Is this light a proper replacement for an American Products R-400 BC? Will it fit properly in the existing CN-5 fixture? How about the 12-volt model?
Reply
Hi Larry, You would need to compare against these Amerilite Dimensions and if they match up then this light would work for you.

My 25 year old housing developed a pin hole (rust), partially filling with water and shorting the bulb out. Can I simply connect the new unit to the old wiring, or must I replace the old wiring with the new wiring?
Reply
You would need to replace the entire light fixture including the wiring.

My bulb burned out in my R400BCL light fixture which was a 400W bulb. I went to the local commercial pool supply store and they only had 500W bulbs available. He said it would work and that they sell them to the pool companies all the time as a replacement bulb. I would like to know if this is correct before I install the bulb.

Hi William, You can use replace a 400 watt bulb with a 500 watt bulb. I would also recommend replacing the light fixture lens gasket, so that water does not seep into the light fixture.

i need a 500 watt replacement unit for model number CN-5 Fixture Housing , wet niche type , fresh water only. This is a ingroun fox pool.

Hi Ron, I was unable to locate any info on a CN-5 pool light. If you can provide the model number of the pool niche we can find out which light will work as a replacement or you can compare the physical of this light to the one you have.

Existing pool light casing leaked and filled with water. Turned off power to light at switch and breaker. Removed existing light by removing single retaining screw (did not drain pool).
Cut existing light wiring at back of housing and attached new light wires by twisting wires together and wrapping in electrical tape. Pulled old wire out at junction box which brought new wire through. Replaced bulb with LED bulb. Installed new light by securing single retention screw.

(4 out of 5 stars) American Products Light Replacement w/ Amerlite
Reviewed By: Wally B. from Indianapolis, IN ()
Please note this light replaces the American Products R400-BC. This light had been in our pool for at least 11 years. The new pentair light is very similar in design, but has a better sealing system. The pentair light fights the existing American Products niche perfectly. The light was easy to install and connect as the conduit was still in good shape; about a 30 minute job.

(5 out of 5 stars) Great pool light

I replaced my old light with this one which was basically identical (400W and 120V). My old one (20yrs) would pop the GFCI breaker as soon as i turned it on (replaced the breaker and that did not fix it...) Did it my self no problem in about 20 min. Light works great and really bright! No more breaker popping problems! Best deal i could find online for this light, great site!
