I recently changed my pool motor and gaskets. I made sure to lubricate all the gaskets with vaseline. A few days later water is leaking from the pump. What did I do wrong? Help please!!

You never want to use vaseline on any rubber gaskets or o-rings. Vaseline is petroleum based and will deteriorate the rubber quickly. Whenever you change the motor on a pool pump it is recommended that you replace the gaskets and shaft seal as well. A >Go-kit contains the shaft seal, packet of non-petroleum based lubricant and gaskets you will need for your pump. If you already have the gaskets, you can purchase >Magic Lube.

My pump is not priming even after cleaning impeller. Will purchasing this kit aid in fixing that problem?

The seal kit can help with loss of prime. I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem. The loss of prime could be from an air leak at the valves or plumbing in front of the pump.

how do I know if sp4020x252ns is pre-2003 pump. I have the serial #62CB33

I have a Hayward Northstar sp4010ns pump, not sure if it is pre- 2003 or not as the pool was installed in early 2004. Would this seal kit work?

Yes, the GOKIT66 would be the correct seal kit for the Northstar before 2007.

Hi Mike, no this kit will not work for a 2007 Northstar. You would require this Hayward Northstar Shaft Seal and this Hayward NorthStar Housing Gasket

Hi I have a Northstar SP4020NS Serial #630A34 A. The pump motor is a two hp Century. I’m not sure of manufacturing year. The shaft seal that comes in the GO KIT66 has a larger inside diameter than the motor shaft so it doesn’t fit properly. Is this the wrong seal? What seal kit do I need?

Ray, The GOKIT66 will only fit NorthStar pumps that were manufactured in a specific date range. To ensure you are getting the correct shaft seal, you will need to order the impeller kit which comes with the shaft seal.

My Impeller has a part number stamped on it "SP4010C". The Shaft seal with the spring fits on it real loose. The Diameter of the Shaft seal with the spring is bigger than the shaft. Should the Shaft seal with the spring on it be snug on Shaft? I was told that "GO-KIT66" was the kit to use.

Hi. The Shaft Seal Assy can fit loose on the motor shaft. Oce the impeller is on it will compress the spring shaft seal making it water tight.

I believe that serial number says it was manufactured in June '07. I would need a picture of the whole housing to confirm if that is correct.

Hello. The Hayward NorthStar model SP4020X25NS cross-references to the model years 2008 - current. The GOKIT66 is compatible with the NorthStar model years prior to 2003. Attached please find an exploded parts diagram for the Hayward NorthStar model years 2008 - current. Please compare the Pump Housing shape of the diagram to your NorthStar. If they match, part Keys 5, 8, 11, and 13 would be the parts necessary to complete the motor replacement. Hayward NorthStar SP4000 Series Pump (2008-Current)
