Hi, Dustin. The motor could be drawing too many amps, volts, improper ventilation and or a damaged impeller can cause a motor to overheat. The Century UST1072 Motor is the direct replacement for the C48J2N131 motor.

Do you have the seal kit that goes with this motor>
Hello, I aplogize we would need the pump model number located on the housing on your unit.
If I order this pump today, when can I expect delivery?
Hello, depending on the order itself normal ground shipping is 3-5 business days, if it is a special order item it would depending on the item. This would be processed after the holiday weekend on Tuesday.
Do you have a motor that is 1 hp that will fit the specs of motor UST-1072. Would like to go to a 1 hp if possible. Thanks
The model UST1102 is the 1 hp version of this motor. Please keep in mind that if you want the full 1 hp to be utilized then you may need to change the impeller and diffuser. Also if the filter is not capable of the extra gallons per minute flow it can damage it.
Is this motor new or rebuilt
These motors are brand new.
Will this motor work as a replacement for my Hayward SUPER II PUMP (3/4 HP). The model is C48J2N131B3 SER 08113J2. Thx ;-)

I have a Hayward booster pump model 5060 with an AO Smith motor model c48j2n143bb 4 HP that I need to replace. Is the model UST2072 the correct replacement? What tune-up kit do I need?
The motor model numbers that you provided, unfortunately, do not cross reference on our site nor under a google search. But we do show the original replacement motor for the Hayward booster pump model 5060. It would be key number 11 on the parts diagram here. Lastly, we do not have a seal kit for that pump but would recommend to change the seals on keys 5 and 6.
will this pump fit on a Hayward SP2607X10 housing
The direct replacement is the A.O. Smith 1 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor - UST1102 It is recommended to replace the SHAFT SEAL 201 (GENERIC) - AS-1521 or the Tune Up Kit Hayward Super Pump - GOKIT3 any time replace the motor or impeller to prevent water damage. Hello- To determine what model motor will work on your pump we would need to know the model or part number from the motor or the model of your entire pump.
have a 3/4 hp super pump that will not turn on immediately when powered. It does hum some. it does start after about 45mins. I did take apart and checked impeller for debris. none found. Could the problem be the capacitor?
Good afternoon Andrew, It does sound like a capacitor issue you can type in the specs of your capacitor in our search bar and it will pull up a replacement.
I want this same mounting motor with more horsepower. What model # do I need for a 1 hp or a1.5hp
Hi, Larry. You can use the 1 HP - UST1102 or the 1.5HP - UST1152 as a replacement. However, you will first have to confirm if your system can handle the additional water flow and you will also have to change the impeller to match the motor's hp.
Thanks for your reply, Adam. We have a Hayward Century max flow C48J2N131B3 pump 3/4hp. Do you need any other information?
Evening Ed, The Tune Up Kit Hayward MaxFlo - GOKIT1 is what you need
i have a hayward pump, model #" c48j2n131b3, that seems to have burned it out. What do I need to replace it? Will a replacement motor fit in the exisiting housing?
Good morning Ed, I am showing replacement motor UST1072. I would recommend getting a gokit. Which is a kit that contains the correct o-rings and shaft seal you will need in the changing process. You will need to provide us with what type of pump you have in order to get the correct one. If you need help with this. Feel free to give us a call.
I installed this motor on my Hayward Super Pump to replace a .75 HP original motor. The water pressure is very LOW ... not even close to the original one. What is wrong?
If the original was a full rate motor instead of a up rate motor that could be the difference of almost 1/2 total horsepower. Also, did you replace the shaft seal when replacing the motor?
I have an Emerson Motor - SP1607Z1BERCA .99 THP, 0.75 FRHA 1.32 SF that has burned out. What would be the replacement motor for this?
Good morning John, What pump is this off of. Just wanted to confirm if it is round or square flange and what the frame size is.
We have a GE 5KC38PN252IAX 3/4hp 115v single phase. Which AO Smith pump replaces it?

Hayward super pump model. C48J2N131 Is that the same as C48J2N131B1
Good Afternoon, Kevin it is the same motor you can see alternates in the description.A.O. Smith Round Flange 3/4 HP Up Rate Motor - UST1072
I have a jacuzzi mangum force pool pump and need to replace the 3/4 hp motor. Is this a suitable replacement for what I have? My current Smith motor has a model # 7-184948-22.
According to the part number you provided, the replacement motor would be ST1102.
I also own a 3/4 HP Haywood Super Pump. Model C48J2N131B1. Motor making loud noise. Before I replace motor should I first try changing out the bearings?? Or how do you know you need to replace motor instead.?
