What is the difference between an Electronic and Millivolt ignition?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/10/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

There are specific venting requirements and clearance distances that must be met to ensure proper operation. Consult the owner’s manual for exact specifications for your model of heater.NOTE: Gas fired heaters should be diagnosed and repaired by trained personnel.

Can you use the H100ID1 Hayward pool heater on a salt water pool?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/16/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

The H100ID1 can be used on a salt water pool. However, we would recommend a unit with a cupro-nickel heat exchanger. The cupro-nickel heat exchanger is much more durable than the copper exchanger used in the H100ID1. The H150FDN has a cupro-nickel exchanger and would be better suited for salt water.

Does this heater hook up to a normal sized pool hose or do I need to buy adapters to change size?
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/1/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Dennis R.

This heater now has 2" couplings for the piping. If your pool piping has 1 1/2" piping, you will need to buy 2" to 1 1/2" adapters.

What size pool will this heat? I have a 18 x 33 above ground.
 Reply

A  Answered on 7/6/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Dennis R.

Your selection of heater size depends on many factors but primarily on how fast you want to heat your pool. This 100,000 BTU heater would raise the temperature of your 15,000 gallon pool roughly 3/4 degree per hour.

My heater will not click on in the morning. I turn the on-off switch OFF at night. Should I leave it in the on position and just turn down the heat button all the way.

A  Answered on 7/24/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, It's better to use the On/Off Switch when the heater is not being used. You will have to investigate the cause of why the heater is not turning on. The Hayward Heaters Above Ground Manual has a few troubleshoot tips you can try.

Hi, You can but it will be pointless because you will need to add another filtration system to filter the water going into the heater.

I have been told by dealers not to heat my pool because the internal components deteriorate quickly, within a year to year and a a half, if the water Ph and chlorine levels are not perfect 24/7. Is there any validity to this?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/3/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

That is true for saltwater pools. For saltwater pools, I recommend a heater with a cupro-nickel heat exchanger which extremely retards the corrosion factor. With chlorine pools a heater with a regular heat exchanger will last, just depends on amount of use.

Which pool heater will be ideal for use with salt water?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/6/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Hello Manny- For salt water pool applications we highly recommend getting a Cupro-Nickel unit. The Cupro-Nickel heat echangers can take more abuse from minerals than the standard copper tubes. Here is a link to the Hayward units that are Cupro-Nickel. http://www.inyopools.com/heaters_hayward_lownox.aspx

Any reason this can not be used with a 9000 gallon Viking in ground fiberglass pool? Listed as an above ground heater.
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/23/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

You could use that heater, probably will not be too efficient, but you could use it. If you are wanting a natural gas heater I would recommend at least the H150FDN. For a pool, it will be most efficient to get a heat pump, part number HP21004T.

I have this heater in my new semi inground pool. Heater and filter are surrounded by fence and top has mesh, but floats are on top of mesh almost enclosing it. Is this okay for gas exhaust? Its a little stinky when i go in, but still definitely airy and in no way considered totally closed in.

Hi, Mark S. Unfortunately, that is not okay. This unit requires an unobstructed clearance at the top for ventilation purpose.

Are there any restrictions on using this heater in California?
 Reply

A  Answered on 12/10/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Ray. The South Coast Air Quality Management District ( SCAQMD) Area of Jurisdiction REQUIRES a Low Nox Heater be installed.  The following 6 California Counties are affected:  Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Ventura, Orange, Riverside, & Kern. Installing a non-compliant heater in these counties will void the manufacturer's warranty and could result in a fine from your local code enforcement. This unit is not compliant if you're located in one of these counties.
