The line supplying my in-ground pool equipment was permanently tripped. Forcing the breaker in place, the pump motor buzzes but doesn't come on. The pump is Hayward 1.5hp super pump, with a Century motor c48l2n134b1. Should I just replace the motor or the whole pump? (it is only 2 years old). If the motor - the model you have is black, but my motor is gold. Also, your model # doesn't have a "b1" at the end. Thanks

A     Answered on 7/22/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alex V.

Igor, If the housing is still in good shape, you can replace the motor and seals. Century makes the Hayward motor. The gold color is Hayward's trademark color. The replacement motors can not be the same color. The only difference between the 2 motors is the color. The motor model number we have listed, is a partial one. There are many different variations on the model number. You should be able to find your exact model number in the alternate part numbers list.

My Hayward Super Pump model C48L2N134B3 SP-1610-Z1-MBK just died on me due to lack of maintenance by the previous owner. It looks a bit old and I am wondering if this motor would be able to fit where the current motor resides. My internet searches keep coming up with this particular pump and so I am looking into purchasing it as the replacement. Thanks for your help.

A     Answered on 6/25/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Yes, this is the replacement motor for your pump. You may also want to purchase either the standard seal kit GOKIT3 or the salt water seal kit(if you have a saltwater pool) being the GOKIT3SALT. These contain all of the seals and gaskets when changing the motor which is highly advised.

Just bought a new motor. I couldn't get the motor mount plate off the old pump so I bought a new one. I used all other old parts. Put it together. Its leaking. Not between the pump House n motor mount. Looks like between the shaft seal n motor mount. Where do I go wrong?

A     Answered on 6/25/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

A number of things may have gone wrong but most often it is due to a seal or gasket being, bad or dirty. Sometimes it is the condition of them over time and other times one could have somehow gotten compromised during installation. We would recommend inspecting all seals and gaskets. Inspect the housings and parts and go back over installation process.

I'm replacing a Hayward 1HP pump. Is it ok to upgrade to this pump? Will it make much difference?

A     Answered on 6/20/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Jamie. If your goal is to increase the water flow you'll need to replace the impeller of the pump. If you do not change the impeller and increase the motor the water flow will not increase. It will only make a difference if you change the pump's impeller.

?     Asked on 6/14/2017 by joe

I bought the 1hp version of this motor from you last year and now it stops running and is super hot in under 30 mins. Would the 1.5 hp version run better? The 1hp version even when new would always shut off constantly on hot days. Never had this issue with any previous pumps that were installed. 1 lasted 7 years.

A     Answered on 6/15/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Joe, you wouldn't happen to have the motor information from the motor you replaced? By chance you could have replaced a 1 HP full rate motor with a 1 HP uprate motor which would have overworked the new motor. I would suggest going with the 1.5 HP replacement as the motor will be under less stress and should last longer.

The pump is leaking. There is a rubber band type seal between the motor and pump housing. It's difficult to get seated properly and water started coming out down below. After talking with a friend in the business we followed his suggestion of applying silicone and it still leaks. The spring loaded ceramic seal provided for the original inner seal but wouldn't fit due to the i.d. of the metal ring. We used the original spring loaded ceramic seal (it has no metal ring). Suggestions? Thanks.

A     Answered on 5/29/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

I would recommend replacing all of the seals and gaskets and inspect the pump parts for any damage such as cracks or warping. In order to cross reference the correct seal kit for your pump you will need the front pump housing model name or number that the motor bolts to. If you cannot locate that information then you can send a few images of that housing to our support request page.

Hi, Bill. Based on the info provided the pump you have has a total hp of 1.5 due to the service factor of the motor. So you would not need to upgrade to a 1.5 hp motor. The next size up would be a 2 hp which would be the B796 Full Rate Motor. You would also need the following parts SPX3015C, SPX3005R and GOKIT2/GOKIT2SALT.

Smith 1 HP Full Rate Round Flange Motor - ST1102, but you can use the Century 1.5 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor (C48L2N134) Formerly A.O. Smith UST1152 as well. They have the same Total HP.

The UST1152 will fit the Super Pump and the Super 2. According to the model # though, that tells me it is a Super Pump not a Super 2. If you want to attach a picture of your complete pump I can make sure we are talking about the correct pump and then I can get you the correct seal kit to go with your motor.

The only seal that comes with it is the water slinger that is on the shaft of the motor. You would need to get a tune up kit if you wanted to seals and gaskets. It has not come with it because that motor goes to an abundance of different pumps. If you know the model of your pump, not the motor, I can help you identify the correct tune up kit to get.