Hi, If the motor is more than 3 years old then you're better off replacing the entire motor.
what are your replacement bearing part nos. for this unit
The part number is 5270-31.
I own a 3/4 HP Haywood Super Pump. Model C48J2N131B1. Would a UST1072 motor and Gokit 3 be the correct replacement. Thanks
Hello Gary,Yes the A.O. Smith Round Flange 3/4 HP Up Rate Motor - UST1072 and the Tune Up Kit Hayward Super Pump - GOKIT3 are the correct parts to replace for the 3/4HP Super Pump.
what is price for start and run capacitors for A O Smith UST 1072 motor for Hayward superpump? In stock?
There isn't a run capacitor replacement for that motor, but the start capacitor is part number 5270-09 and it's in stock.
Would this size motor be the one I needed if my booster pimp is 3/4 as well? Thanks
This motor is common to pool pumps, but the real question is what booster pump do you have. Here is a link to the Booster Pump Page. Once on the page listing you can identify your pump. Just below the pump picture is a replacement part link which will include the correct replacement motor.
When I purchase the UST1072 pump, do I need an electrician or a plumber to install it? Thank you Nancy-jo
Hi Nancy-jo, If you're unable to install it yourself then you will have to hire an electrician/pool professional to install it.
Hello, Currently have 1/2 hp model SP1600Z1M (S48H2N122B1). Running 1/2 HP at 120V and have had to replace the pump 2x in past 10 years. Thought I would up the waterfall pump to 3/4HP. Will this give me a better chance for a longer life? Don't want to change out anything other than the motor. Is this the correct 3/4HP replacement motor (i.e. to match up to the front of the pump)? Thanks
Hi Don, Unfortunately, increasing the hp of the pump will not ensure that the motor will last longer. The ST1052 is the correct replacement but if you want to increase the hp you can go with the UST1072, Impeller SPX2605C and the Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT.
I have a Hayward SP2610X15 Super Pump with ao smith motors c48j2n131b3. The motor is a square flange but it appears the round flange is now recommended. I'll appreciate knowing the replacement model and if I need anything else (I think I need the pump tune up kit and a shaft seal but I'm not certain) Thanks very much for your help.
Hi Howard, The mounting plate that the motor bolts to is square but the motor flange is considered round or C-Faced. The model number you provided SP2610X15 cross references to a UST1152 as the replacement motor but the motor number C48J2N131B3 is replacement by the UST1072 motor. So if the motor was downsized then you will need the UST1072 motor along with the Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT.
Hello, I noticed my pump is putting out 5v out of the case ground to my bonding network. Does this mean my pump is going bad?
Hi Jacek, From what I've gathered from various forums stray voltage is somewhat normal for household appliances. You may want to have an electrician or your power company check it out just to be safe.
how many days will it take to get my motor to Plymouth,Mass
Hi Tom, It can take 1-3 business days after the motor ships depending on which location it ships from.
I have an A.O. Smith motor that is going out. The tag says it's a K48K2N104. What would be the correct replacement motor for that? Do you carry that motor and how much is it. Thank you.

Hi Art I think the 1 HP PureLine Prime would be a great option for you.
Will this motor perform better wired at 220 or 110?
Torrey, For energy saving purposes, 220/230v will cost less to operate (lower amps).
Will this motor come set to run 110v or 220v?
The motor comes pre-set to run 230v. When you remove the back cover, you can switch the voltage to run 115v if needed.

I need a replacement motor for Hayward booster pump model 5060. The motor model is c48k2n143b4. Which model replaced this?
The replacement motor model that you need is a ST1072.
I have a A.O. Smith motor that is used as a well pump motor. I want to replace the motor and impellar because the bearings are making noise. It is a UST 1072, Mod. C48J2N131C1C, 3/4 HP ROT-CCWPE. What motor, impellar, seals and gasket kits would I need to replace the existing pump. Thanks for your help.
Hi John, This A.O. Smith Round Flange 3/4 HP Up Rate Motor (UST1072) will be the correct replacement motor, however in order to get you the correct impeller, seals and gasket we would need to know the model of the pump that the motor connects too. If you can provide the manufacture and model we can locate those parts for you.
I have an AO Smith SP1610Z2MC dual-speed motor and I would like to replace it with this motor. Is that possible? And what else would I need?
Hello- The correct replacement motor for your SP1610Z2MC would be the 5387x Motor 56j Thrd Full 2sp 1hp. It is also recommended that your purchase a replacement shaft seal or go kit. But we would need to know the model of your pump not just your motor.
