When it comes to replacing your motor Inyo has you covered. We have created a ton of resources to make this project a snap, like our Video on How to Replace a Pool Motor. This video walks you through all the steps to replace your motor. Most of our customers decide to tackle this project on their own, and by following our video they complete the project in about an hour.
When replacing your motor we highly recommend a tune up kit which includes all the seals and gaskets for your pump. Many times when you use your old seals you may have leaking. Seal leakage is one item which will void the motor's warranty so make sure to protect your investment with a tune-up kit. Below we have listed the tune up kits for some of the most popular pool pumps.
Don't Forget Your Tune Up Kit

My motor recently started running quite a bit louder than normal. It's a Century Model #193985XCN/Jandy Pro Series. I think this is the proper replacement pump (this one or or the AO B2853). I also think you would recommend the Jandy Shaft Seal (Jandy Part #5020-087) but just want to make sure I am looking at all of this correctly. Thanks for your help! Kevin
I have a A.O. Smith Century B2853 1HP 115/230V Square Flange Up-Rate Pool Motor PHK2RA6E, that starts to be very noisy, does your PL2853 will be a direct fit if I purchase it? also, what tuning kit will fit the PL2853? Is the Amp difference between B2853 (SF 6.6/13.2) & PL2853 (5.4/11.4) will cause malfunctioning?
I need to replace my pool pump motor. It is 2 speeds ,but i never use the low speed. It is a Sta Rite Supermax Pump #PHK2RAY 6E 102L 1hp AO Smith motor230V RPMs 1725/3450 Square Frame. Can u give me a replacement motor .Possibly Purline PL2853. Will that motor work?
What is the difference between the Pureline PL2853 (139.99) & the AO Smith B2853 (157.99) motors? I see one has a 2 yr warranty vs 1 yr on the other and there is a difference in amps. What does a lower amp rating, PL is 5.7/11.4 and the AOS is 6.6/13.2, mean in regards to operation of the motor?
Essentially they are the same motor style, the B2853 but made by two different manufacturers. The lower amp rating means it costs less to operate.
I have a .75 HP Pentair Whisperflow pump that is dying. I've never been satisfied with the suction on the skimmer furthest away from the pump and would like to replace my .75HP motor with a 1 HP motor. Besides having to upgrade the impeller would the rest of the pump housing be compatible?
Current motor: 071313 Current Empeller: 073127
Hi Chris, Since your current motor is a Full Rated 3/4 HP which has the same True HP as a 1 HP Uprated motor, this would mean you need to upgrade to a 1.5 HP Up-Rated Motor to see an increase in power for your pump. This would mean you would require the PL2854 1.5 HP Up Rated Replacement Motor and this 1.5 HP Up Rated / 1 HP Full Rated Whisper Flo Impeller and this Whisperflo Seal Kit. This would be all you need to upgrade the HP. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Hi John, That part # is not pulling up in our system. Could you click the reply link below and supply the information from the motor label like... HP, Amps, Frame, SF, Volts, RPM, etc.. Also if you could let us know the make and model of the pump common names are Hayward Super Pump, Power Flo, Matrix, Max Flo, Tri-Star, etc.. Or if you want to send us a few photos they are always helpful, one close up photo of the motor label and a second wider shot showing the complete pump including where the pipes go in and out of the pump. To supply the photos simply click on the reply link below.

