Based on approximate surface area of the pool and pump strength I would recommend no less than a 150 square foot cartridge filter.

Is the C5030 a direct replacement for the C5520? By that I mean, can I simply unscrew the locknuts on the C5520 and connect the C5030? Also, does the new filter include cartridges?

I have a 18 x 36 x 4.7 avg depth rectangular pool~ 22.8K gallons. I have 2 skimmers..baskets are 29' & 68' from pump. Currently running a 11 yr old sand filter I want to replace, with a 6 year old STAR RITE MAX E PRO 3.0 HP/3.45 SU HP pump. Previous owner over pumped system when replaced pump because it has 4 water returns in pool & 3 water outlets above. What size filter do you recommend with this pool & pump? If I decided to re-pump, what combo filter and pump?

Hi Tom, In regards to the filter bigger is always better and with a 3 HP pump the Hayward C5030 would be what we suggest. If you did decide to swap out the pump then you probably could get by with the 2 HP Max E Pro Pump or a 2 HP PureLine Prime Pump. The PureLine Prime would require a little bit of re-plumbing. We would still suggest the large C5030 filter even you changed out your pump.

Is the C5030 the same thing as the C5025? I'm looking for a generic cartridge and your website says it will fit a C5025 and nothing shows for a C5030.

Hi Eugene, the Hayward Swimclear cartridge filter series would be a good replacement series for the Quantum CM series however you will need to get the specific filter model of yours to match or even exceed filter capacity. I do not see any model labels legible however you can also get the part or model number off of the cartridge themselves to confirm your specific filter model.

Thanks, The pool is approx 16,000 gallons, but I replaced the pump motor last year with an A.O. Smith V-green (2.7 hp). So I have a degree of freedom around the actual filters. Gene

Hi Eugene, understood. Without your current filter model and with free reign essentially you will need to size a new filter. Here is a guide that we put together called "How To Size a Pool Filter" that will assist in calculating that.

Hello Jeffrey, unfortunately Hayward does not sell 1.5 inch unions for this series filter however you can use the 2 inch version being part number 5112-200 and then use the reducer bushing part number 7153-0 to make them plumb to 1.5 inch plumbing.
