend you watch out how to guide video showing how to replace a pool motor shaft seal. It may not be your exact model pump, but it should be the same process for your pump.

I have a DURA-GLAS H/L Pump. Which Kit will work to replace all the seals?

A  Answered on 9/25/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi Gil, If your pump has a Copper Seal Insert you will need the Sta Rite Dura Glas & Max E Glas Pump Pre 1998 Tune Up Kit. If you it does not have one the Sta Rite Dura Glas & Max E Glas Pump 1998 To Present Tune Up Kit would be the correct kit.

How do I tell if my pump is pre-1998 or 1998 to present? Thanks.

A  Answered on 5/13/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Bob, If you have the serial number for your pump you can call Pentair at 1.800.831.7133 and they can tell you when your pump is manufactured. You can also take the pump apart and look at your seal plate, if your seal plate has that copper insert you have the pre-1998 model.

my pool pump is doing what it is supposed to but it is making a high pitched sound. thank you rick.

Hello Rick - It sounds like the motor bearings are beginning to fail. The motor will eventually seize up and need to be replaced.

My pump is not priming even after cleaning impeller. Will purchasing this kit aid in fixing that problem?

A  Answered on 10/15/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The seal kit can help with loss of prime. I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem. The loss of prime could be from an air leak at the valves or plumbing in front of the pump.

I recently changed my pool motor and gaskets. I made sure to lubricate all the gaskets with vaseline. A few days later water is leaking from the pump. What did I do wrong? Help please!!

A  Answered on 2/13/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

You never want to use vaseline on any rubber gaskets or o-rings. Vaseline is petroleum based and will deteriorate the rubber quickly. Whenever you change the motor on a pool pump it is recommended that you replace the gaskets and shaft seal as well. A >Go-kit contains the shaft seal, packet of non-petroleum based lubricant and gaskets you will need for your pump. If you already have the gaskets, you can purchase >Magic Lube.

Pump motor replacement

Written on 11/21/2017 by Guest

I used this tune-up kit in order to replace my pump motor. I didn’t need to use the large square gasket because I only replaced the motor and not the actual water pump/strainer basket housing.
Make sure any seal you replace is lubricated as per instructions and don’t skimp when it come to how much you use. The other point I would make is to thoroughly clean all surfaces where a seal is to be placed.
I had good luck with my motor replacement! Everything has remained dry. Not even a drip!

Were these instructions helpful?