trying to replace marathon inground pool motor model #5kc38sn6084 amp 50,cat#c1245 rpm 345,sf125,hz60,se#109j2,v115/230,code m,thank you tony
Searching for replacement motor and seal for in-ground pool.
Original motor. Hayward. SP2800X Series - Max-Flo 1hp. Model SP2807X10. Motor SPX1607Z1M.
Current motor. 1 HP GI Maraton Motor and 201 Seal.
Alan, the PL2853 will not work as a replacement for your SPX1607Z1M. The PL2853 is a square flange motor your SPX1607Z1M is a round flange. Yor replacement for the SPX1607Z1M, would be the A.O. Smith 1 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - UST1102. The shaft seal for your SP2807X10 pump would be the Pump Shaft Seal 3/4", Generic - PS-201.
I am ordering this pump but need a new compression elbow for the wiring. Can you tell me if you have an elbow that will fit this and 1/2 flexible conduit.
Hi, Melinda. We do not carry those conduit elbows. You can purchase one at your local hardware store.
I need to replace the motor on my Pentair Superflo. Would this motor work as a replacement?
Hi John, This is the proper motor for a Pentair Superflo but we would need to get a photo of your motor label to make sure that you are getting the proper HP. To send a photo simply click on the reply link below to upload your photo(s).
My motor is humming and won’t kick on. It’s 7 years old so needs to be replaced. What motor do you recommend? Thanks!
Hi Tony, Yes this PL2853 motor would be the proper replacement motor for your motor in the picture. When replacing your motor we would also suggest a Tune-Up Kit but to be able to suggest the proper Tune-Up Kit we would need a photograph your entire pump, a wide shot showing where the plumbing goes in and out of the pump. To send us photos simply click on the reply link below and upload your photos.
Here is the full pump
Thanks so much! So I don’t need to buy a new pump and all that? This other company is trying to tell me I need the whole thing. I’m just going to buy the motor and the tune up parts. Don’t see need to buy whole pump and motor.
Hi Tony, No you don't need the complete pump. The humming is a bad capacitor in the motor and a motor replacement with Tune Up Kit will get you back up and running. Here is a Video on How to Replace a Pool Motor which should be helpful when you tackle this project. The only side note is that if you live in California you will need a variable speed motor if you live any other state than this single speed motor will be fine.
Why would you need to change to 115 volt
Hi Barry, You would have no need to change to 115V this motor just has the option to wire 115V or 230V based on whichever power is available to you at the equipment site.
Can you tell me what motor and tune up kit I need to replace this motor on my Pentair whisperflo pool pump
Was looking at this pump to replace the one in attached picture but have no idea what brand pump I have. Stickers have faded too much. Can you tell from the picture so I can order the correct trim kit.?
Reply would not let me add photo
Hi Joe, Could you post one more photo of a close up photo of the silver model # label located at the top of the black round seal plate near the band clamp. The way you posted this picture will be fine. Also if you could supply the model information from that label in text format in your reply that would be very helpful. I think this should be the last piece of information we need to make the proper reccomendation.
I need to replace our old Marathon pump motor (model #5KC38SN6C84AX). I have attached a photo, but the tag is weathered. Also, what tune-up kit would be appropriate?
Hi Joe, Could you also supply a photo of a wide shot showing the entire pump including where the pipe goes in and out of the pump? Simply click the reply link on this page and upload the photos.
I have a Jandy FHPM 1.0 single speed pump working at 1.00x1.24=1.24 total motor HP. Will this motor mate up and work correctly? Thanks
Is this the correct replacement pump motor (see attached photo). Also, can you tell me what is the correct tune-up kit.
Hi Joe, Yes this is the correct replacement motor for the B2853 motor in your photo. Could you confirm the make and model of your pump so we can suggest the proper tune up kit? Common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Jandy Stealth, etc.. It looks like you may have a Whisperflo and if so the tune up kit is this Pentair Whisperflo Tune Up Kit.
Can you tell me if this motor will work as a replacement for attached pic?
You will actually need the PL2854 1.5 HP Up Rated Replacement Motor as you current motor is a 1 HP Full Rated Motor which is equivalent to a 1.5 HP Up Rated motor. To explain this it easiest to show the math which I will do so here 1 HP Full Rate x 1.65 Service Factor = 1.65 True HP. 1.5 HP Up Rate x 1.15 Service Factor = True HP of 1.65
Can you tell me if this motor will work as an a replacement for attached pic?
Need to replace polaris booster pump motor. It says: 3/4hp, 3450 rpm, 230/115 volts, sf 1.65, model # c55cxkrl-2079 & flange/frame 48y. Do you have one that will be an exact match, or an energy efficient model that will fit my current plumbing?
i have an aqua tools pump motor 1 hp that i need to replace part # AT2310210 i cant find one . is there a replacement for this
Hi, Jeff. This motor will not fit your pump model. If you can provide a picture of the motor label I will be able to locate the correct replacement motor.
Hi, my pentair whisperflo is working but making a screeching noise. I guess I have to replace the motor. Will this work to replace wfe-4 011513
OR is there at 1.5 HP motor that would be compatible? Thank you!
Will this motor work for a Sta-Rite Supermax, Pump model number PHK2RA6E-102L? It is a 1.0 hp / 1.25 SF motor with a square flange. The motor number is 196249. Thanks!
My motor hums but does not start. Any suggestions other than replacement? If I need to replace a Pentair model SF-n1-1a part #340038. What are the choices and what is the advantage of each? Thanks
Hi, Thomas. You will need to test the capacitor using our How to Test a Pool Pump Capacitor. If the capacitor fails, then it will need to be replaced. If it's okay, then you can check the windings using our How To Use a Multimeter to Test a Pool Pump Motor - Winding Resistance. Your options for replacing the motor is this PL2853 (standard), B2853 (standard) or B2661 (energy efficient). You will also need the Super Flo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT78.
By the way, my current pump motor is WFE 3, 3/4HP and service factor is 1.25. So which 3/4 HP motor fits my current one with a higher service factor ?my another concern is How to wire the motor with current wiring ? Thank you.
The 3/4 H.P Pool Motor Square Flange 56Y Up Rate (B852, B2852) and the 1 H.P Pool Motor Square Flange 56Y Up Rate - B853 are comparable motors. Please view our How To Understand True Pump Horsepower - Up Rated vs Full Rated guide. Please do not forget the Tune Up Kit Pentair/Purex Whisperflo Saltwater - GOKIT32SALT or the shaft seal when replacing the motor. The How To Wire A Pool Pump will walk you through the wiring.

