I own a Hayward Super Pump SP2610X15. Can I fit a dual 2.0 hp motor onto my pump? If so please leave me a link to purchase...
 Reply

A  Answered on 9/16/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

Yes, you could put a 2HP 2-speed motor on your Hayward Super Pump. The 2HP 2-speed motor is model STS1202. You can use your existing 1.5HP impeller and diffuser. However, if you want to upgrade those parts to take full advantage of the increase in flow, you'd need the 2HP parts. The impeller would be part number 5110-10F and the diffuser would be part number 5110-09EA.

I have this motor and it won't start, just hums when turned on. My motor has a an external piece on the housing that I don't see in the picture. (see photo) One of the replies says this motor doesn't have a start capacitor, but the UCT1152 does have an external capacitor. Is that what I'm seeing on mine? If so could that be the issue causing the humming? This motor is just barely 2 years old. I really hope I don't have to replace it again. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

 Reply

A  Answered on 8/3/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi David, The UST1152 or the UCT1152 are not the correct replacement motors for the motor and pump in your photos. You would require this B2854 1.5 HP 56Y Replacement Motor Normally a humming sound indicates a bad capacitor. We have put together this guide which will show you How to Test for a Bad Capacitor if you do determine it is a bad capacitor then follow this guide here on How to Select the Proper Replacement Capacitor. If you do decide to replace the entire motor then you will need this Jandy PHPM Seal Kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Hi, We dont carry the exact variable speed motor which is on your Hayward Super Pump, but this Century 1.65 HP Variable Speed Motor would be a suitable replacement as long as you are not using an indoor automated control system like the Hayward Aqualogic, ProLogic or Jandy Aqua Link. You will also need this Haywad Super Pump Seal Kit when replacing your motor.

If the impeller or diffuser are severely worn, cracked or broken then yes I would recommend replacing these however, if not then they should be okay. The part number for that impeller is 5110-10DA, the diffuser is 5110-09A, the seal kit for a chlorine pool is GOKIT3 and for a saltwater pool is GOKIT3SALT

The six bolts you are referring to in the picture are for your pump housing's seal plate. If you compare the picture of the  UST1152 on this product page and the one on your pump, you can see the 4 bolt flanges on the end of the motor barrel that mounts to the seal plate.

A  Answered on 7/31/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Joe S.

Do you have information on the front half of your pump? The best place to find your pump model information is on the pump housing tag. Pool pump manufacturers label each housing with make and model information as well as serial numbers. The pump model number is the golden ticket to finding the proper tune up kit, so we will want to find that most of all. The tag is usually placed on the side of the strainer basket or near the discharge port for easy access. Model number formats vary depending on the manufacture but should be marked clearly.

Yes, you could upgrade to a higher horsepower, but that is not a guarantee it will fix your issue. You may be having a voltage issue that is causing premature failures of your motors. Did replace 1-1/2HP Century C48L2N134B1, which is SP1610Z1M, with UST1152 1-1/2HP up rated motor had big problem with shaft being too long; when first put together impeller was grinding against the entrance of diffuser and seal did not seat correctly, spring notcompressed enough, so there was a water leak through the bottom drain slot. I assume the Century UST1152 motor was put together incorrectly since it's supposed to be a clear replacement for the Sp1610; is that correct???

We do always suggest a Seal Kit when replacing a motor. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Hayward Super Pump, Hayward Super II, Hayward Max Flo, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. I just asked the other day about replacing my 1.5 hp pool motor, and you mentioned that I should also purchase a GoKit2salt. Although I do indeed have a salt water pool, the cost of the GoKit2salt is about twice the cost of the GoKit2, so I guess my question is: Do I need to purchase the GoKit2salt, or can I get by with the GoKit2. The pool pump housing is a Hayward Super Pump II.

Most commonly homeowners replace the seals and gaskets. For a chlorine swimming pool it would be the GOKIT2 and for a salt water swimming pool it would be the GOKIT2SALT.

The new motor came with a rubber thread protector on the shaft threads as well as a rubber washer/gasket on the shaft. I know the thread protector gets removed but was wondering if the rubber gasket/washer stays on or comes off before installation.

Those gaskets are referred to as slingers that sit on the shaft of the motor against the face of it, and do not need to be removed.

