What is Service Factor?
 Reply

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

I have a Marquis Spa model 18B3810-C S/N 3040707 240V/60Hz/40A max (or model/SN JM-HI-Y-043166B) and the motor and pump have both failed. I attempted to rebuild the pump but the motor thru bolts were seized and damaged the motor and pump housing in the process of tearing it down. I am in need of a new motor and pump. Can you tell me which options would work for me? The pump is a Hayward SP1520X15UN2H3 S/N 630C23. The motor is a Hayward PowerFlo LX Dual Speed SP1515-Z2-EBK3 S/N 8A93. Thanks!

Hi, Brett. You can use the AquaFlo FMHP Pump - 02115000-1010 or Waterway Hi-Flo Pump - 342061010 as a replacement.

Hi Les, You would actually need this SQS1102R Dual Speed Replacement Motor Please note that the SQS1102R is a 1 HP Full Rate Motor which has the same True HP as your 1.5 HP Up Rate Motor. Here is how the math plays out 1.5 Up Rate HP x 1.1 Service Factor = 1.65 True HP and 1 Full Rate HP x 1.65 Service Factor = 1.65 True HP

Hello Justin. The Hayward 1.5 HP Dual Speed Motor with switch model SPX1515Z2ES is a compatible dual-speed motor for the Hayward PowerFlo Pool Pump.  It is recommended that the motor shaft seal, seal plate gasket, and diffuser o-ring be replaced at the same time.  The GOKIT 74 contains the parts necessary to complete this project.   Tune Up Kit Hayward PowerFlo Matrix Pump - GOKIT74
