Is this light a proper replacement for an American Products R-400 BC? Will it fit properly in the existing CN-5 fixture? How about the 12-volt model?

Hi Larry, You would need to compare against these Amerilite Dimensions and if they match up then this light would work for you.

My 25 year old housing developed a pin hole (rust), partially filling with water and shorting the bulb out. Can I simply connect the new unit to the old wiring, or must I replace the old wiring with the new wiring?

You would need to replace the entire light fixture including the wiring.

My bulb burned out in my R400BCL light fixture which was a 400W bulb. I went to the local commercial pool supply store and they only had 500W bulbs available. He said it would work and that they sell them to the pool companies all the time as a replacement bulb. I would like to know if this is correct before I install the bulb.

Hi William, You can use replace a 400 watt bulb with a 500 watt bulb. I would also recommend replacing the light fixture lens gasket, so that water does not seep into the light fixture.

Hi Ron, I was unable to locate any info on a CN-5 pool light. If you can provide the model number of the pool niche we can find out which light will work as a replacement or you can compare the physical of this light to the one you have.

Existing pool light did not work

Written on 5/23/2020 by Guest

Existing pool light casing leaked and filled with water. Turned off power to light at switch and breaker. Removed existing light by removing single retaining screw (did not drain pool).

Cut existing light wiring at back of housing and attached new light wires by twisting wires together and wrapping in electrical tape. Pulled old wire out at junction box which brought new wire through. Replaced bulb with LED bulb. Installed new light by securing single retention screw.
