Can you recommend a pump that works well with this filter? I have an 11.5k gallon inground pool with about 75ft of 2 inch pipe from skimmer to pump.

Hi, Scott. Unfortunately, pumps are sized differently. You can review our How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool guide for the specific info required.

Does the Hayward C 1200 also comes with a cartridge ??

Good Afternoon John- The Star Clear Plus 120 Sq Ft. Filter 1.5" Ports - C1200 only includes the housing. The Pureline Cartridge for Hayward C-1200 (PA120)(C-8412) - PL0146 is sold separately.

I have a C1200 filter housing, the lip on the lid has developed several cracks and has started to leak. time to replace the lid. can I use a taller lid to give me for filtration, with a bigger filter of course? what parts would I need to do this? thanks
Reply
Technically yes you could but would also need to replace the rod part number 4663-11D, the lid as you knew and would also need to make sure that the base has 2-inch ports because by increasing the flow(if that is what you plan) you may need a 2-inch port.

I have a Hayward Star-Clear II cartridge filter C1100. It is old and in need of replacement. I have a 20 x 40 pool (approx. 33,000 gal). The pump is a Hayward Super II pump using a motor CT1072 motor and a 3/4 HP impeller. What would be the best replacement Hayward star clear plus cartridge filter to buy to work with my pool and pump? The lines are 1 1/2"

I currently have Hayward pump SP2300VSP for my Pool/Spa that has an approx volume of 10,500. I was told that my Hayward Cartridge filter C1200 is to small. I am questioning this information. Do I need a larger filter?
Reply
You may not necessarily need to upgrade the filter but the advantage that you have is that you can dial down the rpm's on the pump decreasing that water pressure in the filter. If that pressure gauge is reading high(average 5-15 on a standard system) then you may want to consider upgrading that filter 50-75 sq ft.

I have a Jandy DEV48 filter, and want to change to a cartridge filter since replacing grids due to DE powder getting in pool.
Would a Hayward C1200 cartridge filter system work? I have a 10K gallon pool and 1.5 hp pump motor.

I currently have a System 3 Filtration system DE Filter. Filtration area is 37sq.ft and filtration rate is 2 GPM/SQ. FT (81.5LPM/SQ.M) Max flow rate 74 GPM. I want to replace it with a Hayward cartridge filter. I was looking at the C1200. Is this too much filter for my pool. This DE filter is the filter that the pool manufacturer installed almost 20 years ago.

Hello, you would be fine going with this filter. When it comes to sizing a filter for a pool, you can typically never go too large. The reason for this is because if a filter is oversized, the water will be able to flow through at a slower rate and filter better.

I currently have a C1100, old and leaking at the seal. It appears it is less expensive and better to replace it with a C1200. My pool is 33k gal. Is this a proper replacement. Thanks for your time and advice...Ray

I have an 11000 gal pool that currently has a C-900 Hayward filter and a 1-hp single speed pump. I need to replace both the pump and filter. Am thinking of upgrading to the C-1200 filter and a 1.5 hp pump. I have 1.5" pipes and it is about 30' from skimmer to the pump. Should I stick with the C-900 and 1 hp pump or upsize to the 1.5 and C-1200?
Reply
Changing to a 1.5HP would be work for your system as long as you upgrade to the C1200.

Hi, I have an 11,000 gallon in ground pool. Currently I am using a Pentair Intelliflo 3 HP variable speed pump and an old Standard-Rite filter (sand converted to Cartridge at some point). I want to upgrade my filter however since the cartridges for the filter are incredibly expensive. Any suggestions on a new filter?

What is the model of your current filter? I will need to know that or the distance from your pump to the skimmers so I can calculate your estimated flow rate so I can recommend the correct size of filter.

I have a Hayward Star Clear plus CX1200 with a pleatco filter. It's been running fine. Well I notice I didn't have a basket in the pool to collect debris(leaves and what not) ano I bought one and put it in. Well I think the motor blew and since everything is 21 years old, I can't read any info on the motor except GE commercial motors by regal weldit. The by part is iffy. My question is what do I replace it with without replacing the star clear housing and filter?

