I just replaced the run capacitor on my Pentair whisperflo pump (model 177474) - Motor part 011579 (WF-3) (purchased from inyo) but unfortunately the pump still hums but doesn't draw any water through. Am I now looking at having to replace the motor or would you make any other suggestions first. If the motor needs replacing, is this model the correct replacement for my pump. Photo of motor specifications attached. Thanks, Greg.

I have an old B847 motor and received a new B2847 motor. The gasket wont slide down on the shaft like the B847. There appears to be some sort of metal piece over the shaft at base where it goes into motor.
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/22/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

The shaft seals have the tendency to come apart leaving the metal collar on the shaft of the impeller which will need to be removed. If you click here you can view one of our guides on removing that.

Pretty sure this is the correct replacement motor - my current motor shows a part #: 7-177079-04. Other than this motor are there any energy efficient motors that would also work as a replacement?

Hi John, The A.O. Smith 3/4 HP EE Full Rate Motor (B661) will be slight more energy efficient than it's standard replacement.

I have a Pentair Whisper flow WF-24, what is the proper replacement motor and shaft seal kit for it?

Hi Rob, The A.O. Smith 1 HP, 56Y Frame, Up-Rate Motor (B2853) and Pentair/Purex Whisperflo Tune Up Kit (GOKIT32) would be the correct motor and seal kit for the Pentair Whisperflo WF-24 Pump.

I have a Pentair clean and the motor doesn't work. On the tag or decal of the motor it has model "LA0IN"; the motor details are 3/4HP, 3450 rpm, 230/115 volt, S56CX frame, type CX, Service Factor 1.5 continuous duty, ENCL D.P. Which motor is the correct replacement? Thank you!!!!

Hi Rich, The correct replacement motor would be the 3/4 HP Thrd Motor (B668) for the Pentair Booster Pump model LA01N. You would also need to replace the PSR1000 Shaft Seal and the Volute O-ring.

I have a pent air challenger with a p/n of 7-168452-04. Sticker on motor says it is a 1hp motor. The equivalent I see here shows a 3/4 hp motor?? What other seals etc will I need to swap out motor?

Shannon- The motor model you provided will be replaced by either 3/4 HP Standard Motor - Full Rate (B847, B2847)  or A.O. Smith 1 HP, 56Y Frame, Up-Rate Motor (B2853) would have the same total hp. You can either go with the GOKIT5 which has the o-rings and the shaft seal or you can just get the the shaft seal which is part # 354545s.

Hello Erin, this motor does have a capacitor; that "hump" on the back is where it is housed.

I have a Pentair Whisperflo WFE-3 3/4 horsepower. Which motor is a correct replacement, B2847 or B2661? Thank you.

A  Answered on 6/19/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Dennis R.

Hi Kurt,  B2847 is the standard Full rated 3/4 HP motor: B2661 is the Energy Efficient [EE] Full rated 3/4 HP motor - uses 20% less amperage which equates to 20% less in operational costs.

I have an Pentair Intelliflo VF so what parts would I have to swap out(Impeller, diffuser, kit,) to do a motor replacement with this one please? Also, what is the impeller screw I need for this and is it the same size as the Intelliflo impeller screw? Thx.

You would need to replace the Diffuser Assy. 3/4 - 2 1/2 Hp (072927)Impeller 3/4 Hp Full 1 Hp Up (073127), you can reuse the same Set Screw (071652)  and get a Pentair/Purex Whisperflo Tune Up Kit (GOKIT32) to use with the 3/4 HP Standard-Full Rate Motor.

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/16/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

I'm trying to replace the motor on my pool pump but all these numbers and abbreviations on the motor label are really confusing me. What do they mean?

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.
