ALTERNATE PART #'S65005, GO KIT 5

Product Description

Standard tune up kit for the Pentair Challenger pump includes the shaft seal and all o-rings, gaskets and lubricant.

We highly recommend replacing the shaft seal, o-rings and gaskets when replacing your motor.  If you use your old shaft seal, it will not mate up properly with the new motor and may leak.

This Tune Up Kit Works on These Pumps:

  • All Pentair & Pac-Fab Challenger Pumps 1/2 HP - 3 HP single and dual speed models.

Tune Up Kit Includes:

  • Motor Shaft Seal
  • Pump Lid O-Ring
  • Housing Gasket
  • Diffuser Gasket
  • Lubricant

Product FAQs

Q:Do you offer a spacer that could be used to switch from a 56 frame motor to a 48 frame motor? If so what is the part#?

A:There is a rubber spacer included in the packaging with all of our standard 48 frame pool and spa replacement motors.  No other accessory should be required.

Q:Can I replace my 1.5HP motor with a 1HP?

A:Yes. You can downgrade the motor. You will also have to downgrade the impeller, diffuser and eye seal (if applicable) as well.

2/28/2012

Q:My new motor is running hot. What could be wrong?

A:There are several different causes for this. The most common would be improper ventilation, incorrect impeller size or incorrect voltage. for more causes, you can take a look at our >Motor Troubleshooting guide.

Q:Can I replace my single speed motor with a dual speed?

A:In most cases you can switch from a single speed to a dual speed pump motor with no issues. This will depend on the model pump that you currently have. Please note that the motor does not come with a switch. In order to control the high and low speed you would need a timer capable of doing so. If you already have a 220 volt timer then you can purchase a T106R. If you do not have a timer then you would need to purchase a T10604R. It is highly recommended that you purchase the seals and gaskets for the pump when you replace the motor.

Q:I am looking for a replacement motor for my pool pump but all the ratings listed on the label are confusing me. What are the important stats on a motor label I should look for to ensure I'm getting the correct motor?

A:The key points on a label to know to ensure the proper motor selection are the Model number, Part number or Catalog number. If a match of one of these numbers is found, that match is the drop-in replacement for your motor. We also provide a guide on >How to Read a Pool Motor Label

Q:I just installed a brand new motor. It runs fine but it seems that it is running "hotter" than my old one. What would cause that?

A:If the motor is running "hot", you will want to double check the wiring. Most 230/115v pool pump motors are factory preset to 230 volt. If you only have 115 volt, you will need to re-wire the motor using the wiring diagram provided on the motor label. You may also want to check the condition of the cord as well. A cord that looks worn will not be able to produce enough current for the motor to run properly. The cord should be replaced when replacing the motor.

Q:I recently changed my pool motor and gaskets. I made sure to lubricate all the gaskets with vaseline. A few days later water is leaking from the pump. What did I do wrong? Help please!!

A:You never want to use vaseline on any rubber gaskets or o-rings. Vaseline is petroleum based and will deteriorate the rubber quickly. Whenever you change the motor on a pool pump it is recommended that you replace the gaskets and shaft seal as well. A >Go-kit contains the shaft seal, packet of non-petroleum based lubricant and gaskets you will need for your pump. If you already have the gaskets, you can purchase >Magic Lube.

Q:How do I change the motor on my pool pump?

A:Changing the motor on a pool pump is not that difficult. Here's a video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor. In addition to the video you can read our step by step guide here  Make certain that you purchase the correct shaft seal or Gokit to go with your new motor.

Q:I have a leaking pool pump that seems to be getting louder when it turns on. I made sure everything is clear inside of the basket. How do I know it's just the motor? Please help.

A:If you have a leak, it is more than likely caused by a failed shaft seal. Once the shaft seal fails water is able to enter the motor body and cause damage to the bearings. Typically it will cause the motor to run louder than normal and the motor will eventually fail. Your most cost effective option would be to replace the motor and the surrounding seals/gaskets. You can purchase the >shaft seal alone, but it is recommended you purchase a  >GoKit. A Gokit contains the shaft seal, housing gasket, lid gasket, diffuser gasket and non petroleum based lubrication.

Q:I'm trying to replace the motor on my pool pump but all these numbers and abbreviations on the motor label are really confusing me. What do they mean?

A:Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking >here >  >if you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label >here.

Pros: Best value for everything you need

Cons: You will end up with 1-2 extra o-rings you don't need.

This kit is great. The "con" is a very minor nit pick but is a reality since the kit assumes you want to change the o-ring for the filter basket housing where it connects to the pump housing. During a motor or shaft seal replacement you generally will not need to do this but the value of the kit makes up for any downside of an extra o-ring. I highly recommend it.