Hi, Bruce. The next size up will be the UST1202. To achieve an increase in water flow, you will also have to replace the impeller and the diffuser and or other parts depending on the type of pump you have. It can cause filtration and other problems if your system cannot handle the increased water flow. You can use Inyo's How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground PoolHow To Size a Pool Filter and How To Measure Total Dynamic Head With Gauges guides to assist you in confirming if a 2 hp pump will meet and not exceed your pool needs.

I opened my pool and existing pump worked for 2 weeks, then started to constantly trip the breaker. Electrician said electrical sde was OK. I replaced the motor, and it runs for 20 minutes and shuts off....This time the GFI breaker doesn't trip. I can turn it back on after an hour or two, but again it shuts off in around 20 minutes. Is the reason a short in electrical wiring, a wrong setting on pump, a breaker switch? I replaced motor, had electrician and pool guy out and still can't resolve.

I have a Hayward Super II Pump with this motor. It's old and the motor is rusted out...could be 20 years or more! The past week the water flow has been steadily decreasing, and now flow starts out at 50% of what it used to be and drops more and more as it runs. I checked all my lines for air leaks and replaced the pump gaskets, and no matter what source in and water out valves I switch to it's still very slow. Could the motor old and tired, losing power as it runs and not keeping the RPMS up?

It is possible that the motor is having issues with RPM's but that doesn't happen too often. It is also possible there is a pump priming issue. Please view the results here to view a few how-to guides to try and assist in locating other options as to what may be causing your issue.

Igor, If the housing is still in good shape, you can replace the motor and seals. Century makes the Hayward motor. The gold color is Hayward's trademark color. The replacement motors can not be the same color. The only difference between the 2 motors is the color. The motor model number we have listed, is a partial one. There are many different variations on the model number. You should be able to find your exact model number in the alternate part numbers list.

Yes, this is the replacement motor for your pump. You may also want to purchase either the standard seal kit GOKIT3 or the salt water seal kit(if you have a saltwater pool) being the GOKIT3SALT. These contain all of the seals and gaskets when changing the motor which is highly advised.

 Reply

A  Answered on 6/25/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

A number of things may have gone wrong but most often it is due to a seal or gasket being, bad or dirty. Sometimes it is the condition of them over time and other times one could have somehow gotten compromised during installation. We would recommend inspecting all seals and gaskets. Inspect the housings and parts and go back over installation process.

Hi, Jamie. If your goal is to increase the water flow you'll need to replace the impeller of the pump. If you do not change the impeller and increase the motor the water flow will not increase. It will only make a difference if you change the pump's impeller.

I bought the 1hp version of this motor from you last year and now it stops running and is super hot in under 30 mins. Would the 1.5 hp version run better? The 1hp version even when new would always shut off constantly on hot days. Never had this issue with any previous pumps that were installed. 1 lasted 7 years.
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/15/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Joe, you wouldn't happen to have the motor information from the motor you replaced? By chance you could have replaced a 1 HP full rate motor with a 1 HP uprate motor which would have overworked the new motor. I would suggest going with the 1.5 HP replacement as the motor will be under less stress and should last longer.

The pump is leaking. There is a rubber band type seal between the motor and pump housing. It's difficult to get seated properly and water started coming out down below. After talking with a friend in the business we followed his suggestion of applying silicone and it still leaks. The spring loaded ceramic seal provided for the original inner seal but wouldn't fit due to the i.d. of the metal ring. We used the original spring loaded ceramic seal (it has no metal ring). Suggestions? Thanks.

I would recommend replacing all of the seals and gaskets and inspect the pump parts for any damage such as cracks or warping. In order to cross reference the correct seal kit for your pump you will need the front pump housing model name or number that the motor bolts to. If you cannot locate that information then you can send a few images of that housing to our support request page.

Hi, Bill. Based on the info provided the pump you have has a total hp of 1.5 due to the service factor of the motor. So you would not need to upgrade to a 1.5 hp motor. The next size up would be a 2 hp which would be the B796 Full Rate Motor. You would also need the following parts SPX3015C, SPX3005R and GOKIT2/GOKIT2SALT.

Smith 1 HP Full Rate Round Flange Motor - ST1102, but you can use the Century 1.5 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor (C48L2N134) Formerly A.O. Smith UST1152 as well. They have the same Total HP.

The only seal that comes with it is the water slinger that is on the shaft of the motor. You would need to get a tune up kit if you wanted to seals and gaskets. It has not come with it because that motor goes to an abundance of different pumps. If you know the model of your pump, not the motor, I can help you identify the correct tune up kit to get.
