For the Marlow 3B28EC-C2 pump, 60 Hz, your ESP online pump selection guide program shows a HP output of 5.6 for a supposedly 5 HP pump and a pump motor size of 5 HP. I'm a bit confused by these numbers. How can a 5 HP motor produce a brake HP of 5.6? The values I imputed were 200 gpm at 57 feet of head. Help!

Hi, John. This is because of the Brake horsepower (BHp) is telling you how hard the motor is operating due to the load on the motor shaft. It is calculated based on how efficient the pump is operating to how much power it uses. The BHp is the true hp of the pump or motor.

How do I determine the correct size motor. We have a 3b series with 7.5 motor. Want to make sure this is correct for the replacement. Our pool is 120,000 gallons.

The 3B 7.5HP is offered is single-phase or 3-phase. If it is a single-phase motor, the Motor, 230v, 1phase 7.5hp Csph (p318) MODEL # 5078-21 is the part number. The three-phase will have voltage listed at 230/460 on the label as to the single-phase will only be 230 Volt. The 7.5 HP Commercial/Industry Pump Single Speed Motor - TCP11006 is the three-phase motor. The shaft seal is Seal, Assy. As-416 (as-416a)