Replacing 3/4 hp motor on Hayward super pump, the one that all the numbers match doesn't have the compactior on it,is it gonna work
Jerry- Over the years, designs and engineering on motors have changed. Not having a capacitor on top of the UST1072 A.O. Smith Round Flange 3/4 HP Up Rate Motor will not affect performance at all and will work on your super pump.
i have a haward rs750 pump 3/4 hp motor model # k48k2n104 and i need to replace the motor in the ust 1072 or the st 1072 the right one also what gasket kit will need thanks for the help
Hi Ben, The A.O. Smith 3/4 HP Full Rate Energy Efficient Motor (CT1072) will be the correct replacement motor however you could use the A.O. Smith 3/4 HP Full Rate Motor (ST1072). If you use the ST1072 it is cheaper but it will cost more to operate that the CT1072. The Hayward Super II Pump Tune Up Kit (GOKIT2) will also work with the RS Pumps.
If the motor hums but does not turn, is it possible that it is the capacitor that is at fault? It is a starting capacitor, correct?
here is a how to check to make sure the Capacitor (Start or Run) is faulty
I am replacing motor with UST1072 motor on my Hayward assy. SP2805X7. What gasket and seals kit do I need. Need part number and cost
I have model #C48J2N131B1, 115/230, 3/4HP, Ser #12911FM, FR 56J, RPM 3450,amps 11.0/5.5, SP1605Z1M - does the UST1072 replace this motor? Also, is the GOKIT3 all that I would need if I ordered the UST1072?
Hi Stephanie, Yes, the replacement for your motor (C48J2N131B1) is the UST1072. The tune up kit pertains to the make and model of your pump- not necessarily the motor. Gokit3 is for a Hayward Super Pump. If you can confirm you have a Hayward Super Pump, then yes, this is all you need to replace your motor.
is the UST1072 a self priming motor? I have one that has model #C48J2N131B1 that is Hayward Super Pump but it does say self priming on the pump. the above items all show on the pump I have now so would the UST1072 be a replacement for my pump?
Hi, The pump design is what can categorize the pump as self priming not the motor. The UST1072 would be the correct replacement motor for you model # C48J2N131B1 and will fit your Hayward Super Pump which is self priming.
How do I get the motor unhooked from the housing( Black Plastic)
MARK END FRAMES - Mark the end frames and shell with a magic marker so the motor can be reassembled in the original configuration.VIEW END BOLTS - The motor is held together end to end with four through bolts. The heads of these bolts are shown in the picture.REMOVE THROUGH BOLTS - Unscrew the four through bolts and pull them out.KNOCK OFF FRONT END BELL - Using a hammer, lightly tap off the front end bell to separate it from the motor's shell.PULL OUT ROTOR AND SHAFT ASSEMBLY - Pull the motor's rotor and shaft assembly out of the motor's shell.
My Hayward pool pump (model SP2605X7) currently has a 3/4 HP Century motor (B227SE; Frame M56J) attached to it. Please confirm that UST1072 is the correct replacement for this motor. But if that's not correct, please tell me which motor I should use. Thanks!
Jeff- The UST1072 A.O. Smith Round Flange 3/4 HP Up Rate Motor would be the correct replacement motor for your sp2605x7 hayward super pump.
I have replaced my .5 Hp motor with a .75 hp motor. It runs for about 10 minutes then overheats tripping the thermal breaker, I saw a tip to check the impeller size, should I have changed the impeller with the motor upgrade?
Hi Walt, Yes you would need to change the impeller to match the hp of the motor. If you can provide the manufacture and model of the pump you have I can get you the correct Impeller.
Will the 56 J Frame 3/4 HP Motor bolt up where a 56 C Frame motor was?
Hi Ed, The bolt pattern will be the same but the shaft on the 56C Framer motors are Keyed not threaded. It will not work with the pump that you have.
will AO Smith round flange 3/4 HP motor fit on Hayward pump
We would need the model, part or cat number of the motor and the model of the front plastic pump housing to confirm whether this motor would be compatible.
I've got a Hayward Super Pump, 3/4 horse. The motor is an AO Smith C48J2N131B1. Motor started for barely a second twice this morning and after that nothing. Pump impeller spins so the motor is not bound up....thinking capacitor? And beyond that question - if I opt to replace is this the correct motor?
Tom, Yes this is the correct replacement motor. I would also recommend the GOKIT3.
Wiring a new motor and when I removed the cover I found a white/black wire with a terminal loose, not connected to anything. Theother end goes to what I think is the thermal overload with a light blue wire. Where does this white/black wire terminate?
George, These "How To" guide may help you determine where that wire goes, How To Replace the Thermal Overload Protector on an AO Smith Motor and How To Wire A Pool Pump.
