My friend has a 2008 Pentair whisperflow 3/4 Horsepower pump wfe-3 which is having noises from the motor. From the specs, this ao smith motor seems to be the correct replacement alternative to the pentair. Could you please confirm? Also, which gasket kit would be appropriate. Thanks for your advice
Are these normally hot to the touch? Just installed mine an hour ago and it feels very hot.
Yes, these motors run at approximately 140 degrees. If it exceeds normal operating temperature the thermal overload load will cause it to shut down.
This motor appears to be an appropriate replacement for the one on my Jacuzzi pump that services the waterfall feature of my pool. The only difference is that mine does not have the small housing on the top of the motor. I assume this is a capacitor? Will I need a special tool to separate the pump from the motor?
Yes, the hump on the motor is the capacitor housing, going by your pictures; it should not interfere with your install. There is no need for extra tools, following the instruction in this guide and you shouldn't have a problem: How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump.

Need a replacement motor for centurion switchless motor, this motor is old and I only have some info the rest has disappeared, pool and spa duty, hp3/4, type cs, time cont, code j, encl dp, sp 1.25, amps sf5.4/10.8, serial bu3-21, insul class b, hz 60.ph1.
Can you please help me? I think this is the replacement but want to be sure.
Do you have anything for corrosion prevention for the motor. Living on the Gulf of Mexico, the salt even corrodes glass!
Unfortunately, there is nothing we carry to prevent corrosion on the motor. I would recommend a Protective Pool Motor Cover - R221016 to keep the elements off of your motor as much as possible as well as not allowing runoff rainwater from the roof to fall directly on it.
What motor do I need to replace an AO Smith 7-177449-03 3/4 HP. It goes on a Whisper Flo WFE-3 pump.
Hello Carl, it looks like from what your numbers match to is a 3/4 HP Motor EE - Full Rate (B661, B2661) and pump seal Tune Up Kit Pentair/Purex Whisperflo - GOKIT32. Unless you have saltwater then Saltwater Tune Up Kit Pentair/Purex Whisperflo - GOKIT32SALT.
How many capacitors does the AO Smith 3\4 hp B852, B2852 have? Know about the run capacitor on top, but is there a start capacitor in the back of the motor under the electrical cover also? Got a humming, non starting pump motor to repair, any help appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Bob, The B852 motor only has a run capacitor and no start switch. The only thing could be the motor windings.
My old pool label reads A.O.Smith CAT serial CA04-08 Part 7-186236-20 Type CX FR:P56Y, HP---, SF---, PH 1, HZ 60, RPM 3450, Volts 230/115, AMPS 5.4/10.8, Time: CONT, ENCL: DP, FORM: KJM, CODE: N, AMB: 40. It seems like this pump will replace my old one but I wanted to make sure before I purchased this.
Yes that is a correct motor replacement for your current model.
will this fit a challenger pump
Hi, The A.O. Smith 3/4 HP, 56Y Frame, Up-Rate Motor (B852, B2852) will fit a Pentair Challenger Pump. You would also need to confirm that this motor is ok to use with your current Impeller.
How do we remove old pump. Removed all 4 bolts but pump won't disconnect from pool housing.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.
Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.
What is Service Factor?
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Pros: Ease of ordering and speedy delivery.
First time attempting this process. I found INYOpools on a web search as they had the best price for a replacement pump. The pump I was replacing, came with my in ground pool pump system, Wet End, Impeller, etc... As I stated before, this was my first time attempting such a job. When I opened the box I immediately discovered a higher quality pump; identical model and frame number to the failed pump. Attached all components, completed wiring to power, and started pump - it worked! Pump is running quietly and pool is being filtered again. Speedy delivery by INYOpools. I highly recommend shopping with INYOpools.

(3 out of 5 stars) Good when they work

We bought this to replace another one. The first one we had as a backup and when we needed it and it installed it, it just kept overheating every few minutes. Everything was installed correctly and it purred like a kitten. But it would not stop overheating. We installed this new one and it purrs like a kitten, and never overheats. So one in the plus column and one in the minus column. Definitely a good price.