Hi Pablo, If you can send us photos of the pump and the p/n that is on the impeller we can find out what size motor or pump you will need.

I have a Hayward C-1200 Star Clear Plus Filter. How do I determine the port size? I am in the process of replacing the filter because the Tie Rod comes out when removing the filter top or cover. I have this filter in operation for 12 years.
Reply
You would need to measure your pipe size to determine the correct 1.5" or 2.0" port size needed. In general, the 1.5" size is the most common for these filters.

I have a 28,000 gallon in ground pool. I just bought the the star clear 12002 with 2" ports hooked up to a new Hayward Tristar variable speed pump. I am finding a lot of conflicting information on what the appropriate cartridge sq.ft. size for my pool. Some articles suggest a cartridge filter size no less than 20% of the number of gallons. Will this filter be undersized for my pool?
Reply
The cartridge filter you purchased will accommodate a pool up to 57,600 gallons. I am sure you will have plenty of proper filtration.

I'm a bit confused. On 12/9/15 Lance asked a question about a 1.5 hp pump and Hector F. answered that this would have to much pressure for the C1200. On 7/7/15 Joe asked about the C1200 and Dennis R. answered that pumps up to 2hp would be fine. So... what's the correct answer? We have an 18x36 with a 10' deep end and have a 1.5 hp pump and a 1hp back up pump (from a prior pool). What would be the best size filter for us?
Reply
Hi Jim, we would always suggest going bigger on your filter. A 2 HP pump on a C1200 would be on the very upper limits of what the C1200 filter could handle, so I would suggest the Hayward C17502 175 Sq. Ft. Filter as you will see longer life out of your pump motor and you will have longer time between cleaning the cartridge.

how do you measure the port hookup, from the inside or outside? I have a Hayward 1.0 hp pump Do I need a 2 inch or 1 1/2 inch port?
Reply
Hi Don, You will have to measure the actual pvc line to find out what size port you need.

I have a 40k gallon pool in a house I just purchased which only has an s200 sand filter with a 1HP super pump (well undersized I've come to find out). I'm looking to buy a c1200 to replace the sand filter but is the 1HP pump good enough or do I need a 2? I've seen that the specs on the pump and it doesn't seem to have the flow rate to properly turn over the pool but wanted to check before buying the c1200. Thanks!
Reply
Craig, For a 40,000 gallon pool, I would recommend at the least 225 sq ft if you are converting to a cartridge filter. A 1HP pump sould be sufficient if the total feet of head is within 50-60 feet.

I am replacing a DE filter with a 3/4 hp pump, which never properly ran my pool vacuum. Would the C1200 coupled with a 1hp motor effectively clean my 20,000 gallon pool and have my pool sweeper / vacuum go all the way up my pool walls?
Reply
is this filter OK for a 1.5 hp pump motor?
Reply
I would recommend either using a larger square footage filter and or a 1 hp up rated motor. In general the 1.5 hp motors and or pumps would have a bit too much pressure to work with the C1200.
Reply
How do you know when to replace the C1200 filter? Mine is 15 years old.

The filter body only needs to be replaced if it is cracked or damaged. If you are referring to replacing the cartridge, we have a guide that will help answer that question. The guide is titled " How To Determine When a Filter Cartridge Needs to be Replaced".

Does this system come with a cartridge installed? Also, does it take a professional pool tech to clean the cartridges?

Hi Stan, The Star Clear Plus 120 Sq Ft. Filter does includes the filter cartridge inside. It does not take a pool professional to clean the cartridge you can do it yourself. You can review our How To guides: How To: Clean a Pool Cartridge Filter & How To: Clean A Cartridge Filter w/ a Filter Flosser to see how it's done.

Wil this filter work with a 3/4 HP pump?

Yes, the Star Clear Plus 120 Sq Ft. Filter 1.5" Ports C1200 will work fine with a 3/4 HP pump.

