Product Description

HURRICANE "PREMIUM QUALITY" LOW PROFILE SOLAR REEL
Non-corroding aluminum reel fits under most diving boards.

Engineered for smaller hotel and motel pools, this reel is designed for heavy use. Its powder-coated heavy gauge aluminum frame is super strong, lightweight, and will never rust or corrode. The large stainless steel crank with handle at one end makes turning the reel easy. Precision sealed bearings allow a single person to effortlessly glide the solar blanket off your pool.

Our premium reel is built with a heavy-duty 3" tube that will not sag or flex. It will support solar blankets up to 24-ft. wide by 50-ft. long (please note:  this references the maximum blanket size the heavy duty tube can hold, not the size blanket that fits this reel.  This reel is for pools up to 20' wide). Standing only 12" high, this low profile reel can fit under most diving boards for easy storage when not in use. Includes all straps and necessary hardware. Base and frame are aluminum. Optional locking casters can be added for easy portability.
1-Year warranty.

Tube Diameter: 3"

*Recommend using a 4” Solar Blanket Storage System for pools 600 sq. ft. and larger when used with thicker mil solar blankets.

Assembly of the 20" Hurricane Aluminum Solar Reel

Written on 5/12/2021 by Guest

This was not as straightforward with a custom designed pool in a kidney bean shape as it would be with a rectangular pool. Assembled it per the instructions. We needed the 20'. We twisted the tubes inside each other and marked the spots where we were going to sink our screws to attach them with a black sharpie. I used a nail as a punch into the soft aluminum tubing where we would sink the assembly screws. We left 5" per side from the inside of the triangular supports to attaching the first strap, then marked off 8 places equidistant. We then marked the solar blanket from the outside 20', working inward to mark where we would attach the 8 clamps to the solar blanket. We then measured and marked the 8 places where the straps would attach to the reel with a red sharpie. We felt the straps that came with the reel inadequate for our purposes because of their short length. We ordered a strap set off Amazon. After we attached the clamps to the solar blanket, we used the velcro fasteners that came with the Amazon straps to affix the straps to the reel. The velcro were the type where you peel off the back, which exposes the adhesive and we stuck them on to the tube. At some point we might screw the straps to the reel, which is probably the more durable method but the adhesive velcro worked fine. We then attached the straps and started reeling. We purchased a cover for the blanket which was more than adequate and were done with it. It sags in the middle which I expected, given the weight of the blanket, but I could not find a 4" reel so we had to make due. The solar blanket is really heavy and hard to deal with with out the reel. This was not ideal, but we were committed after we installed the solar blanket. CAUTION: ONCE ASSEMBLED AND THE BLANKET IS ON THE REEL, DO NOT PICK IT UP BY THE TRIANGULAR FRAMES HOLDING THE TUBING! PICK IT UP BY THE TUBING! THE LITTLE TRIANGLES CAN ROTATE AND THE WEIGHT OF THE BLANKET CAN WRENCH THE TRIANGLE FROM ONE'S GRASP. WHEN IT ROTATES WITH THE WEIGHT ON IT, IT REALLY HURTS IF THE METAL TRIANGLE COMES AROUND AND WHACKS ONE ON THE WRIST AND HAND! A wise man learns from his own mistakes, a genius from the mistakes of others.

Solar cover was too awkward and heavy to manage without reel system

Written on 3/22/2020 by Guest

This went together in about an hour. you will beed a drill to drill pilot holes into the aluminum to connect the beam together mine was about 20 feet wide.

Straps connected the end of the blanket and wind it right up! I was really easy to assemble for the mechanically savvy. Just follow the directions that come with it and you'll be fine.

Screw gun and a drill makes it go faster!
