Product Description

Raypak's Heat Pumps feature exclusive DuraSteel powder-coated cabinets, 3 blade swept wing fangs, and a best in class warranty service.

Classic Model Standard Features:

Cabinet Durability

  • Exclusive DuraSteel™ Powder-Coated Cabinet
Same rugged steel construction used by all the major air conditioner manufacturers. Fully louvered steel jacket protects the evaporation coil from storm debris, hail, and harsh weather. Not to mention the winning goal in a back yard soccer match. A plastic cabinet is no match for the all steel Raypak cabinet.

Quiet Operation

  • 3 Blade Swept Wing Fan
Precision engineered and tuned for our heat pump. This means more air over the coil which translates to greater efficiency all while being whisper quiet!
  • Extremely Tough Composite Base
Rustproof and ultrasound deading base material keeps your heat pump up and running for years while holding sound levels to an absolute minimum.

  • Scroll Compressor
Scroll compressors are quiet and efficient compared to piston type compressors. They provide higher efficiency, lower sound levels, superior durability, and unsurpassed reliability. The unique design of a scroll compressor actually wears in overtime, not out!

Titanium Heat Exchanger

  • Spiral Titanium Tube
The spiral titanium tube heat exchanger provides a corrosion-free waterway that can withstand the abuses of harsh pool chemistry. The spiral tube helps reduce deposit build-up and increases efficiency by performing a “scoop-and-lift” action.
  • Internal Automatic Water Bypass
  • Plumbing Connections Off-set 2” PVC union connections

Digital Controls - Basic Functions

  • Pool/Spa Control
Your digital heat pump pool heater can be set to have a different target temperature for your pool and spa. This allows you to dial in just the right spa temperature and never have to adjust it again. The pool can be set to a lower, more energy saving temperature.
  • Remote Compatible
The digital heat pump pool heater can be easily controlled by most two-wire and three-wire remote systems. The digital display will flash “Remote” to let you know that it is under control of a third party automation system. Simply press the up and down arrows for 5 seconds to release the control from the remote mode and regain local control.
  • On Board Diagnostics
Tells you, the homeowner if there is a problem. Provides the service technician with detailed diagnostic information in real english.

Digital Control - Built-in Mini Automation

  • Solar Priority Control
Allows solar to be the primary heat source and your heat pump as a backup booster.
  • Heat Pump Priority Gas Heater Back Up Control
Heat pump is the primary source for heat with gas as a booster when needed.
  • Multi Unit Control
Stages heaters ability to come on by delaying the start.
  • 3-Way Valve Control
Control and program 3-way valves to work with pool and spa mode on digital control. No external parts to buy.
  • Pump Control and Time Clock

I have 27K gallon pool in NJ. What size heat pump to maintain the water at about 78 degrees? Thank you.

A  Answered on 5/29/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Joe S.

Hey Lou, we would recommend the Raypak Classic Series Heat Pump 140,000 BTU for a pool of 27k in the North East. We would also recommend using Natural Chemistry COVER FREE 1 Gallon - 07109. COVERfree is an advanced mono-layer technology that helps save water and money by decreasing evaporation.  It reduces water evaporation by up to 85% and reduces heat loss by as much as 70%.

I would like to not use any gas or any propane Can I buy this unit and only use electrical also is there financing

A  Answered on 5/29/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Joe S.

Hey there Maria, yes this unit will not use Propane or Gas. It would solely be powered by electricity. It will require at least a 50 amp 220 Breaker.

I am replacing an old 400,000 BTU propane pool/spa heater. We use it texclusively to heat the spa (approximately 10 feet by five feet & about three feet in depth). In Maine, outside temperature is between 50 degrees and 70 degrees when this will be operating. How long would it take this heat pump to heat my spa from 70 degrees up to 100 degrees? Takes approx. 40 minutes to an hour with our old 400,000 BTU propane heater - will this require double to triple the time?

A  Answered on 5/7/2019 by Raypak

Yes this will take at least double or triple the time.

A  Answered on 5/3/2019 by Industry Professional

The heat pump gets heat from the air so the warmer the air the better. The heat pump will take 3-4 times longer to heat versus the gas heater. Once it is up to heat you could just have it maintain the heat.

We have a 20x40x8 full sun (no shade) pool in Louisville, Ky. Needing advice for most efficient and cost effective electric heat pump pool heater. Looking currently at your 140000btu... thanks in advance!

