I have an above ground pool and I've been told that I need to use an air pillow underneath my winter pool cover. What does the air pillow do?

An air pillow helps to attract freezing water as it expands and relieves the pool walls from the stress of water expansion.Air pillows also help reduce excess water, leaves, debris and snow on your winter cover.

Every year we use the pillows under our cover and every year some of them deflate even thought the plugs are closed tightly. How can we prevent this from happening. It seems like money wasted if they are not going to stay inflated. Should we duct tape the plugs shut?

Hello, Lori. Sorry to hear about the difficulties with the Air Pillow. Make sure you haven't over inflated the pillow. Inflate the pillow to only 60% to 80% of its capacity to allow for compression and center the pillow in the middle of the pool.

Hi Martha, many people use air pillows even if the water does not freeze as the pillow also lifts the cover in the center which assists in draining any water from pooling on the cover. So you don't have to have the air pillow but it may prolong the life of the cover.

Hi. There is not really a specific size pillow for a specific size pool. A 4' x 4' Pillow is okay to be used with a 24' Round pool.

Hello, for your size of pool, you would want one 4x15 air pillow; for most above ground pools, just one appropriately sized pool pillow will work.
