Hello, Iā€™m looking to replace my current single speed pump with a variable speed pump. My pool is somewhere between 20,000-25,000 gallons, and the average TDH is 170/3=57ā€™. I have a connected hot tub as well. Also, my filter is a Pentair Quad 60-DE filter, rated at 120 GPM. Is this the right size pump for my situation? If not, what would you suggest? Thank you so much!

Hi, Steve. This pump will be sufficient based on the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) of your entire pool. To properly calculate the head, use our How Do I Calculate Feet of Head for My Pool? or How To Measure Total Dynamic Head With Gauges guides.

Hello. I have a Jandy HHPLUS Series pump and Jandy Model PHPU2.0 HP Motor with 2" connectors. Do you believe that this SuperFlo VS Pump could be a replacement for that pump? If not, what other options do I have for VS speed pumps? Thanks for your time.

The SuperFlo VS would be an adequate replacement, but the Pureline Prime 2.7 VS would be the best buy for the money in this range of pumps.

I currently have a pool pump with Century motor (USQ1202) with 2 HP and SF=1.10 and total HP =2.20. Will the Pentair superflo variable speed pump be a good replacement? I believe the Pentair superflo has 1.5 HP only but the total HP is also 2.20.
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/3/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Wes, The Total HP or True HP is the number you will want to compare. Since your current motor has a True HP of 2.2 and this SuperFlo Variable Speed also has a True HP of 2.2 then you will be fine using this as a replacement.

 Reply

A  Answered on 5/26/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes, this pump could replace the Jandy PHPF1.0 pump. Our recommendation would be the PL2605 PureLine Prime 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pump, the PureLine Pump has been a great pump for us. The plumbing ports on either of these pumps are not in the exact same spot as your current pump so you will have a little re-plumbing.

Hi, Robin. It's possible based on your pools Total Dynamic Head (TDH) and the required flow rate..

No way for me to figure that out ... it’s a 15,000 gallon In ground pool with a connected hot tub. I think the pipe is 2 inch.

     Reply

    • Commented on 5/15/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Robin, In normal pool applications the Total Dynamic Head will be around 50' based on this number the SuperFlo VS will be outputting 70 GPM on the high speed where your WhisperFlo WFE-28 would be outputting about 120 GPM at 50' of head. For general pool filtration the 70 GPM should be more than enough for a 15,000-gallon pool, the only thing that would be a question mark is the spa jets. You may have the higher HP on your pool so that you can adequately power your spa jets. Depending on the type of spa jets you have determines your flow needs. Spa jets normally need between 6 GPM - 20 GPM based on the model. Let's say you had 10 jets that require 10 GPM each then you would need a pump that could output a 100 GPM and the 70 gpm of the SuperFlo VS would not be adequate. I hope this helps.

Yes, the maximum strength of this variable speed pump will umbrella your current motor specifications and can always be dialed down to match what you currently have if you need to. Just keep in mind that if you have an automation system that you may need a communication link to be able to control that pump from your panel.

I have a single speed Sta-Rite model number MPRA6E-147L running on 230v and I just added a Jandy heat pump JR3000TR to my system that I bought from you. Based on the information I know, my TDH is 30 and my sand Filter is capable of handle about 63 GPM. The current pump is 1hp and the piping system is 2in. I want to upgrade to a variable speed pump where my connection are the same to the current pump. Do you have any recommendation?

A  Answered on 5/26/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Jose, Unfortunately, there is not a drop in replacement pump for your MPRA6E-147L pump. You do have two options... Option #1 is to replace your pump with the 1.65 HP PureLine Prime Variable Speed Pump which would require some re-plumbing. The other option would be to replace your motor with the Century 1.65 HP Variable Speed Motor a Dyna Glas 1.5 HP Impeller and a Dyna Glas Seal kit. The second option would continue you to use your current pump housing so no re-plumbing would be required.

As long as the pump housing is in good condition, and you have not had any issues with flow or suction with the horsepower rating there, then it sounds like an ideal upgrade to a variable speed motor.

Hi, Joe. You can if the Superflo VS Pump will meet your pools need. The Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Pump is a higher performance pump than the Superflo Pump and maybe oversized for your pool. You can use our How To Size a Pool Pump guide to determine if the Superflo VS Pump will be able to meet your pool needs.

Pump runs from 12am to 8am at step 3 (2200 RPM). Each time the pump starts up (12am), the return jets blow out dirt and cartridge filter fiber. This seems to only happen then. Not a problem during quick clean. What do you think is the problem and how should I go about fixing it (already tried cellulose fiber)? THX!

Good Afternoon Chris, Sounds like you need a new filter element. How long has it been since you replaced your element. The cellulose fiber could be your problem if your using to much once the filter is clogged. You will have blow back. If the filter element is old replace it. If it is not old clean it and quit using the cellulose.

Hi Wayne, The Pentair IntelliFlo Variable Speed (011018) would be your best option.

You may view the stats on this SuperFlo VS within the SuperFlo VS Data Sheet. The SuperFlo VS is only available in a 1-1/2 HP max HP.

The main difference is on the high speed capabilities of the pump, the Intelliflo can ramp all the way up to 3 HP where the SuperFlo can go up to 1-1/2 HP. For most pools the 3 HP is overkill and you really never need to go above 1-1/2 HP. If you have a standard pool 25,000 gallons or less and no crazy water features then the SuperFlo would be fine.