Hi, l need to replace an inground pool motor A. O. smith model c48l2n13451 which has the following specs. 1-1/2 HP, rpm 3450, volts 115/230, amps 18.6/9.3 Could you let me know which motor I need?
Hi Carlos, We do carry the motor for your pump and you would require the UST1152 1-1/2 HP Replacement Motor.
Will the AO Smith .75 HP motor with round flange replace an AO Smith 1.5 HP motor in my Hayward Super II Pump? The current pump is too large for the 75 cu ft filter.
Gene T, You can replace your current 1.5HP motor with this 3/4HP UST1072 motor. However you will also need to change your impeller to a 3/4HP Impeller for Hayward Super II Pump match the current HP and would recommend getting a Tune Up Kit.
Looking over the questions and answers below, there are two places where a replacement motor is said to be the UST1072 and a new shaft seal is recommended. However, the two shaft seal part numbers are different, yet they are supposedly for the same motor. Which is the correct shaft seal part number for the UST1072 3/4 HP pump?
ChrisP, That's because this motor can be used on several different pumps, but the shaft seals are unique to that specific pump housing. So in order to get you the specific shaft seal you need we will need to know the manufacturer and model of your pump housing. Pump xxamples would be Hayward Super Pump, Hayward Super II, Jacuzzi Magnum, Hayward Max- Flo, etc..
will this motor replace an A.O. Smith - M56J - 3/4 HP - 3450 RPM - 115/230v - SF1.00 - 1PH - 4.4/8.8 amps
Gary- Judging by the specs you provided, it does appear that the UST1072 is a suitable replacement for your motor.
We have this model motor on our in ground pool system and when we went to turn it on for the spring opening it will not start. It doesn't hum or make any noise like it wants to start . Can you give us any direction? We bought our house late in the summer last year and it was running fine then. after being shut down for the winter its not starting up now?
Hello Kimberlynn - It is not uncommon for a motor to seize up over the winter. It may need to be replaced. We have a troubleshooting manual. This may help diagnose the issue.
Hello, I have a Haywood super pump by AO Smith. The mod # is C48J2ZN131B1,,Ser #, 8H02, 3/4 hp. 115/230 v , amps 11 & 5.5, SF 1.0,, FR 56J PH 1. WHAT PUMP DO I NEED TO REPLACE IT WITH? Thanks
Mr. Brown, Based off the specs of your current motor, the replacement motor for your pump is a UST1072. The manufacturer recommends replacing your shaft seal whenever you replace your motor. The shaft seal for the Super Pump is part # SPX1600Z2
I need a motor replacement for a Hayward Max-flo II pump A.O. Smith Model# C48D32A04 Ser# 28309FM .75 hp. SP-2705-Z1m Will this motor fit? Thanks. Bruce.
Hello Bruce, That motor will not work. The reason is the motor for a Hayward Max-Flo 2 is a square flange and the motor you had selected was a round flange. This is the correct part number is SPX2705Z1M .
How many gallons per minute does this produce, I am running 1-1/2" pipe?
On a typical installation a 3/4 HP pump will output roughly 50 - 60 Gallons Per Minute (GPM)
I'm trying to replace the motor on my pool pump but all these numbers and abbreviations on the motor label are really confusing me. What do they mean?
Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.
I'm trying to find a replacement motor for my pool pump but my model number doesn't match what you have listed as the model number. My model number begins with a C48 and yours begins with an SP. Please help.
What we have listed on our chart pages is the pump model number. The model number you have will just identify the motor. If you look on the plastic housing on the pump there should be a sticker which will have the pump model number. You can usually find this by the discharge port on the pump. Once you locate it you can choose the correct replacement motor. Be certain to change the shaft seal and gaskets as needed. You can use our >How to guide if you need help.
Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.
Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.
What is Service Factor?
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.
1 to 2 hrs
Screwdriver, Nut Drivers, Socket Set, wire cutters and wire strippes
This was my first time installing a pool pump motor. What I did was remove and replace the motor and change out the old seals. When installing new seals I used the included seal lub. After installing motor I checked it out and looked for leaks. I took my time and was finished in a couple of hours. I did need to change out some house to motor electrical connections to get a better electrical contact, but all together it was a easy job.

(5 out of 5 stars) Excellent Pump Moter Replacement
Reviewed By: PoJo from Clarence, NY ()
Pros: Awesome fit - excellent replacement
Tip to get the impeller off the old pump moter: use a 7/16" open ended wrench - it slides in near the capacitor on the electrical side... rotate the impeller until the wrench slides into place at the end of the shaft and then one person holds the motor and the wrench while a 2nd person loosens the impeller off with bare hands by turning the impeller counter clock-wise.