A  Answered on 3/8/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Robert. The Raypak Classic Series Heat Pump 140,000 BTU - R8450TI-E will be sufficient for your pool. If you'll be using a cover, you can go with a smaller unit.

A  Answered on 3/9/2019 by Product Owner

Definitely go with the 140k BTU. Trust me. I also have a 20' x 40' pool that's in the sun all day here in NJ and my 110k BTU heat pump takes many many hours to a few days to raise the temperature a significant amount. I use a solar cover to retain heat in at night. Heat pumps are very slow to heat pool water compared to gas. They are good at maintaining heat once the desired temp is achieved but if there's a cold night without the solar cover on it can be a while before the temp rises back up.

?     Asked on 2/17/2019 by brupol

Is there an internal\integral timer designed into this unit so as to facilitate either a temperature reduction for overnight period, or even a shut-down completely in that time frame? thx

A  Answered on 2/19/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Ronald E.

Hello,This system is equipped with a freeze protection feature so that when the air temperature drops below 32 degrees it will turn on until the air temperature increases.

  • Commented on 2/19/2019 by Product Owner

Here in Hawaii I would think that freezing couldn't occur, but I was asking about a set-back temp setting for reduced overnight function. [or even power off @ user-defined times?] thx

    • Commented on 2/19/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi. This unit is not equipped with such a feature. This unit will only call to heat when the pump is in use. So if the pump is not operating during the night, the heat pump will not turn on saving energy in standby mode.

A  Answered on 5/25/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Pat. Heater or Heat Pumps are sized using the surface area of the pool. You may need multiple heat pumps to heat a pool your size. Use the Raypak Heat Pump Sizer to determine what size units you'll need.

Hi, Laz. You can use a 95-110K BTU heat pump to efficiently heat a 14,500 gallon pool in Central FL. However, you will need to calculate the surface area of your pool to also determine heat loss. The top manufacturers will be Raypak, Hayward, AquaCal

Hi. I am replacing a StaRite 333K BTU Nat Gas heater for a 800 soft pool, 32000 gallons, maintain pool temp at 84 degrees. Pool location in mid Michigan. Like to run Mid May to Mid Sept. can you recommend a heat pump for my application?

A  Answered on 4/9/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Hello- The biggest heat pump we would have to offer, 140k BTU, would not be able to reach the desired temperature for your pool based on the square footage provided and your location. Also, a heat pump will not be able to heat as fast as a heater or regenerate heat like your current heater can. If you were to purchase a heat pump I would recommend using it in tandem with your current gas heater.

One more question, can I install this heat pump, the pool pump and a salt water generator on a 60 AMP (240 volt) line?

A  Answered on 9/13/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Johnny, You will need a dedicated 50 amp breaker for the heat pump, and most likely you can wire the pump and salt system on to the same breaker and that would be a 30 amp breaker.

A  Answered on 9/13/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Johnny, As long as you are in a somewhat of a mild location temperature wise than this heat pump would be able to maintain this temperature from May - September.

?     Asked on 5/4/2017 by Matt

My pool is 36,000 gallons and I currently have a 400,000 BTU Raypak propane heater. I can check the dimensions and see if this Heat Pump is sufficient for the pool. You mentioned that this only heats the water when the pool pump is on (which makes sense). I have a variable speed pool pump, does my pool pump have to be running at max speed...3450, to run this heat pump? Under normal use, I run the pool pump at 2650, would this heat pump operate at that setting?

A  Answered on 5/4/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

Do you have the distance from your pump to your skimmers so I can calculate the flow rate to see if that flow rate will be adequate for that heat pump?

Hi I have a Raypak RP 2100 gas heater which I want to replace with Raypak Standard 133K BTU Digital Heat Pump. My question is the replacement be good enough size. Can I use the same electrical wiring as the RP2100 and How much space do I need for the heat pump, the space available is 4x4 would that be enough space.

A  Answered on 3/24/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, This is the largest heat pump Raypak has. It's large enough fo heat most residential pools but to be sure we'll need the surface area of your pool. This unit requires a dedicated 60 amp 230 volt breaker so the electrical would haveto be upgraded. The unit can be placed on a 4'x4' pad but installation requirements can be found on page 7 & 8 of the Raypak Heat Pump Owner & Installation Manual.

