If I'm using this pump and my pool is about 17,500 gallons with 6 ft in the deep end and 3 ft in the shallow end, how many hours a day do I need to run my pump? My GPM is 36.

A  Answered on 6/4/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Lydia. You will need to provide us with the model of the pump housing and the Total Dynamic Head (TDH)  of your pool in order for us to calculate the pump flow.

This looks like same pump. What seals do I need?

A  Answered on 5/18/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, T DiCarlo. This is the correct replacement motor. However, the seals are specific to the pump housing.

I have a B228S ( I can't tell if there was another letter after the S on the label) motor with a U56J frame. Is there a difference in a 56J frame and a U56J frame?

A  Answered on 10/19/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Wayne. Yes, it appears that the "E" is missing from your model. There is no difference between a 56J and U56J frame.

Two years ago we had our pool motor (B228SE) replaced. During the beginning of May of this year we turned on the filter system to get the pool ready for summer. At the Beginning of June the motor started to make a lot of noise but it still ran. Our neighbors complained about the nose so we had it replaced again. The first motor lasted about 7 years. The resent replacement lasted two seasons of 6 months each. How long should your motors last?

A  Answered on 6/28/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

These motors are original A.O. Smith/Century motors and average a life expectancy of approximately 3-7 years. There may be other variables that contribute to a motor failing prematurely. You may want to have a technician inspect the system to see if there are other factors involved.

Is this an actual AO Smith B228SE Century Centurion motor? Is it a rebuild? If so, what is the warranty?

A  Answered on 6/7/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Yes, this is an actual A.O. Smith Century motor. Please view the warranty card here.

I bought a B228SE motor last year and this after trying to oprn my pool the motor runs for about 10 minutes and shuts off. Motor appears to over heat.

A  Answered on 5/29/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

It is possible that the impeller that you are using with the motor is rated for a higher horse power one. This would be a heavier design and can be straining the motor. Please confirm the part number on the impeller is the one needed to be used with that motor.

Hi ...I bought 5211X from you last year and it was fine, but it will not start this year. It turns freely by hand ... I replaced hot wires coming from switch .... it is getting power (used voltage detector to confirm) .... no hum or anything ... I switched the capacitor from an old pump with same results ... nothing helps ... any ideas I could try? ....... Thanks ... Jay

A  Answered on 4/17/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Jay. Based on your description of what you have done, it sounds like the motor is dead.

I have an older Hayward pump. Don't see any numbers on it , but looks similar to Hayward SP2610X15 . What seal kit would I need to use with this motor replacement?

A  Answered on 3/24/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi Glenn, If your pump looks similar to the Hayward SP2610X15, you will need p/n GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT. If you send us photos of the pump to upload@inyopools.com we can confirm which pump you have.

If using this product, and needing to replace the seals. What seal kit do I need to get for the product.

A  Answered on 3/8/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Hello Stephanie, The seals that will be used with the 5211x Motor 56j Thrd Up 1 Hp (b228se) would be determined by the model of your pump. Do you know what the model of your pump is?

What is Service Factor?

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.