Hi.....
Is the C1200 big enough for a 25,000 gallon pool?
Thanks!
Reply
Hi Joe, The real question is "Will the C1200 filter be compatible with my pool pump?". The filter has to be able to handle the GPM water flow that is generated by the pool pump. The GPM rating for the C1200 filter is 120 GPM which will handle most pumps up to 2 HP. Most 25,000 gallon pools have pumps with 1 1/2 to 2 HP. Bottom line, If your pool pump is 2 HP or less, the C1200 filter will be large enough for your pool.

This is a follow up question; is it ok to use with an above ground pool? What is the warranty that comes with the product?
Reply
Yes this filter is okay to use with an above ground pool. It has a 10 year warranty on the filter tank and 1 year on parts.
Reply
Does the C1200 come with the cartridge and hoses?
Reply
Hi Trisha - This filter is generally used with an in-ground pool system and is installed with pvc piping. Therefore, it does not come with hoses. It does include a cartridge however.

When my pump comes on, the top section of the filter body raises about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. Then after running for a while, the "O" ring pops out, causing a massive leak. I replaced the "O" ring but to no avail. I have a model C1200 Hayward filter. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Reply
Hi Ed, it sounds like the top section of the filter body is not screwed down far enough. Make sure that the cartridge is the correct size and that it is seated all the way down when you place it in the tank. Clear out any debris that may be in the bottom fo the tank. Make sure the groove where the two section of the tank connect is clear. If your O-ring is stretched from popping out, you may have to replace it.

How do I backwash the Hayward c900 cartridge filter to clear a blockage?
Reply
Karen, To clean the cartridge, you must remove it from the tank and soak it in a cartridge cleaner. Once it has soked for a few hours, you will need to hose it off.

I have a 36000 gallon 18 X 36 in ground pool will this filter work with the size of my in ground pool with a 1.5 superpump ?.I'm replacing a old d.e. filter .
Reply
Jamie, Yes. based on the specs of the Hayward C1200 cartridge filter, it can turn over 57,600 gallons in 8 hours (up to 120gpm). Keep in mind that you will not get the same filtration quality that you would with a d.e. filter.

Hello, I am considering the C1200 filter for my above ground 24' dia. pool. Will this filter cover the needed GPM and maximum gallons of approximately 22,000 gallons? I have a 1.5 HP pump as well.
Reply
The C1200 filter will handle 120 gpm on a residential pool and will turn over 57,600 gallons in 8 hours. It will be more than plenty for your pool.

Are there specs on how many microns this filter is rated at? Is there available another filter that won't allow finer particles to pass through?
Reply
As a rule, sand filters sift particles ranging from 20 to 40 microns in size. Cartridge filters can sift particles as small as 10 to 20 microns in size. DE filters can sift contaminants as small as 1 to 3 microns in size. This makes DE filtration at least five to six times more efficient than sand filtration systems.

The filter I had before needed to be backwashed. How do I backwash this Hayward C1200 or C12002?
Reply
This filter model type is a cartridge filter and does not actually need to be "backwashed". The filter cartridge element inside must removed on a regular basis which is on average about every month, rinsed down with a water hose and pressure nozzle of some sort and then put back into place.

I am replacing a 24" sand filter operating from a Hayward 1HP Super Pump. My pool is an in-ground that holds 35000 gallons. Will the C1200 filter (1.5" pipe) be adequate for this pool which is lightly used?
Reply
Yes this would be a proper fit for your pool. The Hayward Super Pump (1HP) would not be able to exceed the flow capacity of the C1200 allowing it to be a proper and safe fit for your system.

(5 out of 5 stars) Hayward Pool Filter Replacement
Reviewed By: mdvawter from Tamap, FL ()
Pros: good construction; easy to install
Cons: poor documentation
I had to replace an older unit that began to leak. The new unit is very similar to the old deisign. Fortunately, the plumbing matched so installation was simplified. There is a new gauage and top cover design. There were no installation instructions or an explanation about the new gauage.