A     Answered on 9/9/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

Unfortunately a template you are requesting does not exist as motors do not have valve positions. The motor is a part that is attached to the back of your pump. In front of the pump is a valve(s) that control the water drawn from the skimmer, main drain, vacuum port, etc. before it enters the pump. You can always send in pictures to uplaod@inyopools.com of your plumbing setup if you have specific questions. Keep in mind there are multiple different plumbing configurations for pools so photos will assist us in assisting you. Thank you!

That would be the correct replacement motor. As far as the shaft seal, if you have a saltwater pool you'll definitely want the shaft seal for saltwater pools. It more heavy duty and less corrosive. And we do have a motor cover that does add some protection from the elements.

Hi Jeff, You will first have to determine if you system can handle the additional water flow. Then you will replace the UST1102 with the UST1152 along with the Impeller SPX2610C and the Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT.

MOTOR SCREECHING, PROBABLY NEED A NEW BEARING, CENTURY MODEL NO. C48L2N134B3. PUMP ALSO HAS TROUBLE PRIMING WHAT ELSE DO I NEED. HAYWARD MODEL SP2610X15A

A     Answered on 6/20/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

That would be the correct replacement motor. As far as it not priming, it's probably not putting out enough power if it's going bad. When replacing the motor, make sure you replace the shaft seal as well. The part number for that is spx1600z2 and if it's a saltwater pool the part number is 5250-235.

I basically need everything from the impeller back to the motor if you look at the Hayward diagram.

A     Answered on 6/18/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Bill, yes this is the correct replacement motor for your Hayward C48L2N134B1 motor. This motor does come with the associated parts. We do carry all of these parts which can be viewed or purchased from our Hayward Super Pump Parts Page.

I need a new motor for a Hayward Super pump, since I run my pump most times just to run salt generator. Should I purchase a 2 speed motor to run salt generator and save on electric?

A     Answered on 6/17/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

This is going to depend on your foot of head and size of pool. Some salt systems require a minimum flow rate for it to generate chlorine.

I purchased the UST 1152 as a replacement for C48L2N134. After a week of use, the Impeller broke. Is the Impeller SPX2610C compatible with the UST 1152? Should I also purchase the Hayward SPX1600Z2 Seal Assembly? Thanks.

A     Answered on 6/17/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

Hi Keith, The UST1152 Motor is compatible with the SPX2610C impeller. These are all parts of the Hayward Super Pump so you are a match there. I would absolutely recommend replacing the HAYWARD SHAFT SEAL whenever you change out the motor. You can also get the Tune Up Kit Hayward Super Pump which includes the shaft seal and all of the o-rings for the Super Pump.

I was told that a SF 1.3 was more energy efficient than an SF 1.0. Is that true?

A     Answered on 6/2/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alan M.

The SF (or service factor) when multiplied by the HP (or horsepower) will determine the true HP of your motor, but has no bearing on efficiency per say. For example, if you have a 1.5HP motor with a 1.0SF, you have a true 1.5HP motor. If you have a 1.5HP motor with a 1.1SF, you have a true 1.65 motor.

This will depend on whether you have a square or round flange, the total horse power of the two, and the diffuser/impeller models. You would need to gather the specific motor models and part numbers to confirm compatibility.

As a variable speed replacement motor you can use the ECM16CU. You would not need to replace any other parts such as the impeller and diffuser as long as they are still rated parts for the 1.5 hp uprated motor.

The SPX3015C is the impeller for the 1.5 hp full rate models manufactured after 1988 or the 2 hp uprate models manufactured between 1988-1989. The SPX3016C is the impeller for the 1.5 hp full rate models after 1990 or the 2 hp uprate models after 1990.

My Hayward Super Pump 1 1/2 hp just stopped working over the weekend. It was running and just stopped. Upon investigation the breaker was tripped, hoping it was just the storms that were in the area a reset it, unfortunately it tripped again almost immediately. I checked to see if the motor had seized up, I was able to turn it with my fingers, so it's not seized up. Any ideas? Capacitor? If you think it's the capacitor do you sell that? I didn't see it listed on the part break down.

A     Answered on 6/23/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Dennis R.

Scott - It may well be the start capacitor especially if you can hear it humming while it is attempting to start. Or it may have failed all together. The start capacitor for the UST1152 motor is 5270-14.  Please note that capacitors store an electric charge and should be handled with the utmost caution and care. A     Answered on 5/27/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Doug, Your Emerson EB796 motor is a 1-1/2 HP Full Rate Motor which is equivalent to the Up Rated 2 HP UST1202 Motor so you would need the UST1202 2 HP motor. The part # of SP2615X20 indicates that your pump is a 2 HP uprated pump so at some point your motor must have been replaced with a 1-1/2 HP full rate motor which is not a big deal since it is the exact same as a 2 HP uprate motor. For your motor replacement I would suggest the Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit which includes all the seals and gaskets for your pump. I would also suggest the 2 HP Up Rated Hayward Super Pump Impeller. The ordering of the Motor, Tune Up Kit and Impeller should get you all squared away.