I have a Whisperflow (WFE-4). The current motor PN is 011513. Is this the correct replacement motor?
Hi Greg, Your motor is a Full Rate 1 HP motor which is equivalent to a 1.5 HP up rate motor, so you would require the PL2854 Replacement 1.5 HP Up Rate Motor we would also suggest a Whisperflo Tune Up Kit when replacing your motor. Finally here is a Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.
Sf-n1-1a. Is this correct motor for pentair superflow. Model number196238

We will put your order on hold until we hear back from you on how you would like to proceed.
I need to replace my pool pump motor for my salt pool. Is PL2853 the correct one? I have a Pentair 7-177474-01, Frame 56Y, Hz 60, Amps 7.1/14.2, Phase 1, Volts 230/115, HP (just shows ----), SF (also shows ----). It is attached to a Whisperflo WF-24 part number 011772. And is the GOKIT32SALT the correct tune up kit? Thank you.
Yes, that motor and seal kit is the correct replacement parts.
Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.
Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.
What is Service Factor?
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

3) I used a ratchet to separate motor from the pump.
4) I used a hex key to separate the "flange" from the motor, that has an impeller.
5) I cleaned the gasket recess, lubricated it, and inserted the new gasket.
6) I cleaned up all of the impeller, housing, etc.
7) I attached the flange and impeller to the motor.

Finding the right pump eas easy! I emailed inyopools, gave them the motor number from the factory pentair motor, and they replied back in a couple hours with three different options. I chose one and it was delivered in about 5 days.
I ordered the bearing and seal kit with my motor for an extra $30. Overall I saved $200 from purchasing at my local pool store and an additional $130 saved by doing it myself.
Install was easy and straight forward. I followed the instructions on the YouTube video from inyopools on YouTube. The only issue i had was when re installing the the impeller it is necessary to hold the shaft still with a screwdriver or pair of pliers. The motor from inyopools had a small rubber plug covering the back of the shaft that appeared to be part of the metal plate covering the back of the motor. It took some searching and experimenting to discover it. It would have been handy to have some kind of diagram or instructions in the box for that reason.
