I'm building so much pressure that when the pump shuts off,it blows back out the skimmer and then loses it's prime.

I replaced my spider gasket. When screwing multiport back together it seemed very tight (gasket might be too thick). Now my filter gauge is reading a very high pressure. I backwash and it soon gets high again. Is this related to the new gasket?
Reply
Hi, Phil. The issue that you're experiencing is not related to the new gasket.

Hello
If the spider gasket was worn out could DE leak by into pool. Thinking DE is going into pool?
Thanks
Reply
No typically not.I would check the grids and manifold for a tear or crack.
Reply
NO, usually your grid, fingers have tears inthem and need replacement
Reply
Yes, a worn spider gasket could cause de to leak into the pool
Reply
More likely there is a tear in the fabric of the filter element.

I replaced my Multi Function Valve last fall. When I try to vacuum my pool to waste, it will not work. Bypass and all the other functions are completely fine. What am I doing wrong?
Reply
Hi, Jean. The issue could be that the water level drops too low when vacuuming to waste or you're losing suction.

I have a 2003 Pentair SM-20-3 valve. When in filter mode water is coming out the discharge pipe. Does not fill the sight gless, but enough to see the flow. Valve appears to be working, except for this. Could it just be the diverter gasket or would I need to replace the valve too?

We would actually need the model of that multiport in order to cross reference the gasket for that valve. You can call in with that or if you are not sure you can email us images of that valve through our support request page.

In the gasket installation video after the gentleman glues the gasket down he lubes it with something but doesn't say what. Is that a step that can be skipped? If not, what does he use?

In this video, the technician is using magic lube used on o-rings and gaskets. Some people use that on these gaskets and some do not. It doesn't hurt to use it.

Good Day Eduard. Given the model of the valve and the number for the gasket, those are a correct match. As for putting it in wrong, that is indeed a possibility. This is a link to How to Replace a Spider Gasket on a Multiport Valve from our site. Please take a look, perhaps something was missed.

Screwdriver, Pliers
Our Jacuzzi sand filter is about 15 years old. The backwash (waste) was leaking so we checked the spider gasket (star gasket).
Check gasket in the key assembly on top of the pool sand filter:
*power off
*release air tight seal(I opened the pump skimmer basket to release air pressure.)
*unscrew key assembly
*spider gasket is set inside, it seals the key assembly to the filter.
*the worn gasket was so old it looked like tar. It did not come out in one piece. It took an hour of scraping the channel with a screw driver and pliers to clean the channel to seat a new gasket.
*our local pool supply gave us a standard gasket and it was too small.
*we ordered from INYOpools because they displayed the actual measurements, so we knew we had the right part.
*no local *professionals* were willing to replace the gasket (too much labor cleaning the channel and more profit ordering a new complete sand filter).
*so for $13, our pool is up and running perfectly with a simple spider gasket
Less than 1 hr
Screwdriver, Socket Set, Blade to scrape old gasket .

This was an exact fit and completely solved our issue of a water leak. We thought we had a crack and all it was is this original gasket was dried out and cracked which allowed water to bypass the selected position and pump water out our drain hose and we didn’t even know bc it is hard plumbed 150 yards downhill from our pump. Thanks INYo!

(5 out of 5 stars) Gasket installation

Pros: Easy fix
Cons: Glueing the gasket into the seat area. Messy
The gasket installation is pretty straight forward. It is a MUST to completely dry the gasket seating surface. Drain the water from the valve and use an adhesive to secure the gasket to the valve. Without adhesive, the gasket will pop out and the valve will leak, no matter what position you place it in. My works like charm.