Hello Tom - Model number UCT1152 is the energy efficient version of the UST1152.

When you buy a motor do you get new seals?

A     Answered on 5/6/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

Hello Wally - The seals are not included with the motor. The reason for this is that the motor is used on several pumps and each pump takes different seals. You can go to our Pool Pump Parts page to find the correct seals.

Phillip, The correct replacement motor for your Hayward Super Pump would be the UST1152Tune Up Kit Hayward Super Pump

I installed a new 1 1/2 hp pump over the weekend. Yesterday evening the pump stopped pumping water but the motor was still running just fine. I believe the impeller must have fallen off. Is there a tightening spec for how tight to screw on the impeller?

A     Answered on 5/4/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alex V.

Steven, The impeller is threaded onto the shaft. The impeller should be threaded on hand tight. Overtightening will cause damage to the motor and impeller.

I currently have the following motor--- Catalog Number: EUST1152 Model: C055KMC5013013J is the supper pump compatible? do you also have the seal kit.(tune up kit}

A     Answered on 4/26/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Tim, Yes this would be the direct replacement for the EUST1152. We do carry the seals but we would need to know the model of your pump to let you know which seal you need. The most popular pump that this motor goes onto is the Hayward Super Pump.

I see that this is the replacement motor for my C48L2N134B1. Now, I just read an entry where a gent asked if the replace motor came with a replace "seal" and the answer was "no". For my motor, does you replace come with one or is a seal even necessary, I don't know? Is it highly recommended? Or is it a Must. And if not included in your Motor, and needed, the Part # and do you carry, is it in stock, and your price? Thanks!

A     Answered on 4/21/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Seals do not come with any replacement motors. Replacing the shaft seal is highly recommended. Lastly we would need the model of the rest of the front plastic model of the pump that the motor mounts to in order to locate the part number and price of the seal.

Is a new pump seal included with the motor?

A     Answered on 3/16/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Hello Mike! No there is not pump seal included with the motor. You would have to look up which pump your UST1152  motor connects to so that you can find out the shaft seal

?     Asked on 2/26/2015 by Mike

My pump was leaking so I replaced all the seals but it still leaks. The shaft was pitted from the corrosion would that be the cause of the continued leaking? If it is then does the motor have to be replaced?

A     Answered on 2/27/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

MIke - A severely pitted shaft could cause the motor to leak. If it's not the seals or seal plate, it could be the damaged motor shaft.

Will this pump be the replacement for a C48L2N134B3? I see it listed below but want to make sure. If so what is the deal with the different numbers?

A     Answered on 2/16/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Yes that is correct. This motor UST1152 is the replacement for the C48L2N134B3 you had mentioned.

My current motor is a 1.5 hp model K48m2n123. Can I use this(C48L2N134) or do I need to replace it with UST1202. Also do I need any additional parts?

A     Answered on 1/5/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

Hello Joe - You would not want to use the C48L2N134. Your current impeller is too heavy for the C48L2N134. The UST1202 would be the correct replacement motor. We would recommend replacing the shaft seal and o-rings. The UST1202 is used on several pumps. You will need to determine the make and model of your pump. Once you have determined the make and model you can find the replacement parts on our Pump Parts page.

A     Answered on 10/29/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

Yes, the UST1152 would be the correct 1.5HP motor for the Super Pump. If you upgrade the motor, you will need to upgrade the impeller. Part number SPX2610C (5110-10DA) would be the correct impeller for the 1.5HP Super Pump.

A     Answered on 7/27/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

I would sugget this Ao Smith / Century brand motor here which is a direct replacement for the Emerson EUST1152 motor.

Will the AO Smith UCT1152 cost less to run than the UST1152?

A     Answered on 5/1/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes, the UCT1152 will cost less to operate compared to the standard UST1152. Depending on how the motor is cared for, it should last several years. When replacing the motor, I would recommend buying a tune up kit based on your pump model and age.

I have a Hayward Supper II single speed 1 1/2 HP pump. What do I need to consider to replace the single speed motor with a dual speed motor?

A     Answered on 5/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Check the SF on the old and new motor. The product of the SF and HP has to match. If your old motor has a SF of 1.0, its actual HP is 1.5 (1.5 HP x 1.0 SF). If that's true you should replace it with 1 HP dual speed motor (STS1102). With a SF of 1.5, its actual HP is 1.5 (1.0 HP x 1.5 SF). Also be aware that you will have to buy a hi/lo switch. It is not provided with the motor.

