For the 5.5KW unit how much water flow is required through the heater(570gph)?
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/29/2006 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The flow should be maintained above 15 GPM (900 GPH).  Failure to do so will cause the pressure switch to drop out, and the heater will become inoperative.

Hi Robert, For a 400 gallon spa the Spapak 5.5KW Electric Spa Heater would be the appropriate size but the Spapak 11KW Electric Spa Heater will heat the spa faster.

What are the electrical requirements for this product? Standard outlet or something more substantial? Also, would this be a sufficient product for an 8,000 gallon above ground pool? Currently my pool is too much in the shade and only gets to about 76 degrees from limited solar blanket exposure. Would like to increase at least 10 degrees. Any idea about cost to increase a pool this size 10-12 degrees as mentioned? Thanks.

Hi Mike, You can find the electrical requirements Raypak SpaPak 552 & 1102 Tech Data Sheet. It has 1-1/2" NPT male connections.  The Spapak Electric Spa Heater / 11 KW would not be suitable for an 8,000 gallon pool. You will need multiple unit or go with the Hayward Heat Pro Heat Pump 50k BTU Digital Display Above Ground Pool.

Hello Steve, you might just need a diagnostic run on it from Raypak 805-278-5300, was it the same model that you had previous or different?

This is our average temperature in the winter time: November (5 C/41 F, -2 C/28 F) ; December (0 C/32 F, -6 C/21 F), January (0 C/32 F, -7 C/19 F), February (3 C/37 F, -5 C/23 F) ; March (9 C/48 F, -2 C/28 F). Could you please tell me how to calculate the electricity consumption ? Thank you tons! Jady

Hi Jady. To calculate how much it will cost to operate this unit you can use the following steps. 01) Amps x Volt = watts 02) Watts / 1000 = kW 03) kW x Hours = Usage 04) Usage x kW rate = Cost

How many gallons is the max to heat?

Hello Robert- This is a spa heater, so there isn't a set size for these heaters. I wouldn't use this on more than a 900 gallon spa.

 Reply

A  Answered on 5/29/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alex V.

John, Both would last the same amount of time. The main this is to closely monitor the chemical levels so that the water is not corrosive to the heater. You can purchase an extra element to keep on hand as a back up.

I have an in-ground pool/spa. I plan to only heat my spa by isolating the spa when using the heater, only circulate water through the spa. My question is when I am not using the spa I plan to have the heater powered down, it would be to expensive to heat the pool. Is it okay to still have water circulating through the heater when it is off? Also is it okay to have no water circulating through it if i plan to have a valve to completely shutoff the heater when not using it. Thank you

Hi, Jared. Yes, its okay to have no water or water circulating through the heater when it's not in use.

Is there an optimal flow rate for this heater? I know 60 is the max, would 60 get the spa up to temp the fastest or would a lower flow rate be more efficient? I have a variable speed pump and an inline flow meter. Therefore I can adjust the flow.

A  Answered on 4/4/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Andy. This unit is designed to heat efficiently with a max flow rate of 60 GPM. The flow switch cannot be adjusted outside 15-60 GPM.

I have a 15,000 gallon in-ground pool. What kind of heat pump would you recommend? Or could I run the Raypak 001640 Spa-Pak 11kw 240V for 24 hours to get the desired temp since its a smaller unit?

A  Answered on 6/13/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Jonathan. We will need additional info in order to size a heat pump for your pool. I will need your city. the desired temperature, run time and the operation months. You can also use the Raypak Heater Sizer. This 11kW heater will not effectively heat your pool.
