I was told last year that the entire fixture and wiring needed to be replaced. I think it was going to cost about $125.00 to repair. How would I verify that I do need to replace everything?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/6/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Scott. You will have to inspect the fixture for leaks, corrosion, test the fixture for electrical issues etc. If the fixture is really old then that's also a sign that is should be replaced when upgrading to an LED bulb.

Yes, you can use one of the 12V 18, or 35-watt Purecolor LED bulbs or even the V2 PurecolorLED bulb s that you can view by clicking here. As long as you use a 12V then either 18 or 35 watts would work. 35 being brighter.

I have two bulbs 12 V 300 Watts in my swimming pool and I would like to replace by led. If I believe that I will save energy, I am not sure I will save a lot as predicted by ads because we pass by a current transformer 220 / 12 volts. May be with the price of our led, it starts to be profitable.
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/14/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Andre, A standard 300W incandescent bulb x 8hrs x 365 days = 876 KWh /yr at $.15/KWh = $131/yr where an 18W LED Bulb x 8hrs x 365 days = 116 KWh / yr at $.15/KWh = $17/yr so you would save roughly $114/yr

The third says 'Pool Star' and while it appears to be the same size, it is obviously not the same as the other two. Will the LED bulbs work on a Pool Star light? Thanks.

A  Answered on 6/20/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi, We have not confirmed that the PL5815 fits in a Pool Star light fixture, the main question would be if the bulb can fit inside the housing if it will then yes this is a suitable replacement. If you like you can order one to see if it will fit and if it does not then you may return within 30 days in new and unused condition.

This 18 watt version does not have a remote option but the model PL5818 which is the 35 watt version does. The remote gives the ability to change from color to color and color light shows. Also the gasket does not come with the bulbs and will depend on the model that you have. These bulbs are compatible with the Pentair Amerlite, the Hayward Astrolite and the Jacuzzi Full Moon models.

Good morning Raymond, Yes, This would be a great replacement. LEDS are way more energy efficient and last longer. You are burning less watts and you will receive a 2 year warranty on the bulb. I would recommend changing the lens gasket at the time of install.

For the 500w light system, I would recommend the LED Pool Bulb Color Changing 12V 35W - PL5808 for a 12v or the LED Pool Bulb Color Changing 120V 35W - PL5809 for the 120v. Please keep in mind that these bulbs are compatible with the Hayward Astrolite SP058 series light fixture (or pentair Amerlight 784 series) ONLY!!

Also we have noticed sometimes when we put the switch to turn the light on it doesn't always go on and have to turn it off and on we have check there doesn't seem to be in loose wires in beside the switch any ideas? Thank you Yvonne

A  Answered on 6/5/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Yvonne, Were you able to find the voltage on your light is 12V or 120V? If it is 120V then you can try the old bulb in a standard light fixture to see if you get the intermittent light turning on? If you don't get this issue on the household light fixture then you may need to replace your complete light fixture.

Sorry this is probably a stupid question, I just just purchased a new home in Kissimmee and it has a pool with white light I would like to change it to the a color changing light but some told me I would need a transformer. My white bulb is still working so can't say what bulb I have at the moment. Yvonne
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/4/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Yvonne, The easiest way to tell which which voltage you have is to remove the bulb from your fixture and the voltage should be noted on the light bulb itself. We have a Guide on How to Replace a Pool Light Bulb that will show you how to do this. Also if you have a 12V light you should see a transformer which looks like the PX300 Transformer. If you have 120V lighting then you will not have a transformer and would require the 120V Pure Colors LED Bulb.

A  Answered on 5/10/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The best bet would be to remove the light fixture from the niche in the wall of the pool. To do this you will turn off the breaker to the light then get in the swimming pool and remove the pilot screw at the top of the light face ring. This will then free the light from the wall of the pool and you can bring the light fixture up onto your deck. There should be a label on the light housing which will give you the manufacture and model # of your light. If this information has worn off then you can check your dimensions against the Pentair Amerilite Dimensions or the Hayward Astrolite Dimensions and if they match up then this bulb will fit. The voltage information should be on the light housing but if it has worn off then you can remove the bulb from inside the light fixture and the voltage information should be right on the light bulb.

Yes the Pure Colors Bulb can be used to cycle colors with a timer and it does have memory so if the light is turned off for more than 20 seconds then the next time the light is turned on the light will remember the last color show it was on.

Would this type of bulb be sufficient to supply fiberoptic cable for lighting inyo waterfall feature.?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/8/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Mike Unfortunately this would not be the correct item to light up a waterfall, since waterfalls are located above the waterline and this item is located underneath the water. If you pointed this bulb up towards the waterline the light dispersement stops at the waterline, we would suggest a LED Waterfall which has the LED lighting integrated into the waterfall.

How do you change the colors and light show effects? Does it come with a remote control or an app you can control with your phone?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/8/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Deanna, The changing of the colors is done by simply turning the power on and off to the light, normally the pool light is tied to a light switch so it is just a matter of flipping the light switch on and off to cycle to the next color or color show. There is not an app available at this time to control the bulb through a phone.

Would this be the proper bulb to replace a 12v 100 watt bulb
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/7/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi RC, If your bulb is a screw in style bulb and the bulb measures roughly 5 inches to 6 inches wide then this would be the correct replacement for a 12V 100 watt bulb. If you have a smaller 100 watt spa light which has a bulb that measures roughly 2-1/2 inches across then this would not be the correct light. A few other measurements which may help.... normally this bulb goes into a pool light fixture where the face ring of the pool light fixture measures roughly 10 inches across. If you have a spa light fixture where the face ring measures roughly 5 inches across then this would not be the correct bulb. I hope that helps!

 Reply

A  Answered on 4/7/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes the light can be stopped on a color there are 7 fixed colors white, red, green, blue, gold, cyan and violet. You would cycle to the fixed colors by flipping your pool light switch relatively quickly. In addition to the fixed colors there are 9 color shows..... Evening Sea (slow animation of blue and red), Evening rivers (slow animation of green and red), Riviera (slow animation of blue and green, Rainbow (slow animation of all colors), River of Colors (slow animation of all colors followed by Four Seasons), Disco (fast animation followed by Rainbow) and Party (Fast animation followed by River of Colors).

The light would be controlled through a standard light switch or your pool control system. Flipping your light switch on and off relatively quickly will cycle the light to the next color or next light show. There are 16 modes, 7 modes are fixed colors and 9 modes are rotating color shows.

Can the light be changed without draining the pool?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/7/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes you can replace the bulb in your pool light with this LED bulb without needing to drain your pool water. You will first need to turn off power to the pool light at your breaker then go to the pool light and remove the pilot screw which is located on the face ring of your light. Once the pilot screw is removed this will allow you to bring your entire light fixture up on to your pool deck where you can then replace the bulb. The replacing of the bulb is as simple as unscrewing the old bulb and screwing in the new bulb. I would also suggest replacing your lights lens gasket when replacing the bulb, the two most popular would be the Hayward Astrolite Lens Gasket and the Pentair Amerlite Lens Gasket. We also have a great Video on How to Replace a Swimming Pool Light Bulb which will walk you through the process.