A  Answered on 3/2/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

I would recommend a heat pump. It is electric and is going to be the most cost efficient. Heat pump will initially take a day or two to heat up but once it is heated the heat pump regulates the temperature that you have it set at and will only turn on when it drops below that temperature and only when the pool pump is circulating. I can help you select the correct size, I just need to know how many gallons the pool is, the distance from the pool pump to the skimmers, and what state you are located in.

What is the warranty on the R8350 Ti-E & the R 8350 Ti-E-HC? There seems to be a 20 to 25% difference in price. What am I getting for the premium??

A  Answered on 1/16/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Hello Dave- The warranty information can be found by clicking here. In short it is 2 years parts and labor, 7 years on parts, and the titanium component of the heat exchanger is warrantied for 10 years (if installed by a professional pool installer). The price difference for the R8350Ti-E-HC is because that is a Heat and Cool model, not just a heat pump like the R8350TI-E.

We have a 135,000 gal community pool with (2) Raypak Model C-R406A-EN-X ASME natural gas heaters. If it is time to replace them, could we use (2) heat pump heaters and if yes, which model would you recommend? We keep the pool at 82 degrees. It's located in Lafayette CA where the avg daily temp during the coldest swimming month is 62 and the warmest is 72 degrees. A solar cover is not feasible. Your advice is most welcome.

A  Answered on 9/29/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

I would stick with the heaters. You would literally have to run those heat pumps non-stop for a pool that size. For a pool that size you would need 3-4 heat pumps to maintain that temperature. I would stay with the two heaters or go with one heater that will be able to handle the whole pool. That would be the Power Max, model number PM0750NACC2PXN or PM1000NACC2PXN. Either of these models will be the most efficient way to heat that size of pool.

Hello Chris, The delivery service will deliver the heat pump to the curbside. You would need to arrange with the delivery service to have the Heat Pump moved to the final location when scheduling the delivery. They may charge an additional fee for transporting the heat pump and payment would be arranged through that specific carrier, not related with InyoPools.

Under the "Warrenty Exclusions" section what does the statement "This limited Warrenty does NOT apply" Is there a Warrenty if so what is it?

A  Answered on 3/18/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Bob- Where it says "Warranty Exclusions" and then goes on to say "This Limited Warranty Does NOT Apply" it then goes on and lists reasons that would void the warranty or are not covered under warranty. The warranty on this heat pump, per Raypak, is as follow: If the Heater is installed in a single-family residential dwelling, the Applicable Warranty Periods are: two (2) years for labor and seven (7) years for parts, with no labor coverage in the third through seventh years. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the titanium tube component of the titanium heat exchanger is warranted for 10 years from the Effective Date, with no labor coverage in the third through tenth years. If the Heater is installed anywhere other than a single-family residential dwelling, the Applicable Warranty Period for the Heater and its parts is limited to only one (1) year, parts and labor.

Val, The difference between the R8350TI-E-HC Raypak Standard 133K BTU Digital Heat Pump W/ Chiller and the R8350TI-E Raypak Standard 133K BTU Digital Heat Pump is that the R8350TI-E-HC has a chiller so it can cool the pool in the warmer months whereas the R8350TI is just a heater.

Hi, does this model have a reversing valve for power defrost? Thanks

A  Answered on 2/10/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Megan C.

Hello, Will. The Raypack R8350TI-E does not have a reversing valve for power defrost. If offers Power Frost that Allows the heat pump to operate in colder weather by keeping the heat exchanger tubes from developing frost.  When the air temp drops below about 45F, the unit will shut down because there isn't enough heat in the air to allow for productive operation. Raypak does offer model PS9350ti with Rapid Defrost. Areas that are subject to lower ambient temperatures have a tendency to cause ice to build up on a heat pump's condensing coil. The Professional heat pump uses a patented refrigerant management system to rapidly defrost the heater. (The PS9350ti) currently is a Special Order item.

Bought this unit to heat our 28000 gallon inground pool.

The user/installation manual was easy to follow. If you are comfortable gluing up PVC pipe and can correctly wire up a 220vac supply to the unit, you will not have any problems. My programming of the unit was very simple, since I was not trying to control any pumps or auxiliary equipment from the unit. However the manual gives detailed instructions on how to add these items.

We live in Tennessee so I'm hoping we will be able to use our pool through late September early October. was great to work with. After the order was placed they discovered they were out of stock on a flow meter I had ordered for this install. They called me and told me the issue, then recommended a replacement that was a little cheaper price, which was great. Everything arrived on time without any problems. I will definitely order from them again.