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

I'm trying to find a replacement motor for my pool pump but my model number doesn't match what you have listed as the model number. My model number begins with a C48 and yours begins with an SP. Please help.

A     Answered on 1/18/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

What we have listed on our chart pages is the pump model number. The model number you have will just identify the motor. If you look on the plastic housing on the pump there should be a sticker which will have the pump model number. You can usually find this by the discharge port on the pump. Once you locate it you can choose the correct replacement motor. Be certain to change the shaft seal and gaskets as needed. You can use our >How to guide if you need help.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?

A     Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?

A     Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

What is Service Factor?

A     Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Squealing motor

Easy direct replacement to the Hayward Super pump. Local pool shop wanted almost 2x the cost of the motor as INYO pools. Online instructions were great, and the follow up emails on how to install the motor made this really easy.

I have replaced the motor before, but it has been over 5 years, so the refresher course/tutorial that was available was very much appreciated.

At first, I did not know how to take the company name, and decided to give them a shot. I am glad I did. I have since purchased additional parts and accessories from this company.

Replacement of the pump motor

I removed the old motor, switched the impeller over to the new motor, replaced the seals, and reinstalled the new motor. The project was very easy, with the most important part being to shut off the power to the pool before disassembly.

Two old and failling Hayward Superpump motors Model SP-1610-Z1-M

Written on 7/19/2017 by Guest

I'm still a novice at pool maintenance.
This is my 3rd summer ever owning a home with a pool.
Opened ourselves with the help of a friend who works in the field.

I have 3 pumps, Main, Spa booster and Waterfall.
The main pump was replaced last year along with a new DE filter and a couple of actuators at a cost of $2000+ by a local company a week before a big party we had planned with 50 guests coming.
After that experience I was done being robbed
This year the Spa pump was right at the end of life (loud as hell) and waterfall pump tripped breaker or would just stop after 30 minutes of run time.
There was no way I was going to go back to the local company.
My friend would have charged me a nominal fee for his time but I figured I would give it a try on my own watching the video and following advice online.
The first pump was a learning curve but the second was a breeze.
The online help and customer service at InYoPools were super helpful.

I recommend also getting a Seal Assembly kit and replace with all new when replacing the motor.
Also which is not noted in the video or article to get a SLINGER FOR the MOTOR SHAFT.

I missed that and had to reopen the first motor and did not find out until I was halfway through the install of the second motor when checking other sites online.

AND be safe everyone. turn off your power to the system before opening anything.

Replace Pool Motor

Written on 1/22/2017 by Guest

I was fortunate by contacting Inyo and talking to Adam. He convinced me I could handle the replacement process and save some money. He spent time gathering the necessary information to get me the correct motor. He walked me thru the entire process and forwarded a video . I made a call back as I was unsure of the wiring . Once again Adam went over the correct setup. I am happy to report success. Because of people like Adam I will always call Inyo Pool. Your people are your most important Product!!!!!!!!

My old pool pump died

Written on 1/20/2017 by PATTIE S.

My Haywood pool pump had quite running. When I turned it on it would only hum. Through research I determined that it was needing replaced. I found Inyopool during my online searches. Their prices were the best I found. The replacement was easy. I did order the tuneup kit, as recommended on their site. It took less than 30 minutes to install the tuneup items, and the pump. I referred to the online videos that were provided to me by Inyopool.

For the project you will need a screwdriver, a wrench (to hold the shaft in place while you tighten the impeller), and a socket set.

1. Remove your old pump, and take off the plastic housing that goes from the pump to the filter basket.

2. Clean up the pieces you will be reusing (all the plastic pieces)

3. Replace your shaft seal parts, be sure to lube the areas shown in the video

4. Now you can attach all the plastic parts onto your new pump.

5. Tighten the 4 bolts being sure to tighten each snug, before tightening all.

6. Attach your power wires, and your ground wires, put the back cover on and turn your breakers back on.

7. Final step is to refill the filter basket with water, once it is full, your new pump will be ready to roll.

Biggest recommendation is to watch the Inyopool videos. I am a female, and I was able to complete this without any problem, thanks to their step by step videos.

Motor Failure

Written on 1/7/2017 by Guest

The motor was removed from the pump housing and inspected. It had locked up due to moisture from a leaking housing. A new motor and seal kit was ordered for replacement, delivery was made in 2-3 days and the repair was completed using instructional videos on the INYO website. This was my first attempt at a pump repair and everything went smoothly. Thanks to INYO for the quick delivery of parts and detailed instructions on the repair!
