if i change seal plate 5074-18a from my 56y frame motor , with seal plate 5074-38 of a 48y frame, on my existing WF-12 pump housing, can I then add variable speed motor ECM27SQU and have everything else line up?
how does the seal plate come off after you have disconeted the pump
Hello, Richard. You will need to remove the diffuser cover and impeller first. I have included a link on How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump http://www.inyopools.com/HowToPage/how_to_replace_the_motor_on_your_pool_pump.aspx The link is not specific to the Whisperflo, though, it will provide a general overview on how remove the parts.
Do you know what the torque specs are for the bolts? The previous one was had broken around the nut well do to overtightening. Thanks
I would recommend contacting Pentair at 1-800-831-7133. Unfortunately we do not have the information to properly answer your question.
I have an older model whisper flo wf 4,,,and it runs my pop ups,,not my filter,,and it is leaking water at the bottom of the seal plate,,new gaskets did not help ,,maybe my seal plate flange is warped from overtightening,,I doubt if the housing is warped will this item fit my pump??
Hi Ron, The WFE Seal Plate (074564) will work with your older model WF-4 Pump.
1 to 2 hrs
Screwdriver, Socket Set, Wrench Set
First the new ceramic seal is pressed into the pump impeller. Then the matching seal is pressed into the seal plate. New seal plate attaches to motor with four bolts that engage metal threaded inserts (these were corroded and wobbly in the old replaced seal plate).
Impeller is screwed into the motor shaft (holding shaft steady with small wrench). Then reverse threaded bolt is screwed onto tip of motor shaft (don't forget O-ring). Finally, use hex tool to attach water distributor to motor seal plate.
(5 out of 5 stars) Seal Plate Replacement

Pros: Easy to install except for new gasket.
Cons: Challending to install gasket.
Replace my 5-year old unit because the center was scraped by the pump as a result of pump mis-alignment due to mount corrosion. Seal Plate was not exactly the same, but because there is additional space in the motor mount housing, it fits just fine. A bit leary at first, but once bolted up, everything lined right up and fit good. No leaks and now pump runs very quiet. The gasket is a bit of a chor to put on. I recommend Vasoline and two butter knives. Install the gasket, the mount the plate loosely. Gradually tighten bolts but use the butter knives to ensure the gasket is seating properly and not being pinched.

Just a reminder that you also need to purchase a pump seal. If you are taking your pump apart, half the seal is in this seal plate and half is in the impeller. So the pump seal is a separate item even though it is attached to the seal plate on your existing pump
