Can I use granular, or must I use 3" tablets or stick?

We recommend using tablets or sticks, and not to use granular with chlorinators.

Is there a feedback mechanism that tells the unit the chlorine balance in the pool? Is this a way for me to automate addition of clorine to keep it always at the correct level? Or, just another place to put the tab aside from the the drain basket?
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/10/2007 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

There is a dial on this unit which has a setting from 1-10 If you set the dial on 1 it will be letting the least amount of chlorine to the pool and if you have it set at 10 this would send the most amount of chlorine to the pool. So you can automate the feed of chlorine to the pool but you will still need to manually test your water. We do not recommend placing tablets in the skimmer basket because this high concentration of chlorine goes directly back to your pump and can cause corrosion to your pool equipment. If you do not go with the automatic chlorinator we would recommend at least going with one of our floating chlorinators so you do not damage your equipment you may view our floating chlorinators here http://www.inyopools.com/chlorinators_floating.aspx

Does the in-line chlorinator come with a check valve, or must it be purchased separately?
 Reply

No this does not come with the check valve. We would highly reccommend purchasing one of the check valves listed on this page http://www.inyopools.com/valves_flo_check.aspx

How do I determine if the CL100 is the proper size chlorinator for my pool?
 Reply

A  Answered on 11/21/2007 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The Hayward CL100 or CL110 chlorinator will provide enough chlorine for up to 18,000 gallons of water.  If the volume of your pool is greater than this, you would need the CL200 or CL220 model which is for pools up to 40,000 gallons.  For pools above 40,000 gallons, you would use multiple chlorinators.  For example, if you have 60,000 gallons then you would use two CL200 or CL220 chlorinators.

What is the difference between an inline and offline chlorinator?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/30/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

An inline chlorinator would be plumbed directly inline with the plumbing.  For an existing pool, this would mean a section of pipe would need to be cut out to install the chlorinator.  An offline chlorinator attaches to existing plumbing by chlorinator tubing (holes would be drilled into existing pipe to attach the tubing.)

After two normal seasons of operating fine, all of a sudden the inside of my Hayward 300 chlorinator is turning black. What could be the cause of this? And what could I do to fix this?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/15/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

If the water feels slightly greasy to the touch, it could mean that the chlorinator has turned black due to an excess of iron and manganese in the water. I would suggest checking the composition of your water at your local pool store or supply company. They should be able to tell you whether or not the pH and total alkalinity are in balance with one another.

My CL 100/200 Chlorinator is not chlorinating my pool; this is the 3rd year of operation. I remove it every winter. Is there there a cleaning process?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/15/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

The safest way to clean out a chlorinatior is to boil some water and pour it down the chlorinatior. If that doesn't solve your problem the check valve may need to be replaced.

Yes the dial can be seen here. You can always use less chlorine tablets for the time being as well until the chlorine level lowers some.

i'm trying to find and an automatic chlorine feeder for my above ground Intex pool rated at 4,000 gal, which has an intex sand filter and pump unit with all 1 1/2 flexible hoses, so could this install inline after the sand filter using the same hose connections that intex uses for their hoses? if not, then what chlorinator would work without it being installed off line since all my hoses are flexible 1 1/2" hoses and can not be drilled or attached to properly.

A  Answered on 6/19/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi Steven, The 4.2lb In Line Chemical Feeder is what is recommended to you with your system if you have a 1-1/2" thread port on your sand filter.

Yes, you can use bromine tablets in the Hayward CL100. It may be ideal to use a larger chemical feeder, based on the design flow rate of your pump. Flow Ratings: (GPM = Gallons Per Minute) CL100 - Used with pumps with flow rating of 30-50 GPM CL200 - Used with pumps with flow rating of 50-80 GPM CL2002S - Used with pumps with flow rating of 50-90 GPM CL110 - Used with pumps with flow rating of 30-50 GPM CL220 - Used with pumps with flow rating of 50-90 GPM

I am moving my Hayward CL 100 Chlorinator between the heat pump and return of water to pool. Do I need a check valve installed at beginning of unit where pvc pipe comes to Chlorinator or does the CL 100 have it built in? It will be below water level and almost on the ground. How should I install this and can you send me instructions to help with this?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/18/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

It is definitely recommended to place a check valve between the heat pump and chlorinator. Being that these chlorinators are not all installed in the same application the only installation instructions would be what the manufacturer provides in the manual that you can view here
