Pump Shaft Seal Assembly (OEM) - SP1500KA
I have a Hayward SP1580 Power Flo LX pump. When I replaced the ceramic half of the seal, it doesn't bottom out on the flat ledge in rear of the housing. Lacks approx. 1/8". I covered it with a paper towel and tried tapping lightly on it to seat it fully. It did not move. Is it meant to seal on the side of the housing utilizing the elastomer surface, and not on the bottom flange of the recess in the housing?
Reply
No the seal should bottom out flat. You might need to check for burs in the recess or dirt.

Trying to replace the impeller on my Power Flo Matrix pump. The number on the broken part is SP1500L. The part of the impeller that screws onto the shaft is plastic nipple with a spring on it. The nipple broke off. The part I ordered is SP1500L but has a brass nipple with no spring. What to do?

I bought this kit for my Power Flo Matrix pump. I don't see where the small o-ring or the cup looking part belong. Are these for another pump? The guide does not show these being installed either.

Hi, Nick. The cup is a spacer for the pump shaft seal. The cup is not used with the Matrix pump.

Eric, If the pump is leaking by the on/off switch, it is likely that the shaft seal and water slinger have failed. You can replace both seals but water has gotten inside of the motor and the motor will have to be rebuilt or replaced.

Have a Hayward power-flo matrix pump SP1510-z-1-xesc. When I started the pump up it is making a high pitched noise. The motor doesn't seem to be overly hot to the touch. Could the problem be in the pump seal or the bearings? Pump is working fine but have that constant hum. Appreciate any advice. Thanks

Hi, Keith. The problem is the bearings inside the motor, they are going bad. Replacing the pump seal will not stop the noise.

Pros: Easy install and works great
Cons: It should come with a dab of seal lube
I really like that this seal comes with a new plastic cup to hold the seal in the pump cavity, it certainly makes it easier to install, and you don't have to worry about cleaning up the old cup. The seal fits perfectly and after an hour of time, no more drips from the pump.
