Can you connect your pool pump electrical and Pool Pilot salt water controller directly to the HP50HA system so that all systems run on the HP50HA timer. The pump is 1 1/2 HP.

No, the timer on the HP50HA does not control a pool pump and salt water chlorinator.

Will the warranty be void if using in a saltwater pool? Everything I read it should accommodate a 21ft round by 54 inch deep pool. We are looking to extend our season do you think this would be sufficient?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/21/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Steven, This would be a great option for extending your season on a 21' round pool. The warranty would not be void on a saltwater pool as long as you keep your salt readings within normal range which would be in 3,000 - 4,000 PPM of salt. Sometimes you will see the warranty say the product is not intended for saltwater but they are talking of ocean water which has a much higher concentration of salt, normally 50,000 PPM or so.

The Hayward Heat Pro Heat Pump 50k BTU (HP50TA) is  more traditional unit, larger in size also as efficient as the HP50HA unit but does not have the ability to cool.

Hi Dave, If you have no gas then your two options are a heat pump or a purely electric heater. The purely electric heaters are not that popular as they are very expensive to operate. I would suggest a heat pump if you are just looking to extend your pool season by 1 month in the spring and 1 month in the fall as they are very economical to operate.

Can this really be that this unit is sold for above-ground pools, and one must build a platform over 52 inches high to install up in the air higher than the pool?? Or, is that for inground only, and we can install this on ground level by the pool pump?

Hi Steve, Ideally you would use the Hayward 95,000 BTU Heat Pump, for your size pool. You can use the 50,000 BTU but you will have to run it for much longer periods of time to bring up the pool temp. also in colder outside temperatures it may have trouble reaching your desired water temps.

Hi, JF. I would recommend troubleshooting the unit using the info in the HP50A & HP50HA Owners Manual or have a technician run a diagnostic to find out why your unit is not heating.

Yes , I dont have solar cover and my pool gets up to 86.

Im no expert, but my opinion is Yes. I have a 21ft round x 54 deep that is in full sun approximately 70% of the day. I maintain 86* easily. I have my unit on automatic and the other day, it was actually cooling my water. I thought that was incredible considering this time of year.

Hi. The E01 Codes means that the freon pressure is too high. That is caused by a blocked line.

Hi, Chris. Bad freon or lack of proper maintenance can cause this issue. This issue can not be done with out the proper tools and qualification, it will have to be done by a licensed HVAC Technician.

Our HP50A was installed last year and has worked great. All of a sudden it doesn't power up. The screen is blank and there is no light on the power switch. The breaker is shut. The problem is not the breaker. What could be wrong?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/27/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Roy. The problem could be the unit's PCB if the unit is getting power from the breaker. You will need to contact Hayward so that they can have a technician come out to diagnose the problem.

On page 4 of the manual it states inlet of the heater needs to be above the pool water level. All of my other equipment is on a slab and that is where I would propose to put the heater. I am hesitant to order it if I have to build a 52" riser for it to sit on. Can you advise if this is a soft or hard requirement or what the ramifications of putting it on a slab would be?

Hi, John G. Check the Clock and Timer Function settings. Also, a low ambient air temperature can allow the pump to run and not the heat pump.
