I have an AO Smith model B127 3/4 HP super pump motor and am looking to replace it because the bearings are going out and it's inefficient. I added solar heating panels and a salt generator 2 yrs ago and am thinking I should increase the HP. What would you recommend? Thank You

I'll need to know what model filter you have to know if it would be able to handle the increased flow rate of a higher horsepower motor. If you are needing more horsepower for your solar panels, then you would want to start there. Would hate to have you get a bigger motor and blow your filter out because it can't handle the flow rate. If you don't know what the model of your filter is, you can attach some pictures of the filter and I'll be able to identify it that way.

My current 3/4 hp motor is connected to a gear box to reduce the speed and drive a pool cover takeup. This is the second time this motor has failed due to the potted electronics package which reverses the rotation. Can I pull the run capacitor out of a new motor and use my own reversing relay? I'm a EE with 5 years in motor control design.

Good morning Townsend, It is possible but I would talk to someone with A.O smith. 1-800-262-6484. Let us know how it works out. Your question and design could possibly be beneficial to future motor designs and products.

I have a .75hp AOSmith UST 1072 motor and bot a Century UCT 1072. Besides the energy efficiency difference of the motors, what is the difference between a Century and AOSmith motor. The new motor looks reconditioned on the face of the plate where the shaft comes through.

Hi, A.O. Smith is now Century so there is no difference between the two motors.

What size breaker is needed
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/31/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S.

The motor uses eight amps on 115-volt and four amps per line on 220-volts. You would need enough room on a breaker to accommodate those amp totals.

I just replaced the shaft seal on my motor thinking (hoping) that was causing the awful noise the motor has been making recently. Unfortunately, that was not it (I guess it was the bearings). I'm not interested in going down the bearing replacement route, so will just buy this motor. Having just now replaced the seal, do I have to buy a new seal (again) for this one?

Hi Carl, yes this is the correct replacement motor for your motor model C48J2N131B1. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. Could you send us a few photos of your pump so we can suggest the proper seal kit? If so then please take a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation for your seal kit.
