PureLine Replacement Diverter with Spider Gasket for Hayward SP0714T Valve
This is the PureLine Replacement Diverter and Spider Gasket for the Hayward SP0714T Valve. Normally when you start to see leaking from your backwash port this is a sign that your spider gasket has gone bad and this valve diverter assembly needs to be replaced.
This Diverter assembly includes the diveter with the 4-spoke spider gasket glued in and is used on the Hayward Multiport VariFlo XL 1.5" valve. The model number for the valve is SP714T, also listed as SP0714T. The valve is used on various Hayward top mount sand filters. The spider gasket is not available separately and can only be purchased as part of this diverter assembly. This is an After-Market part and not the O.E.M original by Hayward.

I have a Hayward sand filter S220T w/ SP0714T valve, I am getting sand in the pool, about a 1 cup a few days after cleaning the pool. Will replacing the Diverter Valve and gasket solve the problem ? If not, what do you recommend ?
(the replacement diverter valve doesn't come with the o-rings ?)
Thank you !

Hi Eric, this is the correct diverter w/ spider gasket for the Hayward multiport valve model SP0714T. Here is a guide that we put together called "Sand in Your Pool?" that may also offer some tips as to what else might be causing this issue.

Does this part come with the O rings that go around the shaft of this diverter ?
Reply
Does this include new O rings and the plastic thing on the shaft that the spring fits over ?
Reply
Hi Tony, this diverter does not include those parts. You would need the upper handle assembly to have all of those parts.

My backwash is leaking and I believe I need a new spider gasket. The model number is SP0714G11M. Can you refer the correct part for that valve please?

It looks like I have a SP0714T1 valve. After backwashing, the water continue to leaks from my drain hose. Can you suggest the proper repair? A couple of pics are attached.
Hi Dennis, this diverter w/ gasket is most commonly the issue to repair that leak on the Hayward Variflo valve model SP0714T. Here is a guide that we put together for replacing a spider gasket that may also assist.

The model number of my valve is SP714, i.e., not "T" at the end. Will this still work?
Hi Robert, yes this is compatible with the Hayward Vari Flo multiport valve. The "T" is merely one of a few alternate part numbers for the same multiport valve.

do you not sell the spyder gasket without bying the whole top portion ?
Reply
Hi Robert, unfortunately for this particular Hayward model multiport valve the spider gasket is not sold separately.

When I vacuum I get debris (algae) pumping back into my pool. Also when I backwash, it’s hard to stop water from coming out of the backwash valve. Any suggestions? I have a Hayward SP0714T1 filter.

Hi Eddie, What you have explained is normally a sign of a bad spider gasket within your valve and we would suggest the replacement diverter with spider gasket on this page to fix your issue.

I have Hayward sand filter S210T, with the multi valve SP714A, does your item work with my unit? The pools store tells me that Hayward replacement option is to replace the entire valve unit. I assume this can be used instead? is it best to replace the entire top portion or just buy the diverter with new spider seal?
Would it be better to buy the valve

Hi! I have water trickling out the backwash hose when filtering, actually it's tricking all the time. Backwash mode still works . Do I need a spider valve? SP0714G11M I'm having trouble finding anything for the pump number. Can you please help me?
Hi, Desiree. This is the correct replacement part for your model valve that will resolve the issue that you're having.

It appears that we need to replace the Key Assembly because water is leaking out of the backwash when in filter mode. The backwash feature is also not working -the water is just trickling out rather than the usual forceful push of water that comes out. Could this all be caused by the same problem? I'm hoping the key assembly replacement will fix both. The pump was only used for 2 seasons (about 8 months total) and the gasket doesn't look to be in bad shape -is this a normal time to replace it?
Hi, Marie. The issue can be caused by the same issue if the water is not flowing through the valve properly.

I have Sta-Rite sand filter. (model T-240BP-1) Just replaced only the top portion of the key assembly with Hayward Vari-Flo Valve. I see no model #. Worked for couple days and now key is stuck on Filter. Can push leaver down, but cannot move to other functions. So believe I need to replace the bottom housing with glued in gasket. Is this the correct part?? Thanks.
Reply
Hi Tom, No this is not the correct replacement for your Sta-Rite model T-240BP-1 You will need this Sta-Rite Diverter with Spider Gasket or you could go with the entire Sta-Rite Upper Valve Assembly with Diverter & Spider Gasket. Here is the parts breakdown for the Sta-Rite Crystal Flo Valve

i am getting sand in my pool after running the pump. I have emptied the sand from the filter and inspected the laterals and center pipe and no noticeable damage that i can see. I put new sand in and backwashed and rinsed a few times. ran the filter again and sand is still entering the pool. can any part of the multi port valve assembly cause this? its's a hayward vari-flo xl, not sure of exact model. S166T sand filter.
Reply
Yes, the spider gasket failing can cause this issue and this assembly would be the correct part for replacing that gasket. You may want to inspect it first. It may need to reset.

When running my filter it is leaking water underneath the top handle assembly. the only model number i can see is SP714-A. what part do i order to remedy this leak?

For a leaking valve, it could be the spider gasket, body oring, one of the flat washers. I would recommend changing Key,cover And Handle Assembly (spx0714ba)

Hello based off the information provided yes you will need to replace the Key/seal Assembly (Diffuser w/ Gasket Glued In) (spx0714ca) inside your valve. One of the gaskets chambers seems to be worn and not making a perfect seal.

I have an S210T2 with an SP0714T. It's started leaking out of the backwash port on any setting of the top mount (including closed). I've noticed the handle has a lot of play (I don't remember that from last year). I'm assuming SPX0714CA needs to be replaced, but what about spring/gaskets/rings? Suggested to replace the lot of them?

Hi Craik, I would suggest this Hayward SPX714BA Complete Handle Assembly this will include the springs, handle, diverter and gaskets. Basically, everything that may be causing your issue.

my hayward sand filter model S 166 T water is coming out of both the return port and backwash port when on . WHY?
Reply
Hi, Ken. That's an indication that the diverter gasket is bad and will need to be replaced. The ports are not sealing allowing water to flow to other ports of the valve.

How I know that the gasket is not OK and a replacement is needed?

Hi, Jorge. You will experience signs of the valve being hard to turn, sand getting back into the pool, water leaking out of the waste port when in filtration mode. Inspecting the gasket will be the best way to find out if its bad.
